The biggest problem that got me to stop playing was the lack of accessibility concerning the button prompts. I don't know why they didn't go with a more modern system, like the prompts used in South Park: The Fractured But Whole. I don't have great vision and I basically have no idea when I am supposed to press the buttons to parry attacks, which basically meant I died in the first area after the tutorial - ran out of potions and revives pretty fast. I don't know why the timings had to be so hard for. Completely alienated me. Never had a problem in paper mario or south park etc. They didn't just make a niche game, they went for a tiny niche here.
Thank you for your review! Having finished the game I can say that it is a hidden gem. Yes, it lacks some essential quality of life upgrades, it's sluggish, from a technical aspect it's ancient but the artwork, soundtrack, heartfelt story, interesting world, well made characters and its time mechanics makes it worth your time. If only it had a bigger budget and more time in the oven. Could've been so much more. All in all, a 7 is where it stands now. Maybe we'll get a sequel or a new game from the Columbian team who made this game. A more ambitious and unique project.
this game starts off very hard the first hour then once you get the ability to heal it becomes ridiculously easy. This game could have been something special if the time aspects were handled with more emphasis. Plus many of the battles don't require said features. This really is a starter RPG for people new to the genre and plays like a tech demo more so than a polished game.
I think a lot of the difficulty issues come down to having an enormous pool of MP. It really allows you to keep on top of health, deal out a lot of spell damage, and speed up your characters to avoid enemies' follow up attacks. -Bloodworth
I felt a bit bad about not enjoying this one - it’s at least ambitious and clearly made with *huge* amounts of love, but it doesn’t compare to something like radiant historia on the 3ds where you have that epic fatalistic meta layer of plot on top of the time travel stuff.
@@ZachOfAllTrades7 It's on PC gamepass as well but no cross saving or even cloud saving unfortunately. Thankfully finding the the save file is easy if you need to transfer between PCs.
It's not easy to find words to clearly describe disappointment in a good game, I still struggle to do so for Wolfenstein The New Colossus after years. Great review, Bloodworth.
I think it has to do with your own taste. I agree with you on Wolfenstein II, I loved the original but the sequel was a bit too much. Maybe it was too hard for me, but I'm the type that if I'm not enjoying it while also stuck/failing then I switch. Too many games, not enough time. Doom Eternal was the same. I hate Marauders. It ruined an enjoyable game
I agree with most things in this review - well done. However, I must express that I am a bit disappointed that you did not research/mention the fact that the frog, Matias, is actually a character who stems from Hispanic folklore. No mention of any of the inspirations from which the game draws from :( This is especially important through an anthropological lens, since we do not experience this sort of cultural representation in games media at large.
I did discuss those elements near the end, and I do think it's one of the game's strengths. But I don't think a review is the place to identify and contrast each and every instance. -Bloodworth
I personally really dislike 'timing' in a lot of RPG's, I still play and enjoy them but i really could do without. I never finished indivisible because it was quite shallow and had the timing thing. But I'm a sucker for great art styles so im probably going to play this either way damn it.'
I wanted to like this game so so badly, I looked forward to it for so long and got it immediatly when it came out and it was fun to play but as you get to the end game it was an absolute slog, so much back and forth and weird story elements that should have been explored more or set up better and the ending just feels kinda...off. So i felt very disapointed in the end of the game and kinda sad.
@@GamerbyDesign Thanks but I'll decide where my money goes. Also instead of assuming so much I own a PC, switch and ps4/5, vita, 3ds xl, and gamecube. I just rather own my games physically. Gamepass is not for people like me.
Pretty harsh score. I just started playing the game and I'm loving the game. I give it 9/10. Seeing the past, present and future all at once during exploring is one of the most innovative ideas ever done in a video game. That alone deserves an 8. And using the poison spell, fast forward time attack in terms of combat is pure genius. Innovation is starting to be lost art in gaming and these developers did a solid job in terms of innovation. And the graphics and sound/ voice acting is great as well.
Again, I want to support these developers, but the pricing structure for other regions is silly. This game costs almost as much as Tales of Arise. That's silly. I will wait for a sale and hopefully there will be a patch or two by then.
"An orphan who's life is changed by a talking yellow frog wearing a top hat." I really love this sentence.
That frog must be related to the WB frog.
This is an RPG that definitely deserves a sequel to hone in on the game's potential. It is there, even if it flounders in a few places.

I physically have real trouble with timed button presses, i'd play this if I could turn them off
@@Dmu_girl-2008 I would too! Game looked interesting otherwise.
At least this runs better than cyberpunk 2077

And the devs charge too much for this tech demo. $40? Kind of steep

@@JeskidoYT I have complaints about the regional pricing, but it's not a tech demo at all.

Dang, this looked so good. If it gets a huge sale I'll definitely consider it
It's included in Xbox Gamepass, on console at least, not sure about PC.

its free on epic games now.
I too agree the game is something special but really needs something a little more. I think we should watch this studio!
They should just call it "swimmin out of 10"
This reminds me of that one RPG that was like a storybook.
Child of Light? If so, yeah..
I wonder if that frog is related to the WB frog.
Great review Blood

Hearing Chris Tales pronounced that way is bizarre. I always thought it would be cristales (crees tall ehs) like the Spanish word for crystals.
It is absolutely a reference to that, but they play with it in a lot of different forms throughout the game. -Bloodworth

the timing in here sucks. i usually dont mind timing but this one makes it very unclear where the timing should occur
Thank God for Game pass. I put 5 hours in and I was good. 🙃
i really wanted to like this game because of the great art style, but the demo fell a bit flat for me . i think it just felt a bit too childish.
I had conflicting feelings with this game as well.
Wasn't this game already out? I've been seeing it showing up in the last 5 or 6 E3s lol.
Games don't usually show up at E3 if they're finished. I think this was introduced at E3 2019, but it just came out in July. -Bloodworth

Got the game downloaded but don't have the motivation to start playing lol
The loading times before and after battles are kinda tiresome.
This made me stop playing on my original xbox one. Thank god was on game pass, if I bought it I'd be really upset. Had to just uninstall this game.
I played the demo, but the engine being pseudo 3d kind of breaks the art design

I absolutely hate voice acting. This game looked like a cool game until I heard it. It sounds like a game for a literal three-year-olds.
