If you don’t want to watch some of them but are still curious, Mista GG is an awesome creator who does reviews of disturbing movies in a lighthearted way that’s watchable but also doesn’t make it too light if that makes sense. From this list, he’s done The Sadness and Soft and Quiet, but he’s also done Nekromantik and Pink Flamingos for example. Really recommend his channel in general! ♥️
Another channel recommendation for disturbing movie reviews for those curious but not curious enough to watch the actual film ( I’m one of those ) is Couple of Creeps. They’re a small channel but they’re great and they review some of the deeper iceberg movies.
Also, Spooky Rice. Very helpful to me.
also love love zzzavid !
Yesss love these MistaGG and Spookyrice shout outs!
I ADORE Mista GG. I have an intense, reckless curiosity I have to control and Mista GG’s channels have allowed me to feed my curiosity about movies I probably shouldn’t watch on my own.
As an autistic woman, I do the exact same thing with every horror movie, looking up the plot to see if I can handle it. Children and animals are off limits, or I will have a very visceral reaction and it will be hard for me to shake. I also struggle with SA because of a previous abusive relationship. Nothing wrong with knowing your boundaries!
I won't watch a movie that has a dogs in it, because they alway die.
wow but humans fine. Dogpill is indeed brutal@@cmacdhon
Yeah same here, I look up trigger warnings for horror movies, if it has SA or sexual violence I pass
same here! i refuse to watch movies in which children and dogs are killed, ESPECIALLY if in gorey fashion.
You can use the page called "does the dog dies?" Where u put the name and its have a checklist of the triggers wanings without spoilers
Can’t get enough of these ❤ let’s all embrace our boundaries in watching movies. I just watched the sadness yesterday and I regret it. I knew I would, but I still watched it. And now I know why it’s called the sadness. Cause it made me really sad.
dude yeah i remember blind watching this and literally started crying bc it was so gnarly. didn’t think it was particularly amazing either
As in the Taiwanese horror film? Then be aware of the Crossed comic series because that film was loosely based off that comic
Yeah that movie is specifically for horror fans that love gore and wish that more movies had more gore.
@@nrgbunni. i love gore it was the sexual aspects i couldn’t handle
@@gracex3217exactly. All the gore was fine… The eye scene though.. made me sick
even though i would watch some of the movies on this list, these vids are so comforting to me. i refuse to watch any movies with on screen sa or extreme and targeted violence against women, and i hate that theres a stigma in the horror community about having boundaries. thank you for making these vids!!
Yeah I used to be able to watch most disturbing things when I was younger and then I watched something really messed up and had a panic attack, and these days I'm a lot more sensitive and more selective about what I'll watch, I still like to watch horror movies sometimes though
I accidentally watched a clip of an indie movie (can't remember the title) where a woman was SA-ed and then shot in the head (twice!) and I felt so nauseous that I turned it off immediately. I just couldn't do it. The promotional pictures and trailers of Terrifier also just turned me off from the movies so I just never bothered watching it, I have a feeling I can't stomach those either. But I do love psychological horror/thrillers and folk horror.
Your synopsis of When Evil Lurks is pretty accurate!! I super get why it would not be for you but I did not realize that I was getting into a VERY good and VERY disturbing film with it and I was super impressed by it since I didn’t have any expectations. Super recommend if it sounds interesting to a neutral party and it sounds like something they can handle! Definitely disturbing though so be well aware!
Sarah, you mentioned Lars Von Trier... Have you ever seen "Dancer in the Dark"? It's not a horror movie, but it's directed by him. It stars Bjork (yes, the Icelandic singer) as a factory worker who's losing her eyesight, and her attempts to get money so her son can have an operation to prevent the same thing happening to him. It's really good, but pretty depressing.
Such a powerful movie, great you remembered and recommended! :) I would include Dogville also, unique!
This is one of my all time favourite movies . What a heartbreaking movie
The Nightingale is about the nature of friendship. It is about how friendship and mutual trust can be forged between two people from two completely different worlds. So,do not rely on opinions and descriptions because you may overlook something really interesting and inspiring.
