If you want to hear his voice: It was revenge for Billy Batts, and a lot of other things. And there was nothing that we could do about it. Batts was a made man, and Tommy wasn't. And we had to sit still and take it. It was among the Italians. It was real greaseball shit. They even shot Tommy in the face so his mother couldn't give him an open coffin at the funeral.
I always thought that his death was only because of the disapearance of Billy Bats. The last time Billy was seen was at the bar and he had a fight with Tommy and then he just disapears. For the bosses i would think that this is guilty enough to get whacked. The other two didn't get killed because they didn't participate in the argument at the bar, on the contrary, they tried to calm things down and that probably played a big role in their lack of suspicion.
Nah irl batts was killed weeks later, prolly by tommy. The problem w the gambinos getting revenge was that without a body they could never really know. Yet tommy just kept on killing gambino guys, which eventually it didn't matter if no bodies they wanted his head. Tho Jimmy Burke was also prolly looking to whack him out for the lufthansa heist, so it's hard to know
@@olstar18No Paulie was sleeping with Henry's wife and Tommy tried to get some. People think that was the final straw and why he let the Gambinos take him. He was suspected in killing 2 of their guys Batts and someone else
Instead presenting any sort of interesting speculation/insight, this turned into a great recap video. I forgot what happened in the movie, thanks for refreshing my memory
The rest of the story: Henry's witness protection moved him to Arlen, TX and he started going by "Hank". His wife's name was changed to Peggy. They had a son, Bobby. Feds set him up with a job selling propane and propane accessories.
He was a wild card and predictably unpredictable. His ego was so inflated he couldn’t control himself and killed anyone without thinking about consequences. That puts the whole business at risk. In my opinion it’s really quite simple. Not because he was “difficult to be around.” Plenty of egos are difficult to be around. He was just a huge liability and was better off dead for the sake of everybody.
@That V8 Life But Jimmy and Henry participated in the killing and didn't get hit. I heard the narrator's explanation and I think he was part right. But I took it that only Tommy got hit because there was no evidence against Jimmy and Henry. Henry, Jimmy and Billy were the only ones left in the bar when Tommy came back in and they killed Billy. Billy had been missing for a while and no one knew what had happened to him. Paulie even asked Henry if he knew anything about Billy missing and Henry of course said he didn't. But Billy had associates who were with him when his altercation with Tommy occurred and heard Tommy threaten Billy on his way out, and of course they talked, so the mob put 2 and 2 together knowing that was the last time anyone saw Billy. No one other than Tommy, Jimmy and Henry knew Billy was killed in the bar that night, so Tommy being the one they knew had motive where ever Billy happened to be killed was blamed for it,.
In one of the documentaries made about Henry Hill, he says that Tommy once killed a man just to show how crazy he was. No other reason, he wanted to prove a point. It was just a random killing.
@@MrRasnowman While conveniently acting like he never took part in any of the worst of it as he also seems to know too many details and laughs about women being brutalized til he realizes how phycho it looks and snapping back to the character he plays as the innocent guy along for the ride that just made a few mistakes and ran with the wrong crowd. It blows my mind how willing people are to take this guy's word for anything when he's a known liar and probably one of the slimiest of the bunch. A rat is never a good source, they've already shown they lack character. But they'll say anything to make it look like they had good reason to betray the people they called "friend" til things got thick.
Tommy got killed because he killed Billy Batts who was a member of The Gambino's and a "made" man. Killing a made man is a no no in the Mafia. The day Tommy was going to be made, it was a "ruse".
That exact moment when Tommy walks in the room is so intense. It's not even what happens immediately after he walks in, it's the 2 seconds of time he had to realize what was about to happen.
I've always thought that was a little too quick. There's not quite enough time for us to see the ultimate truth on Tommy's face before the "Oh n-" and the gunshot.
I saw this movie for my first time when I was 13. I had just watched The Godfather and thought it would be more or less the same and oh man was I wrong! Watching Tommy get shot like that freaked me out I can’t believe people actually live that way
I don’t agree with the idea that Jimmy and Henry’s involvement in the Bats murder was overlooked because they were good earners. My take on it is that the higher ups really didn’t know who was responsible for the Bats murder, but they assumed that Tommy was behind it because it was known that he had a beef with Bats, and everyone knew how much of a hot head he was. Being good earners may have earned Jimmy and Henry the benefit of the doubt, but that would not have helped them if there was no doubt to be given the benefit of. If the mob bosses had known for a fact that Henry and Jimmy were involved, they would have been whacked.
There was no 14th amendment in the Mob. Generally, if they thought you were involved. You were dead. Not a lot of people wanted to fuck with Jimmy the Gent though. He was just as nuts as Tommy. Look at how many bodies came out of the Lufthansa heist.
Yup. You don't kill a made man unless you have permission too. The two guys with Bats, celebrating with no doubt would have been questioned and told it kicked off with Tommy. And Bats going missing and no one not saying anthing the top guys put 2 and 2 together
Great point... unless Conway and henry were also part of some irish mobb .. henry lied, dealt drugs, lied to a made boss.. and helped bury a mobb boss..Bats was alive in the trunk..they all killed him.
From what I understand, Tommy had numerous transgressions on his resume that were inching him closer to being killed. Likely several straws that broke the camel's back
To me it's simple Jimmy and Henry didn't get whacked because they didn't try to be a "made guy " . Tommy made every effort to do it regardless of the consequences. One of the consequences were serious transgressions against an actual made guy that had won his bones. Only one outcome after that. The fact that they setup such a fake shows they wanted Tommy to know he fucked up instead of just whacking him on the sly.
@MaximusPennyweather I agree.. Jimmy wasn't ever gonna go down for Lufthansa or Billy Batts. Henry f**ked up when he got hooked on narcotics, otherwise he would have most likely stayed on. The Billy Batts thing I still need to read Wiseguys to know the extent of his involvement.
Interesting fact: the actor playing the government attorney who talks with Henry and Karen about witness protection was actually the prosecutor who worked with Henry Hill IRL and oversaw his testimony.
