The most telling thing about Jimmy was that he was very in the moment hits which was ultimately his downfall… he probably signaled them while he was inside which is why the staging area wasn’t set up… (block the windows) and the fact both the men weren’t lying in wait was incredibly telling… this sloppiness is okay when he is dealing with someone who doesn’t know him but Karen has insider knowledge and played safe rather than sorry
@@mariolisa2832 Very in the moment hits…. So Jimmy didn’t plan her hit out like a well laid plan… when they wacked Marty in the car he literally signaled literally 10 seconds before they got into the car… Jimmy didn’t plan this hit out correctly hence why the goons were still setting up by the time she got around so it is very spontaneous and erratic which was his downfall
My guess is that Jimmy wasn't very good at planning hits in general, but most his crew members were dumb enough to fall for them. Or after so many of crew members had died, and Henry and Karen being involved in drug trafficking, they would have been on high alert at all times about possibly being whacked. Basically, Jimmy got sloppy and his mistakes caught up with him as the film went on, just like Henry, Tommy, and Karen.

I literally don't want something for nothing as I despise the free lunch (as everyone should). Just yesterday, I noticed someone giving away two high-quality protein powders for absolutely free, and I still asked to pay for them. She gave it to someone else for free though (guess he or she beat me to it) but whoever that person is, is a sure sucker and there's nothing respectable about getting something for free. Excellence and high quality are worth paying for. Always despise the free lunch or you'll end up despising yourself.

Smith and West 9th Streets. Smith and Wesson. Combined with the do not walk and one way, it could still be a reference to the paranoid state but i think it also relevant
People have pointed out a lot of the subtle hints about this scene; the van, the behavior of the men inside, the street signs, but no one seems to be mentioning the way Jimmy causally glanced behind him as she was walking down that way as if to make sure nobody was looking.
Why would Jimmy go through all that hassle of directing her into a building when he literally just had her alone with him prior? He could have killed her himself. Nah the plan was for Jimmy to kidnap her and use her to lure Henry out so he could kill both of them together…
Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner. She learnt from you Jimmy the gent.
I was never sure if it was a setup for a hit or scorsese messing with us, but after watching this scene again and seeing his pissed off body language at the end I have to say it was for sure.
This was a really boneheaded set up by Jimmy. Really? You think ANYONE, especially a woman, is going to walk into that darkened building with at least 2-3 slimeballs just standing there, waiting for her?
They were sloppy hitmen and still hadn't set up the hit properly, another ten seconds and she'd have probably seen no-one and walked in then they'd have pounced.
He hired lazy hitmen, made her feel suspicious when he didn’t walk with her to the shop but still stayed outside and pointed her in their direction. He didn’t count on her being dubious about the whole thing and luckily for her got out of there
He was under alot of stress, paranoid, other projects and drinking alot...easy to make a bone head move under those conditions (don't take this comment too seriously)

“He was very in the moment hits” wtf does that even mean?
@@mariolisa2832 Very in the moment hits…. So Jimmy didn’t plan her hit out like a well laid plan… when they wacked Marty in the car he literally signaled literally 10 seconds before they got into the car…
Jimmy didn’t plan this hit out correctly hence why the goons were still setting up by the time she got around so it is very spontaneous and erratic which was his downfall
My guess is that Jimmy wasn't very good at planning hits in general, but most his crew members were dumb enough to fall for them. Or after so many of crew members had died, and Henry and Karen being involved in drug trafficking, they would have been on high alert at all times about possibly being whacked. Basically, Jimmy got sloppy and his mistakes caught up with him as the film went on, just like Henry, Tommy, and Karen.
when they offer you something for nothing run like hell, they're using your own greed (your own dark heart) against you (who doesn't want sumpin for nuttin?). Never forget this.

1:25 The "ONE WAY" sign is pointing straight at the store. She's a smart woman.
I heard she was so shocked by this close call that she went into witness protection and later became a psychologist by the name of Dr. Melfi. Shows that's it's never too late for a fresh start.
Different characters. You must be confused.

