I tell you quicky I had a nightmare getting my home built Rickman Bonneville through an SVA here in Newcastle. The pedantic examiner wouldn’t accept it was a 1960 ish cafe racer and insisted it had to be treated as a new bike, with all the bells and whistles fitted. With regards to the noise test it nearly failed with road legal silencers fitted, because some prat in a car some distance away had his engine running. I sincerely hope you have better luck but be prepared for some hassle from those people, cos in my case he tried his damnest that it should go on a ‘Q’ plate, which I refused to accept. I jumped through all sorts of hoops eventually getting an age related plate and documentation. Absolute BEST of luck with your exceptional build, a credit to your skills.
Thanks for letting me know matey. To be fair, I don't really mind it going on a Q plate as it is a mish mash of bits from different bikes from different years, so it probably should be on a Q plate. It's more than everything has been built properly and the bike is safe to ride etc that I'm more concerned about. Thanks for watching matey 😁👍
I could watch milling machines and lathes operating for hours, very calming and therapeutic, probably not the same affect/effect for the poor sod operating them though. 👍
It's a pain when it doesn't go as planned, but like you say, it's very therapeutic 😁 I love machining stuff, especially when it all comes out on size. It's very satisfying 😁👍
Hi there, just wanted to say I love how informative you’re videos are and how you explain what you’re doing, I’m not very mechanically minded but watching previous videos of yours have helped me do bits on my 99 bandit so thanks. I often drive past your place wondering if your in there tinkering lol. Can’t wait to see the finished bike. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Me again Quikie when we tried get loud exhausts passed I made db killer with an end cap with the opening pointing at the ground not sure how much difference it made but it did help. Remember every db is more or less double the previous one. Well done on the weight not a bad out come at all.
It sounds better with the db killer in place as it's more mellow, but we need to see what the Dyno says. I need to monkey about with a few options and thankfully Simon has left the meter with me a few days to test it 😁👍
Sorry mate was going to add ,found when making side stand bracket that the stand go over centre when folded up ( not by much) . If the were left in the centre position a bump could cause it to snap down leading to much embarrassment and stains on ones underwear.
Yes matey, I know what you mean. The latest video shows the sidestand fitted and it goes past centre in both directions. It snaps into place quite nicely and firmly 😁👍
For the side stand switch can you not use a rear brake switch, so you can use a spring to turn it on when the stand is down and off when up. Then you can put it behind the frame and loose that box just a thought 👍👍 keep up the good work really enjoy your video's
That's the sort of thing I'm thinking of doing. I'm just looking at the different sorts of switches that are available. Thanks for chipping in matey 😁👍
Hey up dude when in took my bandit for the msva test I wrapped the db killers with exhaust wadding I think I had to wrap it 2 or 3 times but worked to get the db down then just removed it after
A 7 to 8 kg weight saving over stock is pretty good mate. I reckon your rear shock ßhoild cope with that plus rider nicely. I made my R1 stand from ally bar turned n' tapered down. Not much weight saving but does look nicer than bog standard steel. The R1 block is alloy anyway just bolted together with hoofing great steel bolts which I changed for titanium. No problems after 2yrs. I've spent a small fortune on titanium bolts n' fixings, brackets etc most of which are self made.
When u say biffed du mean in a recycle bin? Hope someone comes forward for those bits they’re all gd stuff doing a mint job mate r u gonna record all the engine build measuring etc I luv that stuff mate cheers
Hi mate, you've said ( on previous videos) you want to take it to the track when it's completed. What trackday are you thinking of doing? if you let us know, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to book the same trackday so we can see Asbo in action! ( as long as she passes the noise test).... I've had a standard k7 gsxr 750 kicked off Castle combe because she blew 112 dB at 3/4 Rev's...... dam noise tests!!!!
They're proper fussy with noise limits n stuff on trackdays now. I think I'm right in saying the limit is 102db for most places. I'll have to see how we get on but would love to put ASBO round a track 😁
The stock exhaust can is proper heavy for sure, but given the frame, forks, swingarm, rear wheel etc are all bigger, I was still quite surprised. I'm dead chuffed it's not a lardy bike though 😁👍
For the MSVA test a stainless end can/pipe will do you no favours as the SS is a hard surface and will resonate, noise after all is simply pressure waves/vibrations in the atmosphere. If you have access to a carbon fibre can, simply because the can material is flexible and resilient it will absorb a couple of decibels. Decibel measurement is not a linear scale it is a logarithmic scale so 105 decibels is not 6 % more than 99 decibels it is something approaching 5 times the pressure wave (level of sound)
@@QuickBikes ahh fair one, I was thinking you may be able to cut an angle in. You have awesome skills so I guarantee you will figure it out and continue making it awesome 👍👍
why are you putting it through a test and not just using the bikes original plate? yes, i know what works' been done but other than front n backend, theres not a lot to show it isnt a 600 bandit
You get point for keep stuff original like frame, wheels, engine, suspension etc and you need 8 points to keep the original plate without a test. I don't have 8 points as the only original stuff is the headstock and engine... Apart from that, i want an engineer's report done anyway to confirm it's all built properly as I don't see other folks doing that for homemade bikes (which I think is wrong). Good question matey, thank you 😁👍

