Great video. I went into my current company as a university/college graduate for an SDR role. I've since been promoted to junior seller without actually hitting top targets. I've realised that's because my company is an engineering-first, sales second company (they actually don't like sales people) - they actually prefer my understanding of product and being able to behave/think like an engineer. An out and out sales company like Snowflake, I don't think it would be for me - as you said, too much of a robotic grind with every day being a fight for survival.

@@TrentDressel Trent in the video, it looks like the right side of your face has grown higher than the other! I though it was an optical illusion. What the hect has happened to you? Did you get jumped by a pack of safe space -seeking liberals in those cities you recently ping-ponged around in? Do tell!

Its seems like too much stress and anxiety to one, get through the rigorous interview phases. Secondly, to even keep your place in the company afterwards. An uphill battle. Im still on the fence with it. This comes from a guy that has done sales over the phone and in person.

Great Video Trent! I’m a recent Finance grad and because of you I’ve begin looking at getting into software sales. Hard to decide if it’s the right path but with every career there’s going to be some cons!

Your finance knowledge will translate - often the “non” sales person is the best at the job

Appreciate the honesty, Trent. Yes its (potentially) lucrative, but its a lot of hard work and not glamorous, like some would make it out to be.

Great video : )You accidentally wrote the word monogamy (3:05) which is very different from monotony.

I work as a bartender, how would you recommend I get into a SDR job (I have the luxury of not needing super high pay immediately, I'm more concerned with getting experience.)

What are the differences between becoming an account manager and an account executive, and which role may be more suitable after working as an SDR?

      AE - acquiring new logos
      AM - expanding existing logos

Trent, I got denied for an SDR position but my resume got accepted for an “Inside Sale Rep” position at the same tech company and the Inside Sales Rep pays more than the SDR role and I made it to the second interview for a pretty decent sized private tech company. It had a ton of applicants and now its down to me and two other people for this second interview (they are only hiring one person). Apparently I work with existing clients and have to “up sell” them different products. This will be my first time in tech sales if I make it. Do you know much about “inside sales reps” at tech companies and if so, what is your opinion on the role?

It sounds more like an account manager role.
      SDR/ae - new customer acquisition
Account manager - up selling existing clients

I’m seriously thinking of going into this industry. Would you recommend software sales over consulting as a career?