Wise words.
if she doesn’t want to watch it, she doesn’t want to watch it
@@kphoria1009 Right. Which does not change the fact that it is always better to watch a film in order to form a solid opinion of it,correct? Otherwise it is just a silly guessing.
You're so far the only person I've seen who has the same opinion on over-the-top-gory horror comedies, I'm so glad I'm not alone on disliking them (yet also loving Cabin in the Woods!)
I think my "I will never watch this" series is the Terrifier films. I can't do torture or extreme gore or any of that. Same with any Saw (or Final Destination) film after the first one. When it starts to get... creatively gory, that's when I'm throwing in the towel
God I actually watched The Nightingale despite everything I heard about the premier. I regretted it, I felt sick in the beginning where the movie is obviously at its worst. And even when skipping through it the rest was just a lot. I felt so depressed for a while after. Make sure you watch out for your mental health!
Yup. It's a fantastic, important movie due to the setting and subject matter, but I don't recommend it to anyone who isn't in a good place mentally. It's a LOT.
I don't blame you for skipping through it
@@sVieira151 Nightingale is one of my favourites, but I also will not recommend it to people unless they're in a very healthy mental space and/or have not dealt with the themes in the film.
Great list! I was just thinking about how much child torture and death scenes there are in the Terrifier movies and that's just not something I am 100% comfortable with. Videos like yous make me feel better to know I am not alone with this mentality and that's okay to skip out!
I've watched so many disturbing movies but after watching The Sadness in the movie theater for the first time ever I was genuinely so scared to go to sleep because I was scared of dreaming about the movie. after watching it I felt kinda depressed for couple days as well that never happens I'm like numb to horror lol.
the part that got me probably is how the zombies were always like smiling and being so happy while doing the most horrifying things to people
Agreed so disturbing the smiling made it worse
That movie was so over the top with the gore and violence its become goofy.
I hate zombie movies so I stayed away from it. Is it really good?
@@cyberspace7208 I don’t like zombie movies that much either but I did like this one even though it was so disturbing
just be prepared that there is so much gore like as soon as the movie starts and then almost nonstop for the rest of the movie but I did find the plot interesting still
The Nightengale has a great monologue at the end that I think you would appreciate.
Great video! I would only like to point out that The Nightingale is not a horror movie, but a historical drama (a good one!). That being said, the scene you refer to is certainly disturbing
Can't forget the terrifying killing of Alex Kittner boy in the original OG JAWS! Oh yeah and a dog dies by the shark but it's off screen
Started "Soft and Quiet" and promptly stopped it. A lot of other movies you mentioned are on my No Watchlist too. Thanks for doing videos on the important subject of boundaries in horror.
Me too lmfao like why was this movie even made. I’ve watched messed up movies but this one feels like a pointless watch
@@missebonie7169 The point was to show how hate and group think can go from "harmless" meetings, jokes, etc to escalation of full on violence. The one take style illustrates the growing tension perfectly. It's a depiction of people who are seemingly "normal" towns people... business owners, teachers, soccer moms, etc. That's what makes it even more disturbing because it's reality. The scene where the teacher casually brags to the group about sabotaging her black student... That's real racism hiding in plain site.
When Evil Lurks does some really bold and brutal things...but its not done in a way that made me feel icky. Something like Terrifier, on the other hand just felt like it was made by a sociopath expressing his sadistic fantasies.
The Nightingale is DEFINITELY a very heavy watch, not for everyone
Soft and Quiet is disturbing because of how grounded it is. The whole thing is 1 long cut and makes you feel like you dont really get a break from the brutality
As someone who doesn’t have boundaries and love exploitation movies I love your message. Do you like horror movies? Congrats you’re a horror fan. I have movies I won’t watch again but my mindset is I’ll watch anything once
I'm in the same boat as you being a "picky" horror movie fan who has boundaries on certain things.