3 dB is double I think.
@@mauricevandoeselaar OK how about +/- 1db is +/- 10% in sound volume and 115db is bad for your hearing ( got the test results to prove that).

I would just stick a load of wadding around the DB reducer on the day of the test&take it out after it's got it's certification..👍
I'm going to try it and see what it does 😁👍
Thank you matey 👍
Hey Quicky, your mate is back! You know the give away text geezer.Just thought you should know and tell peeps to ignore. All the best.
Aw brilliant...!! Thanks for letting me know dude 😁👍

I'm definitely giving that a go, thank you matey 😁👍

It's not bad is it...😁👍
I honestly thought it would be heavier given the beefier stuff I'm using, so it's a pleasant surprise 😁👍
For every decibel is 3 fold so each decibel is 3x as loud so a lot of work
I didn't know that... Thanks for chipping in matey 😁😊
Regarding fitting db, could you machine a lip on the end and use a circlip to keep it jn? Which would save a hole and look better when db is removed.
It's only 1.2mm tubing I think, so not a lot to play with, but it would look better 😁👍
When u say biffed du mean in a recycle bin? Hope someone comes forward for those bits they’re all gd stuff doing a mint job mate r u gonna record all the engine build measuring etc I luv that stuff mate cheers
Yes, everything will be captured as long as the phone is charged 😂🤣
All the bits are useable, they just need cleaning up etc 👍
It would be cool to use a "super trap" type of DB reducer...Cheap and easy!!!...Gives you the option of power and decibels....👍🗽🇺🇸
I'm still looking into options, but think we'll be running a stock can of some description for the test 😁👍
Hi there, don't know if this helps but the M.S.V.A test D.B test is done outside no walls around no interference so you should be OK. just a thought.
I need to play about testing a bit more I think 😁👍
Thank you matey 👍
@@QuickBikes Yea do it again out side in the open, you will easily get below 100db have fun
If you fitted Exhaust Baffle Silencer Packing Sheets around the DB killer would it deadedn the sound a tad more?
Probably I would think. I'm not sure how long it would last but it might work. 🤔

Who needs the switch, if you've been riding long enough you shouldn't forget it, if not, well, you'll soon learn.................................
Hehehe... I'm not sure if it's a requirement for the MSVA test, I need to check that actually 😁👍
Quicky was the noise meter set to “C weighting” as this is what they would be measuring at
I don't know matey, Simon was doing all that, but he's left the meter here for me to play around with 😁👍
👍
😁👍
standard bandit exhaust is where the weight loss is/was i reckon? sounds good though with your pipe! cheers. :)

I would have thought the weight would be less as stock exhaust weights as much as a small child lol.

Nice suprise though 😁👍

Sorry just finished the video, another thought could you not buy another dB killer cut it down then weld them together
The end of the can is curved, to there's not much room to fit one 😁👍

I made my own exhaust and put a dB killer in it . Terrible mate . Anything over 5k lost all power . Just wouldn't rev
That's the worry. It'll be interesting to see what the Dyno says is lost and where... 😁
