Brilliant job, the best one of these I've seen, many thanks for posting this video. I love the overhang around the inner edge of the false ceiling surround, most of the DIY builds I've seen don't do this, but it seems important to me as a way of hiding the LED strip as well as increasing the effect of the starfield being way up in the distance beyond the ceiling. Can I ask, where is the LED strip mounted - is it on the horizontal or vertical? Thanks again, this video's been extremely useful as I'm going to begin my own attempt at this next month.
Thanks so much for your positive feedback and message. It was a pleasure to read and I greatly appreciate it. The LED strip is mounted on the horizontal part and points light straight up, so only ceiling edges would appear to be washed out and not the whole star ceiling. I hope it helps and good luck with your project! Do not hesitate to get in touch if you will have further questions along the way.
@@DIY_it_ALL Thanks so much for your reply, very helpful: I'd been trying to visualise where the best placement for the LED strip was - and yours works perfectly, so I'll go with a horizontal mount. I've seen several of these starfield DIYs where there's no lowered outer surround, rather the whole starfield is contained in a "dropped box" which, to my eyes, 100% misses the point of what makes these look so good. Thanks again, yours is the video that's fully inspired me (i.e. yours is the build I'm going to copy!) Cheers, keep yourself safe and healthy, all the best.
This is exactly what I want to do in my home theater!! This one is soo perfect! You perfectly understand how light placement is so important beautiful I guess I should keep this video saved for when I get to that room!!
Looks fab, only difference I would have done is put leds for the down lighters. Saves energy and looks so much nice. I’m a daylight led lover haha. Dimmer-able of course
Absolutely stunning pal, full stars all day long, I’m so envious but @ the very same time so very impressed with the end results which you’ve achieved & accomplished ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This would go excellent in my game room.. i can imagine the look on peoples faces when we are playing mario kart/party and suddenly the ceiling lights up with stars..
Extremely excellent build!! Fantastic!! You should start doing professional installs, you could probably make some good money. Looks very professional and is amazing!! Keep up the great work.
Hi, I really like what you have done here and I am looking to do something similar to a room in my home. Is there anyway you can make a separate video breaking down everything you did in and what you used in detail to pull this off. I would really appreciate it. I'm sure I'm not the only one wanting to see this.
Well what an amazing job mate. You only look young as well, very talented, and it looks so cool, there's not many people sitting in a living room like this! Haha showing this to my mate (electrician) tomorrow, and see if he could pull this of in my living room! If not then I'd pay you well to do this for me mate...🙏😊
Thank you so much ,this is like a magic for me ,my dream comes true ,it world's best roof decorating idea for me ,thank you so so so so much sir for posting this video 🙏
Loved your video. A job well done! Can you guide on how you connected 15 m of addressable led strip. I mean addressable led strip are only available in 5m rolls. Can you possibly make a tutorial on connecting 15m led addressable strip as a single strip project
Hi Monis, Thanks so much for your kind comments. You are absolutely right, addressable LED's do come in 5m lengths. But it is very easy to join them by soldering strips together or just using small wires to join them (like any other LED strip). The strip can be as long as you want it to be, but the key here is to maintain voltage throughout the strip and ensure it does not drop below required levels. Try searching 'addressable LED power injection' or 'addressable LED voltage drop' on UA-cam and you should find some tutorials. I might do LED strip tutorial video in the future, but my focus now is on the new project I am working on - bedroom with projector and cinema surround sound system all mounted within the ceiling. Projector will come down and go back up into the ceiling whilst using a remote control. Feel free to subscribe to my channel and keep an eye on my videos. Thanks again for your comment and take care.
Hello, I like how you converted this ceiling to something amazing. Great work. Would you mind sharing the dimensions of the wood used to prepare the ceiling tray please ?
It's fine to paint over fibre optic strands. As you can see they shine through just fine and I applied two coats of paint. Though I did leave them sticking out by about 2-3mm in case I would need to trim them down in future after a refresh coat of paint.
What a beautiful looking ceiling, its lovely, can you please tell me what type of fiber glass lights are they and what type of strip light have you used for the coving please, l would like to do something like that to my ceiling, Thank you
Thanks so much! The soffit is 500mm deep and height between it and ceiling is 250mm (100 mm for the bottom 'lip' and 150mm for the 'base' which is fixed directly to ceiling). Hope it makes sense.
I apologize for missing it, but how did you hang the false ceiling? I think I saw screws going into the plaster board but didn’t see what you attached the screws to. I’m assuming you put the plaster right up against the current ceiling and drilled into the studs?
Thanks so much! I bought all lights from China, but I'm sure you can get them anywhere in the world - SK6812 strip, SP108E controller, 30W driver and 400 fibre led starlight set.
Hey was looking to do this this month was wondering what the measurements of the frame was, like how far down it comes from the ceiling and the width from the wall cheers

The only reason I didn't put dimmable LED's is because of their buzzing noise when dimmed.

WOw, that's so nice 👍🙂

Wow awesome hand work
Thats awesome, great job. But how do you pait the ceiling but not the fibres?
im thinking the same,
Thanks!
You can paint over them. But I'd leave them sticking out a couple of millilitres in case you'll want to paint your ceiling again in future.
I just didn’t understand how painting over the fiber like done at 5:38 didn’t block the fiber. 😮
It's fine to paint over fibre optic strands. As you can see they shine through just fine and I applied two coats of paint. Though I did leave them sticking out by about 2-3mm in case I would need to trim them down in future after a refresh coat of paint.

Thank you. All is thought through and all electrical components are accessible via an access hatch in the dropped ceiling. 👍