Love u for helping to normalize that cuz all my friends just look at me funny when I try to explain it to them
Terrifier is the only horror movie that has ever TRULY scared me, it sticks with me
It's so funny how different horror movie taste can be :D Because I have and I want to see every movie on this list ^^
I think Tucker and Dale Vs Evil has such a deep sincerity that’s hard to replicate, which makes it so good
I just watched When Evil Lurks yesterday and was looking for your review for it! But I totally understand why you wouldn't want to watch it ❤
ahhh the new haircut is super cute!!!
While im not against the killing of kids in movies, theres a difference between simply killing and torture as you said, Art does use alot of bad means when he kills, compared to Pennywise. There was also the death in A Quiet Place (spoilers)
soft and quiet is not worth watching so you’re not missing out. it’s as bad as you think
I guess what I don't understand the following...why do you have a horror channel if you cut yourself off from viewing so much in the horror genre? It's a genre that is constantly pushing the boundaries of good taste and violating people's comfort zones. It's part of the genre's appeal. I watch a ton of other horror channels, and none of them seem to limit themselves on what horror they view, or at least they don't make a big deal about it publicly.
because boundaries are cool even if it’s my job. also it’s like 30 movies I think there’s lots of other movies to watch 🤷♀️
I dont blame you for not watching certain horror movies im a huge horror fan and im the same way. Lots of gore and stuff is just meh to me personally stuff with lots of abuse is also just overdone i feel. I just discovered your channel and im glad i did because my list of horror movies to watch has grown quite a bit so thank you for that.
The scene in when evil lurks was hard to watch so good for passing on it. Set boundaries!
I will have to agree with you on Terrifier 3, I really do enjoy the other 2 movies but they are kinda my limit as far as gore goes and I'm also chill with kids getting killed in horror but with the way that art the clown kills if he does end up killing the girl in the way he kills I just don't think I can handle that.
In Gaspar Noe's "CLIMAX" there was a scene supposed death scene of a child. I think if a film maker can push boundaries and get as close to a snuff film as possible, he can add a sense of realism to his film. I was actually disappointed in CLIMAX when it was only a shot of the dead child. Never a scene where the boy actually gets electrocuted. It's never AS graphic, just close to it. I feel that if a film can truly shock, it tends to have a ripple effect into the future. Things about it are still discussed over and over.
THANK YOU for talking about The House That Jack Built! This is the first horror movie I was looking forward to based on others’ reviews and I could not finish it. I got half an hour in, felt like it was going nowhere and was so brutal towards women for no good reason. Made my skin crawl in the worst way.
You're not missing anything with When evil lurks
Art the Clown has already killed children! He kills two of them in All Hallow's Eve and it happened out of camera! I feel like people in twitter are speaking about the new teaser and they should watch the franchise first...
Anyway good video! I think boundaries are natural and compely normal, it wouldn't make sense to watch something you would struggle with
It’s good to have boundaries. I refused to watch The Passion of Jesus Christ after I read a media review warning those who were going to see it. The Pale Girl may return in Terrifier 3 I’m looking forward to seeing it.
A kid gets killed in JAWS. Michael Myers kills a kid in Halloween 18.
I regretted watching Titane😭 I don’t know why that movie disturbed me so much. When evil lurks felt like an evil dead homage(I think that’s what the director intended)
I can’t imagine they can pull off Art the Clown killing a baby, unless it’s not graphic at all and maybe just implied. I’ll definitely be looking it up before watching. I watched The House Jack Built, I wish I hadn’t. I didn’t need some of those images in my head. Don’t ever listen to the comments saying “you’re not a real horror fan” listen to your gut, it’s probably right.
Have you watched “The Dead Don't Die” It’s a horror comedy, but I was just curious, because I thought that movie was pretty dark/dim, but there were a lot of scenes that I found very funny! Nothing too flattering though, it’s more low budget and set in a small town, but starred a handful of famous actors. 🖤
Yes, and if you understand that movie, you will understand When Evil Lurks.