Paulie hated Tommy but loved Jimmy and Henry. And they both earned with both hands. Chances are that Paulie drove a hard bargain and gave up Tommy but said that was all he would give up.
Paulie did in fact give up Tommy, but the reasons are a little more devious. Paulie had been sleeping with Henry's wife, started when Henry and Jimmy went to jail in the early 70's. Tommy, the sociopath that he was, tried to rape Karen, who obviously told Paulie about it. Paulie gave up Desimone to the Gambino family some time after the Bats killing, with that knowledge in the back of his mind.
@@smellsuperb1 True, but Paulie always hated Tommy. The mafia does not want guys who are totally nuts like that, you can never tell if they will turn on you and they bring attention and trouble. So that helps justify it, but in the end it was about the money.
There was also talk that Tommy would eventually go after Pauline’s seat. He probably got popped just as much for that. And, as Liotta said, this was before Crazy Joe. While fictional, it’s a nice Easter Egg to see who orders his hit in the Irishman.
@@realazduffman it was more about his acts, of course money played a part. But when the Gambino family came to Paulie, he basically gave up Tommy so long as they left Jimmy alone. So basically it was a combination.
First time I saw this movie I felt so bad for Tommy’s mom when he was killed. She had like all of two minutes of screen time but she was so adorable she left a big impression!
The HUGE difference between the book and movie is Henry was dealing Heroin as well as coke, much less sympathetic and destructive, they cut out hills time in the Army trying to get out of the life, he was Airborne Ranger for the 82nd, and he discovered Army life and mob life was interchangeable. His one hustle was running a station wagon filled with cartons of cigarettes from North Carolina to NYC every weekend on pass from the Army.. good read highly recommended
If you ever read the book Wise Guy (what the movie is based off of), Tommy had a brother who was a rat. I believe Hill in the book says that’s why he was always going out of his way to be a tough guy, had to show them he wasn’t like his brother.
Which is why it’s ironic that when he kills spider he says “his whole family was full of rats, kid was gonna grow up to be a rat”. Of course no one was going to say anything to a pissed off Tommy with a gun though lol
In the book, it also said that Spider was a well-liked up and comer. So when Tommy killed him it was just another thing on the long list of crap that he’d done
He was killed by John Gotti, and he was seated, not standing. On the good side, He, and Jimmy both cried about killing Stacks. Tommy was ordered to kill Stacks, but they were much closer than the movie showed, and he put it off as long as possible. When Liotta's voice-over stated everyone loved Stacks, that was literally true!
He wasn't whacked by Gotti, that's another Henry Hill embellishment. Vario was told to get rid of DeSimone and he was killed by made guys within the family. Gotti wouldn't have even attended the fake ceremony because it was a lucchese thing and had nothing to do with the Gambinos. If he were, Tommy would have known right away and probably ran or been killed on the spot.
Some people get mad that some of these guys like Sammy the Bull are out of prison and have UA-cam channels where they talk about some of their crimes and why and how they got into this life, but I've really appreciated hearing their viewpoints and I think it might help keep some people from getting into the same situations.
Tommy DeSimone was very wreckless and hard to manage. He also was impulsive and killed a made man without it being approved. Thats a big no no. And he was part of the Lufthansa heist so it was a no brainer to get rid of him.
If the truth were known, Henry sold Tommy out to save his own skin. But he had no reason to tell us that for the movie. It wouldn't have helped sell the story. The Batts killing was June of 1970, the Lufthansa Heist was Dec. of 1978, and Tommy was killed one month later in Jan. of 1979. Henry was busted in May of 1980, more than a year and a half after Tommy bit the bullet. So there goes your theory that Henry's arrest saved him in Jan. of 79. The Mob wouldn't have waited a year and a half to make amends. Now, let's look at Henry. Henry was in the middle of the Lufthansa mess, and he was shaking like a leaf at all the killings that Tommy and Jimmy were pulling off at the time. Henry said, he (himself) had nothing to worry about, but we know he was torn up over the "bodies piling up all over." We see him voicing his concerns to Jimmy and Tommy at the very time Tommy was told he would "be made" (set up to die for Billy Batts). We later learn that Henry sold out his father figure (Paulie) to save his own hide. If Henry will sell out Paulie, he will sell out Tommy.
Knowing Tommy was seen killing Morty and Stacks, it could be seen as this: Tommy killed the others involved in the Luftansa heist that would implicate the mob on the crime. Henry and Tommy wouldn't rat, at the time, but also were good earners for the mob. Tommy got the orders to whack the selected fee until it went to him getting whacked. Why? He knew why he had to whack em. He knew he had to whack them. He's also a loose cannon looking to fuck over somebody, whether by a gun or by your pride alone. He was the last loose thread to the whole Luftansa case. He had to go by way of the business. Even if he was fingered on Batts' murder, Henry and Jimmy were as good as dead, even if they could roll the nickels and dimes. If they hear a made man was whacked without their blessing, they're gonna find anyone involved in their man's murder and disappearance and put them in a wooden coat. However, Tommy was just the last person involved in the whackings that tie into the heist. Just real greaseball shit.
I honestly always thought that Tommy got whacked because the argument they had, plus the fact that he had a reputation for impulsive killing, made it pretty obvious that he had to be the one responsible for Batt's disappearance. Jimmy and Henry kept their cool in front of Batt's and his people, which left room for doubt over whether they were involved. I could be completely off but that was always my theory.
@@calburge4338 I always figured all Paulie would have had to do was once he heard from 'Batts associates that he was last seen alive in the bar was to ask the bartender what happened. Of course Batts' friends are going to fill him in on what transpired between him and Tommy and even though Batts' crew didn't see Tommy as a threat because Batts was a made guy Paulie knew better because he knew Tommy more intimately and knew he was crazy. By all rights Paulie was supposed to give up Jimmy and probably Henry because he had to know that Jimmy must have some part in the killing because of the fact that he was there and because he could kinda' control Tommy since they were close. Paulie also knows that Henry isn't a killer but he just as well could have ended up being collateral damage since he was with Tommy so Paulies decision was simple as far as what to do. You give up the pain in the @ss who deserves to go anyway and eliminate future problems which keeps Batts crew happy, while you don't mention your top two earners because that would cost you your percentage of their future earnings .
