    I’m a former prisoner. I know what it’s like to have everything taken away. Prison is the most satanic place on earth. It’s a very selfish environment. I pray Orthodox Christian’s are prepared for prisons.

      I take a bus an hour twice a week to go to Liturgy and Cathrchism. Maybe more than an hour often I leave at 7:30 and get back past 2pm.
      If you want it God gives a way. Take it all as a joy.

    The line between tradition and idolitry is a fine line. Unfortunately ethnicity and language can become an idol with evangelism being the casualty. I was joyful to discover that an Orthodox church had opened in a neighboring community. It is Ukrainian Orthodox. I went to see. I was greated by a large Ukrainian flag flying over the doorway, Inside there were no pews. All the women wore babushkas and they never took off their coat. The priest didn't speak one word of English and if I wanted to talk to him I had to go through an interpreter. I didn't stay to the end and I probably won't go back. I lose the chance to attend an Orthodox church close to home because "tradition" has become an idol to be worshipped.

    Now that Eastern Orthodox Christianity is party of the USA. My question is this, does the Eastern Orthodox Christian faith have to get involved with American politics such as voting for a candidate for political office? Whether it's Democrat or Republican. I have a friend of mine who's a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and a advocate for former President Donald J. Trump. However, I think some Eastern Orthodox Christians in America would rather not have anything to do with American politics. I remember when I was at a Greek Orthodox Church in the south end of Hartford CT, the Orthodox priest encouraged the parishioners to remain focused on their Christian faith and pay no attention to American politics and their views.

    • @OrthodoxWisdom
      @OrthodoxWisdom  3 роки тому +7

      The Church is eternal and exists for the salvation of souls. In no way is it necessary for men to be “involved” in politics per se. We are often rightly discouraged from supporting particular candidates, and much less particular parties. However, when politics begins to over step its boundaries and attempts to dictate the inner life of the Church, then I believe we are obligated to be aware and resist such things. This is true whether Democrat, republican, libertarian, Green Party, or other parties and governmental systems. St. Paisios says that in today’s world Orthodox Christians are not loving if they are not aware and engaged in supporting the Church and that today this includes the political realm since politics have become more and more involved in the life of Christians and the inner life of the Church. Look for that teaching from St. Paisios, consider the recording I did by I. M. Andreyev, and more. I think we are free to engage with politics but it’s not without it traps and temptations. Above all, we must not turn a blind eye to our suffering brother and the purity and holiness of the inner life of the Church.

      I see. My next question is this. Do you believe in Separation of church and state? In October last year, former President Trump nominated Amy Coney Barret to the supreme court because of her Roman Catholic Christian views and her conservative views as well. Various Democratic Senators such as Diane Feinstein questioned her views and beliefs. Senator Feinstein said that Dogma and law are two different things and said the dogma lives loudly in her. My other question is this, can you be a serious Christian and serve in the federal government? Please let me know what your answer is.

    • @OrthodoxWisdom
      @OrthodoxWisdom  3 роки тому +7

      My understanding is that the Church is most favorable towards monarchy but does not officially endorse one specific type of government, except that government where Christ is King. The double headed eagle is a classic eastern Roman Empire symbol that I’m not able to explain as well as I would like. However, the double headed eagle represents a symphonia, or a synergy, of Church and State. This doesn’t mean that the Church submits her freedom to the State, but rather that the ideal is for Church and State to both be obedient to Christ together. While there may be some similarities, I don’t believe this is very similar to the American virtue of separation of Church and State. That is a starting point to understand the double headed eagle. With this in mind it seems evident that democracy and socialism have no place in an Orthodox society. There can be no symphonia if the Church is obedient to Christ but the State is constantly full of pluristic and contradictory ideals, or obviously ideals that are atheistic or agnostic in nature. A democracy is always warring against itself from within and oneness of mind is impossible by design.
      I believe it’s theoretically possible for a faithful Orthodox Christian to serve in the federal government, as an elected official or high-ranking unelected official, but the realistic possibilities are incredibly low. The corruption in our governance, elected and unelected, is beyond measure and it’s hard to imagine a person rising to these high positions in governance by faithfully obeying Christ’s commandments.

    Very beautiful but let us not forget the following information.
    Today the Old and Authentic ROCOR is the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCA) that was formed in 1920 by bishops who were forced to leave their homeland along with millions of Russian people, all fleeing the horrors of the communist system. The ROCA bishops, clergy, and laity remain loyal to the original mission of an independent ROCA.
    Despite protests from within the ranks of bishops, clergy, and laypeople, on May 17, 2007, a large part of the ROCA entered into Eucharistic communion with the MP with the signing of the “Act of Canonical Communion” and is now known as the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR - MP). The Moscow Patriarchate (MP) and the current ROCOR-MP do need to repent of the heresies of Ecumenism and Sergianism.
    The smaller part of ROCA that chose to remain loyal to the historical Russian Orthodox Church and to continue the mission of the ROCA is not in Eucharistic communion with the Moscow Patriarchate (MP), the state-controlled official Russian Church.
    The Churches of the ROCA remnant are present today in the Diaspora District of ROCA. The list of Parishes is present on the rocana and auroca web sites. The ROCA Churches are located in Australia, New Zealand, St. Petersburg, as well as in the U.S. and Canada.
    For these who would like to understand more about the history of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCA) they can read the article "ROCA the Beacon Of Light" by Protopriest Nikita Grigoriev on the rocana web site.
    Also, we remember that the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCA) Council of Bishops in August 1983 in the person of its Metropolitan Philaret of New York (1903-1985), noting the extent of the Ecumenist contagion, issued an Anathema to Ecumenism in the straight line of the Holy Fathers, condemning anyone who participated in this heresy.
    When the Church pronounces anathema on a certain heresy, we must NOT forget that it is for eternity.
    Anathema to Ecumenism (1983)
    "To those who attack the Church of Christ by teaching that Christ’s Church is divided into so-called “branches” which differ in doctrine and way of life, or that the Church does not exist visibly, but will be formed in the future when all “branches” or sects or denominations, and even religions will be united into one body; and who do not distinguish the priesthood and mysteries of the Church from those of the heretics, but say that the baptism and eucharist of heretics is effectual for salvation; therefore, to those who knowingly have communion with these aforementioned heretics or who advocate, disseminate, or defend their new heresy of Ecumenism under the pretext of brotherly love or the supposed unification of separated Christians, Anathema!
    --- Note: The relics of Metropolitan Philaret of New York were found to be completely incorrupt in 1998.

    Perhaps my biggest issue with modern Orthodoxy is the notion that never is anything truly "good enough." Early in the video they talk about Orthodox youth who go to Protestant youth groups as a critique, I would submit to you that it is likely because the Orthodox are not offering anything for those youth and also they do not give enough credit to said Orthodox youth to being a conduit to non-orthodox in coming to Orthodoxy which they may have never had the ability to experience otherwise. I work 14 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week to simply get by and I try to utilize as much time as I have to embrace as much Orthodoxy as possible in my life as well as participate and my local Orthodox community. Taking advice from the saints is one thing but I think the temptation is that that advice will be used as a cudgel against those who are truly doing their best with what they have.

    • @OrthodoxWisdom
      @OrthodoxWisdom  Рік тому

      Do you have an experienced spiritual father? He can help guide you through these matters. Certainly neither he nor the saints want the truth to be a cudgel, but rather for it to help assist you where you are at now to go deeper in Christ.