Art the Clown wishes all of you a Merry Christmas and looks forward to visiting you,,, 🎄
I appreciate you sharing this information sooo much. I also have strong boundaries when it comes to SA and it doesn't even need to be the horror genre. I have been caught off guard a few times in my life by movies, and it makes me incredibly nauseous. I love the horror genre, but to me that isn't great writing and is just a cop-out to make people feel uneasy.
Terrifier killed children in “All Hallows Eve” so it’s not like he has not done it before. I just hope it’s not done overly disgustingly like his victims in the second movie.
I watched this video after watching another where the host praised Saw X. An interesting contrast and up/down of willful ignorance.
There's a longer version of the trailer, where we see Art, covered in presumably the kid's blood, enjoying Christmas cookies and a glass of milk. I think it's definitely a marketing stunt and not even in the movie
If seeing Art the Clown go after children is a boundary, then you really won’t want to watch him in All Hallow’s Eve (2013).
I'm not sure if you've done this, but it'd be cool to see the movies you like/enjoy that you'd THINK we wouldn't expect.
I personally dont think there should be limits in horror, putting limits on a directors creativeness is flat out censorship and censorship is a big no no in my book. I say, like you have said....if you dont like it and its going over the line then simply dont watch it.
People seem to forget Art killed a child pretty gruesomely in All Hallows Eve. He's not above that
Nooo I love Happy Death Day for how dumb it is 😂
The Terrifier 3 controversy is a bit of a head scratcher. Children getting killed in horror movies has been a thing going back to Frankenstein (1931) if not earlier. Seems a little late for people to be clutching the pearls over that particular taboo.
Soft and Quiet...ugh. I went in knowing next to nothing about it. It was so fucking disgusting and sick. I wish I hadn't watched it. Not for blood and guts, but the horrific racist, white-supremicy abuse and violence. And yes, the SA scene. Don't go in blind lime I did.
The teaser for the upcoming Terrifier movie is just that. A teaser. Probably not going to be in the finished film.
I know you're not a fan of spoof/ comedy horror movies, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil excluded! But I've enjoyed Scary Movie with The Wayans Brothers. That's the only other along with Tucker & Dale I love.
I saw Terrifier out of curiosity and wish I hadn't! Lol! No way am I watching the sequels.
I honestly don't see the hype in When Evil Lurks. It was okay around the first part of the movie but it got really boring after the 50% of the movie. I also felt like it was kind of ableist 🤷
I will not watch all the Hostel movies , all the Terrifier movies , Maniac , The Devils , there are more . American Horror , Delicate is a Rosemary's Baby story . The Nightingale just doesn't appeal to me , The House That Jack Built doesn't appeal to me either
titane is just so so so good and it's not graphic or disturbing
I'm not a parent yet but i am very very sensitive when watching films and i of course thought the things happening in "when evil lurks" were bleek af, but it was so supported by the context that it didn't feel disturbing for the sake of beeing. Also the way the director handled tension is the reason why i love horror so it was super fun. It's the first time i literally cover my eyes In anticipation of what could happen and what actually happened. So i would say you just need a big hoodie to cover your eyes every once in a while and you are good
When Evil Lurks was not as disturbing in that sense, it was unsettling but it wasn’t like Art the clown killing a child disturbing, if you know what I mean without spoiling anything
PLEEAASEEE DO A BOOKSHELF TOUR
as if that first one is the first time there was a child victim wtf????????????????////
Though I enjoy horror movies to a certain extent. I do ask on why do people enjoy films like Terrifier with its graphic violence aimed that people find it to entertain - and why do people make films like this!
I wonder your thought’s and feelings about Rosemary’s baby after being pregnant. My guess is if you liked the movie beforehand it might be tolerable because it is an older movie?
