Thank you Dereck! May Mike Pinder rest in peace. Way back my friends and I decided one summer day to just jump in the car and go camping up and down Florida. Within a hour we were on the way. We managed to bring everything but forgot our “tapes”! We didn’t have any extra money to buy anything but on the floor I saw one, it was the Moody Blues live plus five… that’ll do😁
Aw man.. Pinder. What a loss. My favorite Moody. Last night, I was recording with the band and we were putting down a Mellotron track. I mentioned Pinder and how he revolutionized the instrument. Then I watched your video this morning. Crazy timing. Thinking is the best way to travel, thanks Michael.
The Moody Blues literally saved my life. I've istened to their music just about every day since 1972. Had the thrill of meeting Mike Pinder, Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge on several occasions. RIP Mike. You have made the world a better and more beautiful place.
Hello Dereck, i feel the same about this band, up there as one of my all time favourites! The words the music, and Mike`s songs were all stand out quality. Childrens, Children`s Children is a personal favourite too. Thank you for this tribute, in memory of Mike.
The Moody Blues what a fantastic band. Seventh Sojourn was one of my favorite albums. The core 7 albums ( 1967- 1972) the music and lyrics are so deep. You could put on a good pair of headphones and just escape from your problems. Listening to the Moody Blues with your eyes closed was so peaceful. There is no other group that comes close to their sound. Mike Pinder rest in Peace.
Hey Dereck, If I am correct there are only 2 Moodies left on this earth. For me it was always a very special experience listening to a new MOODY BLUES LP for the first time. Always positive vibes coming from their music and lyrics. QUESTION OF BALANCE will always be my favorite. I always felt if every citizen of the world listened to the last track THE BALANCE and let the lyrics sink in and proceeded to live those lyrics it would change things. Wishful thinking on my part. Take care Dereck
😢I absolutely dug Mike Pinder as a part of the Moodies😢sadddned but yes we are getting there...RIP MIKE🙏🏻✨ i was just thinking about the line...never thought id live to be a 100, then a millon...and the insight the song speaks of, i saw em 4 times 2 in the 70s and the last was 2011 and they were still kickin it!!
Mike Pinder's A Simple Game was one of their greatest songs, and it was a b-side! They were producing so much great stuff that they could just throw this away, but it's still one of my favourite songs of the 60s. They were a great band but I couldn't listen to their post-Pinder work.
Yes, the two Henry Franklin (aka "The Skipper") albums on the Black Jazz label are great. Plenty of groove. The Moody Blues also got me through some depressing lonely times at college. Perfect music for chilling out late at night with coffee or a drink. I loved Mike Pinder's songs and his mellotron and voice.
Love how raw and real you put things. You give it to us like talking amongst friends, telling your personal connection to the moody blues is really commendable
I saw them at the Arena in St. Louis in 71. It was my first date with my now wife, a night I’ll never forget. The thing about wearing things until they wear out. You wear things over and over again and just when they conform to your body and begin to feel good, they get the first hole and it’s down hill from there. I have a couple sweaters I keep in the shop that are past their life but when it’s chilly I’ll put one on for warmth and a reminder it was with me in an earlier time of my life. Long live Mike Pinder, a gentleman and a gentle man. Come back soon.
Good evening Dereck. i've knowned about Mike Pinder's death for over 24 hours now From Australia Tasmania. The moody blues also saved my life of depression, Attempts of suicide too.I've got paranoia Schizophrenia. seen them in concert first Australian tour 1984 and 1987 with my parents and have met them Also 2005 and 11.11.2011. Justin Hayward solo concert on october 19 2017 at SYDNEY State theatre.
I just found out about Mike. I worked with a British woman that went to high school with Mike. She said he was a teddy boy. I played a mellotron, no one played it better than Pinder. He was dubbed the king of the mellotron. Saw them live with Mike in 1972 with Mike. RIP Mike.
Hey Dereck, RIP Mike. Definitely a touchstone group for many, 'charting high' in the heart of the individual listener, most importantly. Some years ago when visiting friends in AZ, they bought a new stereo and I played 'Flyover' to test it with. Yes, a testament to your production and they dug it too. ☺ Lovely Terje...been revisiting the first Chaser album a lot lately. Much love as ever. -Carm
Brother I'm choking up a bit because I feel the same way about Moode music, especially the albums that you Mentioned. This was the music that I loved 2 listen 2 privately, I don't think the brothers would have understood!😂
Thanks again for sharing your music, showing music from your collection and your thoughts in general. I agree that a lack of common sense and consideration is at epidemic levels. As with your neighbors, one can all too often find other examples in our daily lives. Insane road rage incidents where people are getting shot, etc. WTF? Cheers, John
A friend is into a genra called " harsh noise" . Not a lot turns me off musically (when it's done well) but it burns my heart up when I hear it like modern radio country and rap. He performs it as well as selling cd's and 7" ...there's something for everyone out there. I don't think he will retire from selling his merchandise but he sure invests in it
Thanks for always keeping us in the loop, family, friends, neighbors and yes.....new house shoes!!! Hahaha I just glued my soles back together, cause they are so broke in and comfortable 😳😁🙏🏻✨🎶take care D👋🏻
Thanks for the Mummies & Madmen CD plug again. Cannot say everything we release sells too well, but I'm fortunate to have enough supporters to at least recover costs over a few months, plus do loads of trades and have distribution. I use social media and have an extensive mailing list, too. More recently, as you know, I've been promoting the YT channel more as well. It all helps. M&M is a joint release, so Alan also part-funded this CD. I push everything released as hard as I can and am hands-on with everything from replying to emails to packing orders and going to the post office pretty much daily. I guess it adds up to my somehow surviving!
@@dereckvon @dereckvon I still make time for my family, dog/cats, friends, reading, music, films and podcasts, plus my teaching job only takes up 20 hours a week. Not breaking into a huge sweat here!
Listening a lot to The Skipper since his passing...every time I see something on that label I tend to pick it up..from my view, Black Jazz releases are usually pretty amazing...have a good day...cheers
I love your choices, your chat and your reasoning. It’s all a matter of taste isn’t it? I love that you remind us of that. De Gustibus Non Est Disputandum!
Underated within the musis industry, dont understand why?,its as though a # of people like them but dont admit it!, they have never seen themselves as celebrities, just got on with the music, thats what really counts!.
You're spot on with that discussion regarding being honest with people. I'm 53 and it does seem that it's harder to be honest and direct with people, because they're younger? Its a level of hypersensitivity that's just uncalled for. Simply put, people are so easily offended over direct honesty. Stop the madness! Oh, and I meant to ask, did you ever consider early on, horn playing? ✌️
Sorry you're having to deal with bad neighbours, yeah, seems fairly common in this world... I know that feeling. Be careful as the other user said, I know I'm behind on your videos.
It sounds like a joke, but I believe that Moody Blues is an underated band. I like to add also that the R.A.F. demo tape wich I bought from bandcamp digitally is phenomenal for the time it was released. Hardcore punk with more UK influence than American.
Hi and good morning sir. Cheers. I am so pleased to hear of another Moody Blues fan . I was hoping you could answer a question. As a musician perhaps you would know why almost all Moody Blues lps sound echoed and tinny....no lows . Is it engineering on purpose so the music sounds ethereal? Or poor recording.?
Thank you Dereck! May Mike Pinder rest in peace.