Yep, I always thought in the movie that was it. "We" see tommy and henry complicit, but NO ONE ELSE DID. Everyone did see thought Tommy enraged and his history of violence made it clear it was him.
One of the ironies of Goodfellas: Michael Imperioli who played Spider also played Christopher (Tony Soprano's Nephew) on 'The Sopranos'. In one episode, Christopher gets ignored by a Donut shop employee. Christopher pulls a gun and has the employee fill a box with pastries and then, before leaving, he shoots the clerk in the foot. The Clerk lies on the floor writhing in pain and exclaims, "You shot me in the foot!" As he leaves, Christopher says, "Hey, it happens!"
@@zerodayappalachianminuteme3688 Pauly Walnuts (Paulie Gualtieri) played by Tony Siricio, is also in both. I probably watched Goodfellas 15 times before I realized it was him! The scene where they grab the postman and where Henry 'Broke his cherry'!
Paulie was a ruthless douche… most were falsely portrayed in the film for Hollywood Except Tommy. The fact Pesci nailed a character that was a foot taller than him speaks volumes
It was pretty logical to suspect Tommy of Bats' disappearance, given the very public outburst at the homecoming party, but not necessarily Jimmy. He was seen to be more of a peacemaker and was also well trusted by the mob
In reality I'm sure they knew Henry and Jimmy could've likely been involved but the money was too good. If they whacked everyone who helped someone break the rules there would be no earners left. It's a sick disgusting life and people glamorize these movies but seem to forget how then end. Especially Nicky and his brother in Casino. No thanks. I'd rather be "poor" and happy than "rich" and dead. Imagine family members having to live with the reality of that.
What it really came down to was that Tommy didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete and everyone knew it. In the shinebox leagues, he was a decent enough player, but he had small hands. There's only so much you can do with a player that has small hands.
Tommy DeSimone also gunned down a random person in the street, all because he wanted to test a new gun. He was actually really big and scary, not small and loud like his depiction by Joe Pesci.
And it's actually the guys of little stature like Tommy that I find more annoying than physically larger guys with the same disposition. Kind of makes me feel less sorry for the little guy getting whacked because he deserved it more. That's just my take.
Jimmy made a lot of money from the Lufthansa heist, and is a regularly high earner, which speaks for itself no matter where you're from. Henry probably didn't do too bad even outside of his drug thing, but even then, considering the main case was the murder of a made man, it was probably a tough talk for Paulie who genuinely loves him like a father. Tommy was so explosive he was gonna go either way even if he earned well (which was never implied), batts was the perfect "excuse" to finally get rid of him.
no perfect excuses needed if a Sit Down came to nothing it would have been kicked upstairs to the Bosses it's a Rule & the Bosses would have ruled in favour of the DeSimone hit cos Batts was Made Tommy wasn't. plus Paulie gave him up to the Gambinos because Tommy Raped Karen Hill who at the time was having an affair with Paulie & apparently John Gotti took part in the hit as him & Batts were supposedly tight?
@@MrReese8732 Billy Batts got whacked for making sassing remarks about Tommy's shine box. Billy was recently released from the can (slang for jail) and he has a party a Henry's place called The Suite. Tommy had no idea he killed a "made" guy. Later on. Jimmy told Henry that Tommy was going to be "made". He had the smile of a Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland. Tommy later gets all pimped out for his big day. He rode in a 1978 Buick Park Avenue and gets "whacked".
@@frankdenardo8684 there was also another guy from Gotti's crew he killed. Ronald Jerothe. Fucked the guys sister, fucked up the guy's sister. Killed him after he started telling the street he was out to whack Tommy. So basically there was 2 friends of Gotti that got murdered by this guy.
No it was because the real tony montana lived a life the director felt didn't make the story tragic and dramatic the dude tony is based on trains tigers now.
Henry and Jimmy were huge earners, especially Jimmy. Desimone was always overstepping boundaries and had committed a lot of other penalties besides offing a "made man" without permission.
Yes Henry Hill said in an interview that Tommy D shooting Spider and then later Billy Batts was his undoing. In fact, Henry also said that Tommy D scared Henry so bad that Henry would always walk with caution around Tommy.
What do you mean? If you’re referring to the film then a load of Billy Bates crew saw Tommy arguing with Billy and threatening to come back later. So when Billy went missing later it was obvious Tommy was involved. Even if Henry and Jimmy kept their mouths shut (which they did in the film). The other Gambino members would have told Paulie what really happened. And considering Tommy wasn’t just killed for Batts murder (although that was the main thing) he’d done other stuff too..so Paulie wasn’t gonna fight to save him. And the fact Tommy wasn’t a made guy.
It was a public service. Tommy had proven too many times that he was dangerous to anyone and everyone. The Boys that whacked him were doing the neighborhood a favor. Jimmy and Henry were able to keep Tommy under control for a while, and The Boys respected them for that.
The way I always understood it was that Bates went missing that night and there were several witnesses to the altercation with Tommy. So after so long of him being missing, his crew assumed he was dead and given the time frame of his disappearance, they put 2 and 2 together and blamed Tommy. However when Bates was actually killed, the club was empty and there was no witness or evidence implicating Jimmy or Henry with having anything to do with it and being that they had such high standing with Paulie, the Gambinos couldn't just make that assumption of them.
in the movie the bats killing was timed rong it was a week or 2 later after the shine box bit is when bats got killed .bats was not made by opening the books he payd his way allso calld buying your pin .bats was gottis buddy pauly told gotti who killd bats and let gotti do as he will tommy pissd off to menny ppl its was only a matter of time .in the movie it was said toomy had a closed castit becose he was shot in face fact was there was no boddy .last i heard his boddy was in the bacement of jimmys bar along with bats after the dug him upbecose of land sale
Hey henwy could have denied all knowing of Billy batts getting clipped, and Jimmy already wanted Batts dead. He basically scooped up all his loansharking operations and was coming to a head with him quicker than the movie suggests. The Lucchese family totally backed Jimmy because he was a ruthless earner who was guaranteed bank. Tommy was a loose cannon and more trouble than he's worth. If he was acting like that when he was an associate, could you imagine what he'd act like is he was made or was a captain with a crew of carefully chosen men to do his killing for him. Anarchy.