Honestly feels like a rookie move to not walk with her…instead he chose the most ominous way to direct her down the corner
yeah true, if he had gone with her and introduced her to them she would have been more trusting and then they probably would have been successful
By separating himself he's not implicated.
This is the scariest scene of the film. You could feel the intense fear that she had.
“Block the window”
“Shh-shh”
“Juuust be quiet”
Not exactly the brightest hitmen
Such a great scene. Love the slo-mo of Karen’s head turn at 0:49.
Little shot of the crew in the window a 1:01 as well.
Legit one of the scariest scenes I've ever seen.
@0:55 the way Jimmy looks back to see if anyone is looking, told you he was expecting something to happen.
Also notice the blood stain on the disposed blanket. Hinting that It’s not the first hit in that area. The audience is shown it but it’s out of view of Karen. Adds a bit of suspense.
its also the look on his face that says it all. he looks so concerned, like someone with a plan, watching to see if it goes well
She was jus tryna get the papers get the papers 😂
Once Karen Told Jimmy “He Doesn’t Know I Came Down Here” That Was The Icing On The Cake. He Would’ve Been Able To Deny Even Seeing Her Or Knowing Her Whereabouts.
Why Is Every First Letter In Every Word Capitalized
One of the creepiest scenes ever, very well made! I've seen almost all the major horror movies out there and this scene right here creeps me out more than anything. The brilliance of good ol' Marty.
This is the scariest part of the movie
0:54 notice how Jimmy looks around the street to exclude witnesses 😀
This was so cruel... Jimmy was pure evil.
The Hills were smart. Whacking his whole Lufthansa crew is singed into their brains lol
I love that "subtle" scene when Karen was leaving there were 2 signs don't walk and a one way arrow pointing towards the room.
0:32 red flag, Big one
Looks like Four Seasons Total Landscaping.
Lorraine Bracco looked good in the whole movie especially this scene.
The dresses were so beautiful the guys wanted to make sure nobody saw it but her
Possibly the film’s most chilling scene that stays with you
What a ice cold scene.
You can hear the guys saying “if I have a gizzard and you have a gizzard whaddawegot?”
When Robert De Niro told her a little further down and then looked behind him to see if there was anyone around, that shit scared me as a kid lol
This scene was intended to trick the audience into thinking she was definitely going to get whacked then surprised and relieved that she didn't
so rare women get hurt in movies even back then especially the wife of the main
@@darthbigred22 do you really think that or are you being sarcastic
Notice and hear the Men when they spot her I think she was gonna get whacked.
@@darthbigred22 this is based on a true story. She didn't die in real life, so why would she die in the movie?
He did everything he could. But she's gone. And there wasn't nuthin' he could do about it. And that's it.
"See, your murderers come with smiles..."
this scene feels like its right out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Pure suspense and atmosphere suggesting potential murder.
He was clearly about to have her whacked...his frustrated response to her leaving is all the proof you need...when he says “no no no it’s in there! It’s in there” what he’s really saying is “goddamnit woman can you quit being so stubborn and just get in there so we can whack you!!!”
Who knows what else they would have done before killing her...fucking dark
@@kevinsager5054 It's my favorite scene in the movie...the two guys are in the shade, you can't see their faces but how they freeze when they see her...very menacing and predatory body language, the haze of cigar smoke surrounding them...extremely unsettling. Scorsese was going for a completely different color scheme here and the result is fucking beautiful.....between the violence and the wisecracks, scenes like this bring the balance back...it's at the right tempo, we're being led to down this path of "shit's about to go down, she's gonna get it" but Scorsese pulls the reigns back just in time....anyone seeing this for the first time will inevitably be on the edge of their seat......put it this way, if they'd shot an alternative to this where Jimmy responds by ordering those guys to run after her, the scene would be completely ruined and it'd look ridiculous
@@rampageclover9788 The size of these guys would make me scared already, but tension in this scene is great anyway!

She did an amazing job in this movie. One of the best female performances of all time.
The looking behind him after he sent her down the street said it all.

I love how old model cars make so much noise and don't go nowhere 😂

As the camera lifts up it goes past the signs "Don't Walk" and "One Way" pointing in the direction she would have gone .
Especially, after Karen turns her head forward after looking at Jimmy. As soon as Karen looks away Jimmy looks over his shoulder.
Some people think that Karen was not "intended" to be whacked in this scene. I think the majority think is was very clear that she was.
Why would Jimmy go through all that hassle of directing her into a building when he literally just had her alone with him prior? He could have killed her himself.
Nah the plan was for Jimmy to kidnap her and use her to lure Henry out so he could kill both of them together…

I was never sure if it was a setup for a hit or scorsese messing with us, but after watching this scene again and seeing his pissed off body language at the end I have to say it was for sure.
Both Karen and the audience felt the danger at the same time. Brilliant!
"block the window" is what confirms it for me.
@@friendlyenemy2314 She wasn’t getting whacked she would have been kidnapped to lure out Henry so Jimmy could kill both of them together…
Henry was the real danger to Jimmy not Karen
I find this scene hilarious, the way de niro points right there😂 damn, goodfellas is full of hilarious moments that are sad and scary at the same time
I don’t know why he chose to point and yell down the street like that. Who in their right mind would trust him when he’s acting like that
The one way sign as the camera pulls back gives it away that she was going to be kidnapped. As a plot to lure Henry. As well as the DONT WALK sign which makes me infer the saying “DONT WALK, RUN” which you do if a threat is imminent.
The one way street sign at the end of the scene says it all..
When DiNiro did the hard point into the alley it was straight wickedness.
