Donkeys are the most effective protection for sheep and cows from packs of dogs and coyotes. Not that they are protective of other livestock, but just that they tend to hate dogs and will attack them. Much more effective than stock guard dogs. A pack of dogs will attack a guard dog, but a donkey or two raising hell kicking and biting and making all sorts of racket scares the hell out of them. So if you see a field of cows or sheep with one or more donkeys there, now you know.
I dunno if I buy this. There's plenty of dog breeds bred specifically for herding. I'd bet the farm on the dogs I've seen herding & protecting the flock before an untrained donkey or anything else for that matter. History is also on my side with this position too.
@@ClickClack_Bam ln no way am I saying that many of the special breed dogs don’t do a wonderful job helping protect livestock. I’m talking from the ranchers perspective of effective bang for the buck. Most of the special breed dogs are expensive, donkeys are cheap, you can afford several. Some of the more dominant and most aggressive guard dogs will even chase wild dogs and coyotes beyond the property line, leaving livestock unprotected. Donkeys stay within the fence. You have to schedule feeding and caring for the dogs, donkeys you just leave in the field to eat the same stuff your livestock eats. Special breed dogs are trained to attack predators and to protect a flock. Donkeys don’t give a rats ass about the other livestock, they are just born with a near psychotic hatred of just about anything in the canine family. With pack mentality I have seen groups of dogs attack guard dogs, usually at their peril. But even though they win, not uncommon for the guard dogs not to get nicked up, sometimes needing treatment, which can be expensive. But just the sight of two or three donkeys charging a pack of dogs while they are making noise to raise the dead is enough to end many confrontations before they begin. I know when my dad had sheep, wild dogs were a horrible problem. When he put donkeys in the herd, the losses became extremely rare, and occasionally instead we would find dead dogs that had been kicked or trampled to death. If you’re protecting extremely expensive livestock and you can afford to buy and maintain several of the specialty heard dogs, go for it and good for you. But for the average farmer/ rancher where you do what you can with what you can afford, donkeys are an excellent choice.
God bless the innocent creatures of this earth. We don’t deserve to breath the same air as they given how we so callously waste the precious wonder we’ve been privileged with.
Often a donkey will be in with cows and calves to protect the calves from coyote and wild dogs when they are small. The donkey can kick sideways as well as backwards, unlike a horse and they are not threatening to cows.
@@wayneessar7489 My farmer friend always had another herd animal in with each other. They were less lonely. He put a sheep in with his horse and they hung out in the pasture.

I experienced that, when a donkey's glad to see you he let's you know.
An intelligent animal bored out of his mind, making the most of visitors.

Hope people still show affection to that sweet donkey
Wow this doney is super loud but he is so cute. He is saying don't leave so you can pet me please and feed me to. Adorable.
I wouldn't want to be stuck in a field with another species, no fun at all, a bit like visiting the in-laws over Christmas, painful.
I know it's like going to an nba basketball game
LMAO!!!

You got to love that donkey. A real connoisseur of what we all want in life...attention and respect.
Aaawwwww....poor baby is just lonely......someone give that noisy adorable critter some lovin .....right now🤗👍
My dog heard the donkey and was looking like wth is that..😆
What a sweet donkey. Donkeys are one of the most beautiful animals. Thank you for sharing.❤️
I know it's 9 years old, but I think the donkey has spoken for all of us, during this "plannedemic."
Isolation isn't a lot of fun.
This poor guy probably just wants someone to cuddle with and love him. Standing in a field is boring. Someone go play with him!!!!
Isn't that what we all want?
I’d rather stand in a field alone than interact with most people nowadays.
Wish I had that kind of welcome when I came home! So cute.
Omg... I've watched this a few times now.
For some reason, a smile just spreads across my face at 0:13
I challenged myself not to but I kept doing it
Darn you, adorable donkey!!!
He's running like he's about to snitch on the cows. Lol!
Snitches get carrots.
So adorable...you can just tell that he is smiling!
Ahhh, but for one special person be so elated to see me from afar and break into a run to speed the reunion between us!!
That's a donkey who not only welcomes the newcomer with reckless abandon, but calls out said visitor a "WELCOME to my pasture dear friend!! Mi grazing place, you grazing place!"

Cuteness overload.
such a cute little honker!
nice to see one so free and happy!
Well, that just put a smile on my face, thanks.
He's like "These cows are so fucking BORING!" Please talk to me."
My neighbor has a donkey and he's so funny, I like him. Sounds like a fog horn.

Humans would be leading a boring life, if he was the only animal on the earth, animals help make humans life more joyful
Yes. To look upon animals in friendship and with respect, is what makes a human being.
The 'he' part was kind of confusing, but I got your point

There used to be a donkey in a field that I'd pass while walking my dogs....he always came over to say 'hello', so I always took a spare carrot for him 🥰
It's horse dog!!!!! This is too cute!
Donkeys a re actually quite social, maybe he was lonely?
There are at least two other animals in that pen, I'm thinking the donky was itching for treats and scritches!!
Definitely
That was cool. I was a veterinary technician in my first tour in the Army and was surprised to learn that in the era between the wars the army had a huge number of horses and a whole lot of donkeys. I got to see a few army owned horses but no donkeys.
such a cute donkey, soon to be a chubby one if everyone goes to visit it with food. seriously tho, good joyfull vid when times are crap. lets learn from the happy donkey

He's got his tongue going. He is looking for food. Lol
“WAIT!!!! WAIT!!!! I WANT TO SAY HI BEFORE YOU GO!” ❤️ cute little one lol
I would have taken off running.... without reading the caption I would have thought it was mad and protecting it's territory
It is, lol
Cute guy. Donkeys love hugs. They can become seriously depressed without companionships and of course abuse. This is true about all life but donkeys seem to take the depression to a bit higher level. Really sad and unfortunate because of how they are treated worldwide. Mostly in the Middle East these days.
I love the girls laugh!! It sounds like he’s almost purring at the end!! 😃😃

Thing about humans: we have advanced hardware (pre-frontal cortex etc); and that advanced hardware can run all kinds of advanced or even just weird/mutated software.
