Henry Threadgill's recent autobiography "Easily Slip Into Another World" is INCREDIBLE.

Agree with you about ticket prices and bars. Drunken people swaying about, talking loudly, and worse. Pleased to hear that I'm not the only one bored by soloing. I want to hear the whole group, that's why I came out to see them play. Cheers.

I've seen Joshua Abrams twice, once just him with a saxophone player, and once billed as Natural Information Society (a bunch of musicians with interesting instruments including an accordion/pipe organ thing).
I love his string instrument (forget the name of it) Very resonant and beautiful sound in concert
Definitely droning and free music at times, and thoroughly captivating

Good Morning Dereck, Yes Max Telmark is one of the giants in current cosmology. I also like and I submit for your approval: Professor of Theoretical Physics Jim Al-Khalili. He has narrated many outstanding Science Documentaries, such as: "Everything and Nothing", "Atom", "Chemistry A Volatile History". Robert Hook, the first person to study up-close the Microscopic World, with the publication of his tome Micrographia in 1665. Also the Documentary "Light Fantastic" presented by Professor Simon Schaffer, who's field of study is History and Science, is also an important visual work people should view. Max Telmark, Alan Guth, and many other current cosmologists, believe that we are living in a multi universe, and our observable universe is much smaller than the Unobservable universe. Stay safe and go well.

Neil Young's Reactor was written for his severely disabled son, who had autism. It's very good and worth a serious second and third listen. It's a fun album to play along with.

Interesting Cro Magnon story, most likely no connection to the Cro Mags. I would love to hear what Harley Flannigan would think of those guys.

That Cromagnon album is wild. Not everything on that album works but when it does work it's incredible stuff. "Caledonia" and "First World of Bronze" are my favorite tracks.

Wolfram is into cellular automata, which i find beautiful, and is used in music. He has a melody generating machine on his website.

Hey Dereck, I am going to pull that TRIANGLE LP so I can listen to it again in the near future. I do remember I like it, but forget what it sounds like except that it is totally different then their " LAUGH LAUGH " era. That is one of the most funny lp photo shoot story I have ever heard. Take care Dereck

I have several Henry Threadgill albums, but haven't gotten any in several years. I don't have the one you showed, but a couple of earlier Air, a couple of Very Very Circus (Nuff Nuff, Too Much Sugar), Easily Slip into Another World, Where's Your Cup?. Unfortunately I don't see very many of his discs in the wild anymore. I know you don't care for blues, but Threadgill's "I Can't Wait Till I Get Home" (written by Olu Dara) is about as powerful and intense as the genre will ever get.
I'm also a big fan of Cassandra Wilson. Everyone's clamouring about Beyonce's cover of "Blackbird" recently, like there's significance in the gesture itself, and I've been trying to steer people to all of the other Black women who have done (better) covers of the song, like Wilson's on her Silver Pony, as well as Sarah Vaughn, Dionne Farris, Rene Marie, Corrine Bailey Rae, etc. There's an awful lot of music that gets shoved under the rug so these new pop stars can act like they did it first.

I still can't play Heart Of Gold properly, that's a tricky one to begin with.
There seems to be a lot of lost people who want things to get worse through politics because their own lives are in turmoil. Those of us that treasure and have worked hard for what we have would never jeopardise it.

I'll check out the Caledonia album. There are a few examples of bands/musicians doing certain styles long before the specific style became established. The band Fanny Adams that was doing grunge/alternative back in '71-72. Lucifer's Friend was doing speed metal in 1970. Yet nobody credits these groups as innovative.

Some trivia about Sal Valentino. He went on to form the somewhat derivative Stoneground.
They DID, however, appear in the Hammer Film Dracula 1972AD and are seen playing 2 songs in the Party Scene towards the beginning of the film, which is a fun watch 👍

Dereck, I did a experiment with your cds, I listened to both at the same time, it was the muse and woven territories. I used my five speakers. Sound system and a ghetto blaster, it came out 7 different sounds, have you tried this at all.

Life here in Madison is progressive. New bus routes, upcoming public market, strong housing coalitions, and talk of another new library location based on city growth and needs!
