nice video and bice experience. I did it in autumm of 2012,from Cap de Creus to Cabo Higuer, and it was impressionant. Congratultions for the video,!!!
Beautiful video, thanks for sharing your experience with us 🙃 I'm planning to hike the GR11 next summer and this kind of videos really inspire me. Very impressive that you manage to regain the power to get back on trail after your illness, well done!
This was, just as your video on Slovenia, a really nice overview for the GR 11. I'm looking to do this hike sometime in the future and always love when i stumble upon stuff about it.
Welcome to my channel. So glad you like it! Can’t recommend this trail enough, the video probably doesn’t even do justice to the beauty of the Pyrenees
Hi Helena, thank you for sharing your experience of the GR11. It looks amazing! Congrats for finishing the trail. I'm planning to do it in summer 2024 and I'm even more excited now! I'm interested if you used a guide book for the trail? How did you know about the villages, where to get water, food etc.? By the way I also watched your other videos and love the inspiration for these incredible mountain adventures! The slovenian mountain trail is on my bucket list now 😍 All the best for your future hikes 🌻
Hey Elena! Im happy you liked the video 😍 I used the cicerone guide book and I liked it a lot, it was really helpful! This is also how I knew about villages and so on. But I also used mapy.cz or komoot offline maps to see where villages are or where to find water. Hope that helps :-)
Hey i met you at the GR11!! We met in the refuge after Goriz (Ordesa y monte perdido). And the people in the Video (4:14) are JP and Angelica, i walked with them during my last 10 days! Greetings! I remember u were telling that u got so sick and just had a phonecall with ur doctor! Awesome job with that video btw! Love it!
Incredible vibes that lifted me up as I smiled amid every frame or should I say step. Great that you recovered Helena and finished the hike. Inspiring. All the best. Mark
I came across you guys in Isaba. You were resting just after the decent, I joined you for a while. Unfortunately I quit there, but watching this makes me want to go back one day
Hey! Haven’t seen a shepherd dog, but my friend did. He barked but he didn’t attack or anything. No bears, just lots of cows and wild horses. I think you don’t need to worry about these. None of the people I met on trail encountered any problems :-)
@@neosynneto1190 i have not recorded it myself, but I followed this track on Komoot : www.komoot.com/tour/834988488?ref=itd I think you can probably download it from there
Not really! At the Mediterranean side it’s generally hotter so I think it’s better to get there later (in my case end of august) instead of mid July which is very hot. Most people go that way, only met a few who went against the stream. Can be more lonely I think. But definitely possible!
In the beginning I had stretched where I was carrying 5 Liters because we were dry camping. Later in the high Pyrenees, there is plenty of water and you won’t carry as much. In the end it can be pretty dry again with longer water carries. I never had to carry more than 5 Liters and I wouldn’t even have needed these if we chose our campsites wiser 😂
What time of year did you hike? I was there in July 2018 and only saw one other person on the trail. I also ended up getting sick -- in Sallent de Gallego with awful food poisoning and fever and dropped out of the hike. I want to return this summer...
Very nice video👍. Great impression of this fantastic landscape and scenery. Hope to take the same trip sometime in a not to distant future - planning have started😀
Wow! impressive. Did you take a tripod or gimbal? Did you have issues with battery life or did you have a battery pack? Thinking about doing this hike this year.@@helena_hikes
@@loganinsinga1620 no tripod and no gimbal, the camera automatically stabilises videos. It only sucks with front lighting and low light. I carried a battery pack but generally I was able to charge my phone as often as I needed in towns or mountain huts!
Hey Helena I dont know if you even see this but I would love to know something about the meals and in generel food on the trail. I always struggle with healthy and balanced food on longer trails. Especially because you dont want to carry so much weight. Do you have any recommendations? I am planning to do the GR 11 this summer and was wondering if I can optimize my food preparation.
Hi! I do try to eat as healthy as possible so here’s a few tips on how I handle my nutrition on trail: - for breakfast I either eat porridge or granola with powdered oatmilk, that you just need to add water too. I put in some fresh fruits one day after Resupply or on the day of resupply and on longer carries i use dried fruits. - for lunch I like to eat tortillas and on the GR11 I always found some hummus or avocados. I usually also packed out some spinach or other kind of salad but I usually had to eat it within one day. Most of the time it was fine so I had some spinach in my tortilla and in my dinner too! - for dinner I mostly ate something with lentils even though I eventually really got tired of them. But I used to boil them in vegetable broth until soft, added some spices (curry or Asian spices) some of the spinach and some cashew nuts. Sometimes I also ate a bit of mashed potatoes. I found that I really liked a mix of mashed potatoes and lentils. Whenever I was in town I timed my meals so I had a big one with lots of fruits and vegetables right in front of the store. Luckily the food carries on the GR11 are no longer than 4 days depending on your hiking speed. I might also make a video dedicated to this topic soon :-) happy trails!!
Hey thanks a lot for your detailled reply :) that actually doesn't sound to bad. However I can imagine how nice it is to get something else whenever you can :)
I finished on the 14th of August 2022, got really sick in the final week with multiple heat strokes, passing out on trail and in camp and throwing up. Still no idea how I made it to the end😅 worth it
