Thank you so much for posting this. I believe The Problem of Pain is one of Lewis’ greatest works. Having this audio version on UA-cam is a great resource. Much appreciated.
Some books mean so much more as one matures with age. This is definitely one of them. Read this at 20, then 40, then 70. And think you would know what I mean. Getting a lifetime dose of this world and having the inquiring mind all along.
My daily routine listening to and learning from the word of Our Lord saviour and salvation expanding my knowledge of the Gospel and scripture growing in grace wisdom understanding simple rule open your ears 👂 and listen to the wisdom of cs Lewis teaching whoever listens takes it in processes it acts on what you have learned amen 🙏
lol! I felt like that the first time reading this book as well. The problem of pain is a really heavy subject to grasp. It’s where we grapple with logic, emotions and the promises of God. The reality of pain intersects right in that space - moments where we see the reality of pain in the world…within our lives and ask the tough questions… “I know there’s evil in the world but, where is God in all of this? What about his promises? Is he doing something? Is he just standing by? Why am I..why are people going through this?” The fact is. Even when we get it, it goes over our heads…and that’s where faith comes in. It’s the catalyst that allows us to overcome the reality of tragedy, see a way into hope, so that even when we logically can’t find a way out of tragedy we can lean into Gods promises regardless and pull through.
When reason serves faith, there is always some gain to the glory of God and His purposes. Thus, some wisdom can be trully gained. Praise God. And mind conforms to our meaningful purposes of which we all benefit. And thus as made creatures and not self absorbed God players we find the greatest benefit from salvation in Christ. Christ is made our wisdom. Trully simplifies our place accordingly.
I think we all are" self absorbed" ... And at times " God players" . The deepest of evil and the root of selfishness. Most definitely a reason to become saved. Spiritual depravity as we cry out to God in the most selfish unrighteous panic for saving as a baby cries out for a bottle.