Damn sad to hear. The Moody Blues are my "spiritual connection " to MaNature, which gives life. Absolutely love their first 7 studio releases.😊❤
I agree 100% - 'To Our Children's Children's Children' is my all-time favorite album. Only 2 Moodies are left. Sad.
Me too
And me

It’s sad when you can’t confront your neighbours. Stay safe Dereck! ❤❤
Dereck Higgins Live @ LOW END Had to watch your concert tonight on youtube
The Beauty of the Music...No doubt Beatles and Moody Blues are two sides of the same médaille. Huge! RIP Mike!
Yes, the two Henry Franklin (aka "The Skipper") albums on the Black Jazz label are great. Plenty of groove.

Just discovered your channel- Mike Pinder - I really like what you have to say about everything in general. You now have another subscriber.

Great start!

That Henry Franklin album is soooo good. Yes yes yes!
Hi Dereck, Terje Rypdal is an amazing musician and composer. Jeff Beck liked him a lot. I have all of his records.🎶🎸
I love your choices, your chat and your reasoning. It’s all a matter of taste isn’t it? I love that you remind us of that. De Gustibus Non Est Disputandum!
The Voyager is a great album by the Moody Blues, truly enjoy this album!!

It was early days. People were still learning how to record properly.
I completely agree, terrible sounding compared to modern recording technics. Still dug the 1st seven studio releases especially. 😊❤