Horror has no boundaries……wow your third video on horror movies you will not watch. The thing about horror is that it’s shocking and wants to shock you and when it scares or shock….it’s doing the job
I don’t really think that horror is for you TBH
Imo it's normal to have boundaries in general, for example you won't have sex with every single person that offers, you will avoid the 3rd piece of pie, you will not go over a certain speed with your car etc. That does not mean you do not like sex, pie or speed, it simply means you know when to stop in order to keep having a good time!
Yeah I don’t understand why everyone was so excited about The Sadness.
Soft & Quiet is definitely intense with a realistic feel - there's nothing too graphic but the situation is horrific. It's kind of like Compliance - painful to watch by its situation and implications. I think it's decently done but really wouldn't recommend it to many people
For Terrifier 3, are y’all forgetting that he literally murdered 2 children in All Hallow’s Eve?
Even if it happens what's the deal? What's the difference? All his other victims were innocent just as much. Dying is just the same
In defense of the Nightingale, it is a really beautiful movie about 2 people who are thrown away by society finding catharsis with each other, but the SA is very graphic and if that's a hard no for you very understandable. It's not a trigger for me, but I can definitely say it is very VERY graphic. Like worse than Game of Thrones.
Have I got a movie for you!
Soft and quiet is a very hard watch
Dont think art killing a child is really a suprise because he did it in all hallows eve
Titane IS graphic. It's not bloody, but the way they show it is VERY disturbing. It's still a pretty great movie but yeah, I won't recommend it to anyone.
Also, Sadness is good. It's a very different "zombie" movie, but again, I WON'T recommend it to anyone. (I personally was very excited for it lol)
Also, Sharknado is peak cinema.
I adore zombieland for instance but agree that parodies, comedy & horror (or most modern comedy tbh) usually are not my thing
soft & quiet is a disgusting movie. i don’t understand why it was made or why the actresses agreed to be in it. just seems like they wanted an excuse to use horrible racist language. the SA wasn’t explicitly shown but the moments directly before it are and the audio is still there. that’s the grossest i’ve ever felt while/after watching a movie. good idea to stay away from it
The only thing that really upsets me is… I feel bad for child actors in general who basically show up to perform some kind of gratuitous “shock value” sequence and that’s it. Even if that sequence is saying something embarrassing in an Adam Sandler movie, it really bothers me. BUT if they’re given some time on screen to actually DO something, like something they can add to their portfolio, I’m okay with it. Damien Leone hints that Art the clown’s little girl sidekick is the spirit of one of his victims, so I suppose he could do something similar with the little girl in Terrifier 3, but only time will tell.
For a horror fan, you're pretty tame and refuse to watch a lot of good movies. Also, When evil lurks is argentinian, not spanish. You should watch it!
Would you ever do a video of movies you used to love/rewatch that you feel you can’t anymore? Or movies you wanted to rewatch but are having a hard time? I loved pet semetary the book and movie but after having my son I can’t even think about it and I wonder if you have any movies/books like that.
You're not missing anything with The House That Jack Built. It's not even disturbing, just an absolute misogynist slog.
that was honestly my impression anyways
Terrifier 3 "we don't know if that happens yet." Obviously it doesn't matter. Its a movie, nothing ACTUALLY happens, its all implication-- and this is the type of film to imply it, and communicate to you that its a fun experience to entertain the idea of your favorite supernatural killer clown murdering children onscreen.
Thanks for normalizing not having to watch every single horror movie to be a “true horror fan” ps your hair looks amazing 🖤
Yeah nobody has to watch anything, as long as we're having fun with what we watch it's all that matters.
Though personally I do really enjoy watching as many different films as I can, not to prove any childish horror fan validation thing. But just because I genuinely enjoy watching loads of stuff.
sorry you aren't a TRUE horror fan if you are too scared to watch certain movies
"oh no racial language" smh
@@MikeG82I get where you’re coming from, Horror is about testing the limits after all. But I mean, if you have certain traumas associated with specific situations (SA, suicide, etc) then I mean, why put yourself through that.