Fun Fact: They had to water Tommy DOWN for the movie. He was so legit for real that Scorsese didn't think the audience would believe that he was that evil and wild.
I imagine it's because Billy's crew saw Tommy come at Billy, and Henry and Jimmy pull him back and try to calm him down, and make him leave. It seems like a logical conclusion. It may not be the reason, but it seems possible.
The book goes into this a bit more. Paulie supposedly found out about this. Tommy was also sleeping with Paulie's wife/girl. So he decided to axe Tommy and give the Gambinos the guy who killed the main man, while taking out the guy messing with his woman.
Tommy DeSimone was a loose cannon with something to prove in life. He would kill without provocation. The fact that he killed a made man got him into trouble. But, I do think Paulie probably probably got fed up in answering for his actions every time he’d step out of line. Remember the scene where the restaurant owner came to Paulie about Tommy. That’s probably not an isolated incident.
That restaurant thing was a shakedown. Watch it again from the point of view that Paulie set it up. Look at all the stuff they do after they have the restaurant.
I think in reality - Jimmy had an awful lot to do with it - the root of it all was Jimmy had taken over Billy Batts bookmaking operation while he was in prison - and Billy wanted it back - Jimmy was not the type to give up business like that - so in an effort to get rid of the problem he helped instigate and stir up the bad blood between Billy and Tommy - knowing where that was going - so you see in the movie - Deniro is right there with him once it starts - beating and kicking him until they take him out in the rug and stuff him in the trunk of the car .
Should be noted in real world henry was like 13 years older than Tommy so was already an established presence in the mob while Tommy was still young and apparently wasn't an earner just muscle who outlasted his usefulness
I also believe that Jimmy was trying to take over Billy's shylocking operation which Billy wanted to regain when he got out of the can, so there could have been a multi faceted reason he was killed
I thought it was because tommy wanted to own a shoe shine business but Batts was working in that area. Tommy had intentions to be a capo and have lower level guys shine peoples shoes. The business was gonna be called Spitshine Tommy. Batts kept referring to tommy as just a shoe shiner and didn’t recognize that he was aiming to run it and not do any hands on work.
That's not just your belief, that's reality. Jimmy was given Batts' operation when Batts went to prison, and Batts was set to take it back. So it's no coincidence he got whacked right after getting out of prison. This altercation between Tommy and Batts was just a catalyst for what was going to happen anyway
@@RedRaider14 If you assume Henry Hill is a reliable narrator for what happened; whether in real life, or in the "based on a true story" fictionalized story.
@@robertbusek30 Yeah, that occurred to me. But maybe, as non-made accomplices after the fact, they were exempt. The common law didn't treat accomplices after the fact with the same degree of liability as the principal offender. Maybe this was true in the Mob as well. Or nobody else knew Jimmy and Henry helped get rid of the body later, whereas Tommy offed Billy in front of witnesses.
Tommy didn’t get killed just because of the Billy Bats incident. Tommy did a lot of fuck shit. He killed Foxy, who was John Gottis protégé because Tommy was trying to get with Foxys sister and Foxy wasn’t having none of it. Tommy was a wack job and he was dangerous. After killing Foxy and Billy and other things that Tommy did they had enough off him and he had to go. It’s rumored that Gotti killed Tommy himself but that’s just a rumor
I agree. It could perhaps be the somewhat relaxed nature of the narration throughout most of the film, or even the family-like nature of some of the conversations that occur... right up until Henry Hill's really paranoid and coked-up narration kicks in.
@@luisrosario3781 yeah I feel like the end scenes where Henry does his chores are the only intense moments. Not even the scenes with Billy bats killing and spider and eating dinner at Tommy's mother house are intense to me.
@@harshnaini The dinner scene with Tommy's mom was more wholesome than anything else. Between her insistence on making them food to the fact that that was Martin Scorsese's mom playing the part made it that much better.
MURDER! Does anybody know or have any solid facts about who/how Tommy was killed?? I read accounts about Gotti being involved, and Tommy being killed about unapproved killings, the sexual assaults, selling of narcotics issue with Paulie, etc. Henry Hill said, "I don't know how he was killed, all I know is he died slowly". I read an account stating that the executioners got Tommy drunk first at the phony ceremony, then they ambushed and beat him pretty bad, then held him down and sawed him in half while still alive. This to me seems plausible considering Henry's statement. Anybody have any input?
A good video with an excellent ending, a little nod for those who get it, and an incentive to watch for those who don’t. Your editing is tight, and your narration is strong. Your efforts are not going unnoticed, keep up the good work.
@snowest gaming I doubt it - he probably made more $ off of those movies than these classic gangster films . I do not know what type of Budget Scorcese had for Goodfellas - but I don' t think those actors got huge $ - he uses a lot of the same actors - Deniro , Pesci have been in numerous - both in raging bull , I think Pesci was in mean streets, Casino - (that probably had a big budget ) and the irishman - that one they probably got paid well . But I'll bet he made a lot of $ for those home alone movies
Apparently in real life there was a drug business fued between Tommy and Billy which went on for quite a while. It wasn't just some argument that got out of hand in a bar. If that's true then the mob killing him alone makes more sense as everyone knew they had a rivalry. They probably wouldn't have known of Jimmy and Henry's involvement.
I've haven't watched this video, but I've seen this movie enough times to answer the question. It's simple, Tommy killed Billy Batts, who was a made guy, and Tommy wasn't. In the mafia world, you have to have a sit down if you even want to attempt to kill a made guy. And at that sit down, you plead your case, and if the boss says NO, then you can not kill him. Tommy took it upon himself to just kill him which was a big no no.
@ ant boogie, not only did you not watch the video, you didn’t read the book either. It was about money. A guy that read the book about five comments below yours said Tommy took over a lot of the rackets Billy Bats had whilst Billy was incarcerated. When he got out of jail he wanted his gigs back. Every American likes money but those La Cosa Nostra guys and their wives LOVE money and most of their murders has to do with money.