@@tristensingh7830 And here I thought watching horror movies was about having fun. If you enjoy testing your limits, then great (I do, too), but not everyone does, and no one is "not a 'true' horror fan" just because they want to watch movies they know they'll enjoy, and avoid movies there pretty sure they won't.
@MikeG82 it’s not about being too scared. Not all horror sub-genre’s are for everyone. For example I find exorcism movies kinda boring and I never jumped on the Terrifier train 🤷🏻♀️. If something doesn’t interest you it’s ok not to watch it
as an argentinian horror fan i’m super excited to see how well “when evil lurks” is doing!!
here in argentina we have many talented film makers but horror has always been overlooked in some way or another, so it’s great to see how it grows!
i myself haven’t watched the movie yet because of how disturbing it seems but was waiting for you to talk about it since i love your channel so much and it prides me to see an argentinian film make it internationally.
great video as always, hope you’re doing well!
Me encantaría ver la película en el cine pero vivo en san martin, Buenos Aires, y no hay cine cerca. Lo más cerca es en capital. Un garrón.
tremenda pero es buenisima, si no me equivoco está en stremio
I can see both sides on When Evil Lurks. On one hand, I actually watched the movie and I thought it was very well made. It is an extremely graphic examination of how evil evil can be. Nothing is safe from it.
On the other hand, since it is so brutal and uncompromising in its vision, I can easily understand why there are people who wouldn’t want to see it. It’s not a film for everyone.
Argentinians really love horror! That's why there are many old germans there
I’m from México and I absolutely loved the movie. I’m not that gory (not that I think this one is THAT gory), but it had me on the edge of my bed. The suspense, intrigue, the demonic part, the biohazard risk, and the family trauma allegory, it felt just so complete.
Having boundaries is SO important in media. A lot of people like to debate your authenticity as a horror fan if there are certain subjects you don't want to engage with and I think you putting this out there does so much good for the community.
It does not harm the horror community for individuals to have boundaries. I personally won’t watch pregnancy horror, but there’s thousands of people out there who will, so those movies will still be made. It’s not bad to have preferences lol
Yep. I don’t like classic slashers and get hate on all the time. I didn’t grow up watching horror so now, especially since saw was my first horror experience and now own and frequently watch the terrifier movies, i just get bored and the plot is so practical
I don't have boundaries when it comes to horror movies. If other people do, that's their business. I have certain friends I watch the crazy stuff with. Some I don't. There isn't a horror movie I won't watch and I've seen some of the craziest shit ever. But how it's presented is what makes the difference. I find movies like Schindler's List and especially Come and See (1985) far more disturbing.
So much this. I had to leave the Horror fan subreddit because I was getting harassed and attacked so often just for saying that stuff like Hostel isn't really my bag and that I watch horror movies for fun (not the bragging rights that come with having sat though something I personally find gross). It's pretty sad to see that this is what the horror fan community has degenerated into. It used to be a fertile ground for filmmakers and audiences to enjoy and experiment with new filmmaking techniques, plot devices, or cinematography styles. Now it seems like it's been taken over by the same asshole fanboys that gatekeep too many other genres. Ugh. As you said, having boundaries and protecting your mental well-being is VERY important and applies to what media we consume as much as anything else we take in.
@@ferox965 How nice for you. But having boundaries in the media we consume is actually healthy. It kind of says something though when it requires ever more increasingly graphic doses of gore to satisfy that urge. I'd venture to say that if things like Shindler's List are too disturbing for you, you might want to reasses your media consumption habits. Shindler's List is based on real events of tremendous consequence for all human beings and is far and away more critical viewing than Terrifier 3.
I have to say...when evil lurks has set the bar really high for me from here on out. Not just with the gore and shocking scenes but with the atmosphere, the slow burns, not having jump scares every 5 seconds, you really feel helpless watching it. It is the best horror I've seen since the original exorcist when I was a teenager.
the fact that the horror starts right away (in every movie i see you have to watch at least 30 min to get SOMETHING) and everything has a meaning, it's really really good as a movie in general, not just horror. i'm argentinian and i'm very proud of this movie, also it represents us sooo well (i don't know how they manage to translate it lol) ❤
I loved it and hated the main character. But the most horrific movies are foreign.
she is missing out big time.
It ain't THAT great wow havent see much horror I assume? Way better slow burns and all else you mentioned out there.
@@torillanos9837damn EVERY horror movie starts 30min in? Again you haven't watched much to claim that....
I will never get over how much I appreciate you for legitimizing those of us who don't like extreme gore and all that as "still real horror fans". I've always been more of a paranormal/psychological horror person and never liked the gore-fests. It's all horror, though - and it was always hard to hear people dismiss those of us who just like a different kind of horror. You're a real one, and I love your videos!
Freaky was absolutely amazing. One of my very fave horror films of the last decade. I am also not a huge fan of horror comedy but Freaky was a total blast.
even as a 20-something non-parent, i still find it hard to watch movies where children are hurt/murdered. i'm in the same
boat as you as to where I don't think it should be off-limits for children to die in horror, but I do think it has to be intergral to the story and not extremely graphic. hereditary is a good example of this (although pretty graphic).
also i personally dont think cabin in the woods is a horror comedy, i think its s horror movie with comedic relief lol esp in comparison to freaky and happy death day
I would say a quiet place is a better example because it happens off screen and you Don’t see anything, it’s just heavily implied and leads the plot from there.
@@ml8452 what a boring take. That scene was barely impactful imo - lets not put movies in boxes.
@@kbucket okay? Your opinion, I stand by mine. No need to be rude.
Me (not a parent) am so excited about Terrifier 3 but it’s super valid for anyone to not watch a movie for whatever the reason. You’re not a bad person for enjoying a movie someone else finds uncomfortable and you’re a bad person for shaming someone for refusing to watch a movie
Yeah but Terrifier is like the saturday morning cartoons of horror. Its so like not scary at all and the kid violence is all like super fake. I dont know seems dumb if you actually watch it.
@@Digglerism to you
I watched the first one and have been so afraid to watch the second one 😅 and I saw the first one back when it first released. the gore is just so over the top and definitely too much for me but I wanna try watching the second one at some point!
Yea it's totally super valid
Same and a mom of 3 I concur
i can’t recommend the podcast “too scary; didn’t watch” enough for those of us that don’t like horror but are still morbidly curious or those of us with a low tolerance for certain things or strong boundaries!
I love how open you are about your boundaries and why you won’t watch certain movies. I wish there were more people like you in the horror community.
I wish there was less. What kind of horror fan can't watch a horror film?
@@scaryperi3051 not all horror movies worth your time 🤷🏻♀️
@@alisondilaurentis13 That's not what I meant. I meant due to content alone, not quality.
@@scaryperi3051 that’s a really stupid question. no horror fan has to watch every single horror movie in existence. it’s just a genre, and you can like the genre without liking the content of certain films. you can be a food lover and not like every single dish.
@@kphoria1009 Yes, that would have been a stupid question -- good thing I never asked that question but instead asked the one I in fact asked.
As a teacher and a parent, I can safely say that "Soft and Quiet" is really good because it is so real in terms of the radicalization of "normal" people that it portrays. Don't let the warnings keep you from watching it, it's more akin to something like "Falling Down".
When Evil lurks is like Hereditary just a little gorier. It's not the gore that's disturbing, it's the atmosphere and anxiety of everything you thought was going happen to totally do a 180.
When Evil Lurks is a lot closer to the Evil Dead 2013 and The Sadness ( minus the ...ya know..) than it would be Hereditary.
Yes. Just more infuriating
I wouldn’t say it was as scary as Hereditary. More shocking though
Am i the only one who didn't find When Evil Lurks disturbing or shocking? Especially compared to something like The Sadness. I agree with the Evil Dead comparison. The only disturbing thing about When Evil Lurks is that they kill kids. Hereditary was disturbing because it's grounded. When Evil Lurks exists in a fantasy world with specific rules that everyone knows.