@moester75 but if we're just going by the movie (which in this case you have to bc the director, Martin Scorsese, just can't assume everyone read the book), it was bc Tommy killed a made guy when Tommy wasn't a made guy. Like I said in my original comment, that's a huge no no. If you watched the Sopranos, Johnny Sac wanted to kill Ralphy bc of the joke he made about his wife. But he went to Carmine and asked for a sit down bc he wanted to kill him. Carmine voted no, and Johnny Sac had to just swallow that anger he felt towards Ralphy and let it go. Bc if he would've taken it upon himself to kill Ralphy, Johnny Sac 💯% would've been killed
@ Ant Boogie, fair enough buddy that’s a fair assessment. Not everyone read the book. I can’t believe Karen had consensual coitus with Paulie. The real Paulie didn’t look like Mira Sorvino’s dad.
Tommy was killed because he killed a made guy without permission- and a lot of other things that caused Paulie more aggravation than satisfaction. Billy Batts was a soldier of the Gambino crew, and the Gambinos deduced that it was either Jimmy or Tommy who killed Batts. So a sit-down was done between the Gambinos, Paulie and representatives of the Lucchese family (whom Paulie was a part of). So in order to settle the dispute, Paulie offered up Tommy to the Gambinos, because they knew that Tommy’s psychotic, out-of-control temper was likely a factor- and because Jimmy was such a good earner they would rather get rid of the problem child. So the dispute was ultimately settled with Tommy’s murder and other likely financial gifts.
I think it’s simple. No one knew exactly who was responsible but they knew Tommy had an argument with Billy. So it’s likely a negotiation occurred and Tommy was sacrificed to keep the peace and appease the family
A great flic all the way. I have watched the movie several times and have the DVD. I have watched several videos pointing out mistakes and other notes about the movie, but one thing that's never been mentioned about a mistake is in the opening scene it is suppose to be in 1962, but Henery Hill (Ray Liotta) is leaning up against the rear of a 1965 Chevrolet Impala. Frame 0:23
According to a recorded interview I saw here with Henry Hill a few months ago, another reason Two Gun Tommy got wacked, was because he murdered a Gambino associate by the mob name of "Foxy". Henry claimed to not know too much about Foxy because Foxy was also a Gambino. Tommy had the hots for Foxy's daughter. When Foxy saw Tommy at his daughter's place he told him not to come back so Tommy reportedly murdered him on the spot. Tommy was a "loose cannon".
@@spfg8225 Perhaps you are right. But I saw a Henry Hill interview where that is what he stated as ONE OF the reasons why the Gambinos wacked Two Gun. There were "other reasons"...🤔
The way I know it, Karen was having an affair with Paulie. Tommy made a move and was rejected, and beat Karen up and kicked her out of the car, just like the neighbor guy did. Karen told Paulie and Paulie gave him up for something
Tommy was killed because he was out of control and he broke a rule yes, true that Jimmy broke the same rule, but Jimmy was bringing in huge amounts of money to them, and they gave him a pass, but Tommy was taking money away from them. and he didn’t respect the rules And he wasn’t even made yet. Look at how he shot the young guy just for nothing that was serving him drinks and serving them food at the poker game. And then the young guy got fed up and spoke back to him. Then Jimmy instigated it and then Tommy killed the young guy. You can’t just be a out-of-control maniac So just imagine how Tommy would’ve been if he had gotten made, that’s a scary thing to think about.
Wouldn’t that out them as having been involved? I feel like it’s better to not rock the boat in that situation and be thankful no one came for you. Jimmy was already a prime suspect since batts wanted his loan sharing business back.
Well, Only Tommy was scene Cursing Billy Bates out. And not Jimmy, or Henry. They were trying to make peace between Tommy, and Billy. Even Henry Made Billy”s Drinking Bill On The House
There is some info out there that Spider was an up and coming earner for the crew. He was only 17 and loved by the whole crew and there was talk about him being made when he turned 18. Tommy didn't like the idea and was jealous of Spider. One of the reasons he was killed was actually because of Spider.
The book explains this situation a lot better; Bats got out of jail and wanted his schemes back. When he went away, he had all these earning jobs that soldiers under him were running. But in jail he lost control of all those, and many of them were taken over by Tommy and Jimmy (and to some extent, Henry). He got out and wanted all that back and Tommy didn't want to share. Burke made so much money for the mob, they weren't gonna kack him. Henry was a nobody, a minor figure who was irrelevant to the mob despite how he tries to portray himself.
Well said and thank you for the truth. My uncle told me when I was very young that in America “ anything that has anything to do with anything, has to do with money”. Of course in the end, it was all about money.
Plus, all Paulie needed was a scapegoat to pin Bats' murder on. Muscle--which is all Tommy was in the end--is a lot more easily replaced than a top earner.
Even though not as severe as Billy Batts, Spider's death was also a serious issue for the mafia as he was a civilian and probably had friends, fiancee/wife or relatives to search for him after he permanently disappeared. Something like that only brings unnecessary attention and would jeopardize business. What mafia values most is the secrecy. Mafia executions, unlike what Hollywood portrays, is actually quite rarer than what most people think and only used as a final resort. He got whacked simply because he was too unpredictable.
Tommy was killed not because of Bats: according to the book Wiseguy--no one in the Gotti family was sure he was dead. It was because Tommy as part of the crew that robbed the airport had his face seen when he took off his ski mask because of the heat. John Gotti went to Pauli and told him Tommy put them all at risk. He demanded Pauli have him killed, and Pauli agreed. (As Tommy's body was never found he was NOT given a closed casket funeral either.)
I've read that Jimmy Burke was the one behind it. He was killing off the crew members who had participated in Lufthansa because he wanted to keep the money himself.
@@MrX-sg9us He didn't kill the people because dead men can't talk? That's to much money. I think he would've killed them to not go to jail forever & a day.
Tommy didn't pistol whip Batts to death. He pistol whipped him unconscious. Batts died from multiple stabs and three gunshots from Tommy and Jimmy respectively while they were transporting what they THOUGHT was a corpse. Why does everyone always seem to forget that scene? 😂
It's not in every version of the movie. I have seen a UA-cam video about that scene, and went to watch the movie a few weeks later. But the scene wasn't in the movie, I think they removed it from some versions? I couldn't find anything about it online
The guy hosting this video needs to get his facts right. Jimmy and Henry weren't made because they were Irish if Henry's father was Italian rather then his mother he would have been made even with Irish blood. It used to be you had to be full blooded Italian but that has changed if the father is Italian and the mother was Chinese a person could be made. It wasn't Irish blood it was a a lack of Italian blood on the fathers side.

Nothing tops TGF 1-2. But Goodfellas comes close.

The rest of the story: Henry's witness protection moved him to Arlen, TX and he started going by "Hank". His wife's name was changed to Peggy. They had a son, Bobby. Feds set him up with a job selling propane and propane accessories.
He also spent time in Northern KY. His kids went to Simon Kenton HS I believe. He would hang out at the local racetrack Turfway Park.
Lmao
I’ll tell you h’wat
i didn't get it until i read the lasr two words. lmao
He had a son? Even with his, uh, y'know, narrow urethra?
He was a wild card and predictably unpredictable. His ego was so inflated he couldn’t control himself and killed anyone without thinking about consequences. That puts the whole business at risk. In my opinion it’s really quite simple. Not because he was “difficult to be around.” Plenty of egos are difficult to be around. He was just a huge liability and was better off dead for the sake of everybody.
I thought the kid he shot in the foot was going to be the one to take him out.
Well said...and also the fact it came out he killed a MADE MAN without permission and that's a no no

Correct. Sound logic
There was no 14th amendment in the Mob. Generally, if they thought you were involved. You were dead. Not a lot of people wanted to fuck with Jimmy the Gent though. He was just as nuts as Tommy. Look at how many bodies came out of the Lufthansa heist.

"It was revenge for Batts... plus a bunch of other stuff." It's strongly hinted by Henry that that might have been the case