For me as a Terrifier fan, my opinion on the whole discourse is simply people are allowed to want to watch the film it doesn't make them bad people and people are allowed to not want to watch the film as long as you aren't judging people for their choice who cares. I don't particularily want Art to kill the kid but without sounding like a freak I personally will still be seeing the film regardless.
I also liked the Terrifier movies. The extremity of how gory they are feels so ridiculous and over the top to me that it makes it entertaining. Hardly remember the lore and storyline, though. I remember being confused about it by the end of Terrifier 2. I was just along for the ride. I get that it’s not for everyone and nobody *has* to watch them. Nobody has to watch anything they don’t want to.
Also I’m loving your american mary pfp 😎
I’m interested in the character of Art the Clown, but not at all in seeing the films. Like I’ll go as far as watching the (censored) Terrifier Kill Counts but I’ll never watch the actual films. Weirdly I feel like I’d be fine with all the Terrifier scenes if they were books. I know the gore is the selling point but I just can’t watch some of those scenes.
@@bunchoflemons that's fair, honestly the only reason I do watch the Terrifier movies is for Art, I'm not usually one for intense amounts of gore in horror films but I just love Art as a character.
Horror fans having a moral compass on what is acceptable and what isn’t in horror movies is always a weird take. As long as actors aren’t being abused on set I don’t see the difference between any kind of kills in a movie. Like how is an animal death worse or better than a human dead, same with children. Everyone can have their limits but anyone being killed should be a bad thing unless it’s in self defense.
Terrifier fans will watch women being brutally tortured and mutilated which is very weird because the men always get quick kills in comparison to the women, but a kid is where the line is drawn.
When Evil Lurks is from Argentina not Spain
and is phenomenal 😭
Ugh LOVE to see a woman in the horror world stating what she will and will not watch without shame. It wasn't too long ago we couldn't do that because we were the token woman in a man's world and we had to prove we were serious/hardcore/whatever enough to get even a crumb of respect. There are so many things in horror that are just too horrifying if you've ever experienced it in any capacity. Most straight cis-men (though certainly some) have not had to grapple with the horrors of SA and motherhood in the way many AFAB people have. Of course they can tolerate something they're removed from. Anyway, thank you for making this content with confidence.
I refuse to watch ‘biblical/exorcism’ movies. They’ve been remaking the exorcist for so long now it’s ridiculous.
Agreed. They make me uncomfortable, call me a wuss, but they just do.
Me too. I’m not repulsed by the concept of anything, I’m just so bored of it.
@@madam-mint It's bc possession is real and what is to come is going to be worse
I've seen THE NIGHTINGALE and honestly, it's not even really a horror film. Yes, there's SA near the beginning, but I wouldn't call that the focus on the movie. The majority of the film is a quest that deals with Australia's racial history.
I think the Terrifier 3 thing will be a bait and switch and he doesn't harm the child and the blood we do see is someone else's blood (like the parents as you were suggesting) as both scenes are out of context
i think this, too.
Or at most it will be implied rather than explicitly seen
As a fellow Argentinian follower I appreciate you giving "When Evil Lurks" a shout-out because we're really trying to get Argentina to make more horror movies because they did an amazing job. This movie isn't AS bad as you would think but it does have..some disturbing images. They go by pretty quickly but they leave an impression. My dad doesn't do dead kids in movies it's a hard limit for him so I told him not to watch it, he was very grateful. however, it does have an AMAZING storyline, photography, sound design and score. Such a win for me I loved it. If any of you are on the fence about watching it, please consider seeing it and supporting Argentinean horror cinema
Loved it! I’m not Argentinian but as a Latina I kinda felt proud of the awesome job they did. It is now one of my faves and I’m looking forward to seeing more Argentinian horror
@@mabetgc i suggest “Aterrados” it’s the previous movie of this same director 😊
Definitely! Next one on my list 👌🏼