His one hustle was running a station wagon filled with cartons of cigarettes from North Carolina to NYC every weekend on pass from the Army.. good read highly recommended
My son is Airborne Ranger in the 82nd I’m very proud of him
If you ever read the book Wise Guy (what the movie is based off of), Tommy had a brother who was a rat. I believe Hill in the book says that’s why he was always going out of his way to be a tough guy, had to show them he wasn’t like his brother.
Your right it was a few of his family members
This is true. I read that too
Which is why it’s ironic that when he kills spider he says “his whole family was full of rats, kid was gonna grow up to be a rat”.

Knowing Tommy was seen killing Morty and Stacks, it could be seen as this:
Tommy killed the others involved in the Luftansa heist that would implicate the mob on the crime.
Never looked at it that way.. great point

Still doesn't answer the question of WHO ratted Tommy out to Paulie about the Billy Batts murder?
What do you mean? If you’re referring to the film then a load of Billy Bates crew saw Tommy arguing with Billy and threatening to come back later. So when Billy went missing later it was obvious Tommy was involved. Even if Henry and Jimmy kept their mouths shut (which they did in the film). The other Gambino members would have told Paulie what really happened. Tommy was the one who killed a made man without being authorised. Billy Bats to be exact.

Back then, just threatening a “made man” was enough to get you killed.
The book goes into this a bit more. Paulie supposedly found out about this. Tommy was also sleeping with Paulie's wife/girl. So he decided to axe Tommy and give the Gambinos the guy who killed the main man, while taking out the guy messing with his woman.
This topic actually makes the whole story sound like Bullsh!t,,, In the real world, Henry would have been killed long before Tommy
I was under assumption that it was for killing a made man and other transgressions.
Yep,.
@@cupofqwarffee4802 Also, it's a good example of what's happening now to the US as a nation. It's a global shake down, baby.
"You think you're Scarface (or tommy devito), but you ain't see the end of the movie"
Jimmy was a money machine. That's why he wasn't killed, period.
Tommy had to die for killing Spider! Btw, you said Tommy only killed 2 people in the film but he also killed Morris and Stacks.
Should be noted in real world henry was like 13 years older than Tommy so was already an established presence in the mob while Tommy was still young and apparently wasn't an earner just muscle who outlasted his usefulness

@@MoviesConsigliere I'm already thinking about it!
@@Filthy_Larry Stoopid 😂
The shinebox reference refers to when Tommy was a kid he used to shine shoes for money before he got involved with Jimmy.
That's not just your belief, that's reality. Jimmy was given Batts' operation when Batts went to prison, and Batts was set to take it back. So it's no coincidence he got whacked right after getting out of prison. This altercation between Tommy and Batts was just a catalyst for what was going to happen anyway
They literally.... LITERALLY say in the movie exactly why he was murdered lmao.
@@RedRaider14 If you assume Henry Hill is a reliable narrator for what happened; whether in real life, or in the "based on a true story" fictionalized story.
Henry Hill was not a teenager yet in 1955. He would have been 11 and 12.
Movie explains this. Tommy killed Billy Batts, a made guy, without permission. His own life was, therefore, forfeited.
"And......a whole lotta other things."
But movie-wise, Jimmy and Henry were involved in that killing too (Henry less so, but still…).
Me too.

The Bosses Really liked Spyder, THIS is the main reason Tommy Got it
"It was revenge for Billy Batts. And a lot of other things."
Real grease ball shit
A good video with an excellent ending, a little nod for those who get it, and an incentive to watch for those who don’t.
Your editing is tight, and your narration is strong. Your efforts are not going unnoticed, keep up the good work.
Joe Pesci as Tommy 2 Guns, Nicky Santoro (Anthony Spilotro) and the unforgettable Leo Getz! Just a few of his amazing performances!
Don’t forget Harry
@snowest gaming Is that Gone Fishin ? Oh Home Alone, right
@snowest gaming I doubt it - he probably made more $ off of those movies than these classic gangster films .
They probably wouldn't have known of Jimmy and Henry's involvement.
they wouldnt wait 9 years to kill him then
Stupid question for those who watched this legendary movie.
Frame 0:23
4:40 : Rumor is, Billy Bats did 20 years in the can!
Tommy Desimone was even worse in real life then he was portrayed in the movie. The guy would just shoot some random person to try out a new gun
And he was huge. 6 feet or in that neighborhood. Big guy.
@Stefano Pavone oh yes. I believe it. Completely.
Sounds like me whenever I play Grand Theft Auto
According to a recorded interview I saw here with Henry Hill a few months ago, another reason Two Gun Tommy got wacked, was because he murdered a Gambino associate by the mob name of "Foxy". Henry claimed to not know too much about Foxy because Foxy was also a Gambino. Tommy had the hots for Foxy's daughter. When Foxy saw Tommy at his daughter's place he told him not to come back so Tommy reportedly murdered him on the spot.
Tommy was a "loose cannon".
No Foxy wasn't a Gambino associate yes Member Never
@@spfg8225 Perhaps you are right.
But I saw a Henry Hill interview where that is what he stated as ONE OF the reasons why the Gambinos wacked Two Gun.
There were "other reasons"...🤔
It was actually foxys sister

The way I know it, Karen was having an affair with Paulie. Tommy made a move and was rejected, and beat Karen up and kicked her out of the car, just like the neighbor guy did. Karen told Paulie and Paulie gave him up for something
Actually it's a bit more cold-blooded than that Tommy was an enforcer not a earner
My question is why did it take them years to pop Tommy when they knew he killed Bats the whole time?
Frank Vincent was the only one who was in Goodfellas, Casino, and the Sopranos

Paul Herman was in all three and also 'The Irishman'

I'm going to make an entire video about it.

Haha! Lies. Did you also read that Stacks was going to be made as well 🤣🤣💪
He didn’t die. He become Chris from soprano
@@BagavanSmokey so he was made before Tommy ever was.
isn´t one big question did spider ever even exist? ....like that random dude who tommy shot in the street without reason? according to henry hill 🤔
If Spider was earning enough to have them even consider making him as a teenager, he would’ve had a bigger role in the movie
20 fucking years
Well said and thank you for the truth.
I still believe they didn't know Jimmy or Henry was involved, because I still believe Paulie ratted Tommy out because he was too out of control
(As Tommy's body was never found he was NOT given a closed casket funeral either.)
this isnt even close to true....check out "Our thing" with sammy the bull he talks about this incident and why tommy got whacked
Didn't Tommy get whacked in real life by Gotti or Gotti's crew.
Wrong.

But the real Tommy didn’t kill Mori, he was already dead.

Tommy didn't pistol whip Batts to death. He pistol whipped him unconscious. Batts died from multiple stabs and three gunshots from Tommy and Jimmy respectively while they were transporting what they THOUGHT was a corpse. Why does everyone always seem to forget that scene? 😂

Billy batts wasn’t pistol-whipped to death . He was fatally stabbed
Before he got stabbed, he constantly told anyone who would listen that he did 20 years in the can.
