- Documenting and playing Skystang I, Kurt Cobain's actual guitar. The mustang that was used at Nirvana's legendary Live and Loud performance, their very last show in 1994 and 50+ In Utero tour shows.
A thorough visual record and historical analysis of Kurt Cobain's most played Mustang, one of the most iconic guitars of all time. Every ding, scratch and mark. Nothing is overlooked.
HUGE shoutout to @juliensauctions , Chad Cobain and Earnie Bailey for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity. It was truly a dream come true, this day will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Nirvana Guitar what is you favorite Nirvana show I am I 10 year old who is a huge fan of you and Nirvana. I’ve always wanted a reply from you. You are my favorite UA-camr of all time. I am from Minnesota and still From:River Fath
You wouldn't happen to know anything about the tele that kurt used for a short stint in the Nevermind tour would you, i was just watching there gig in Australia in 1991 and it surprised me to see kurt playing a tele.
This is probably the highest peak any nirvana fan will ever reach 😭😭
I still can't believe that day was real 😭
This is true, only way to top this is playing a tribute concert with them
@@NirvanaGuitarsGood thing you recorded it!
You are lucky@@tencentpistol1
Right!
Literally the coolest video I've seen on YT in a long time. You played Skystang, met Earnie, and Dave and Pat, all in one day. So happy for you man. Legendary.
I look back and I'm like "that day wasn't real... was it?!" I still can't believe it! Thank you for watching and for the kind words 😊
@@NirvanaGuitars "Do you see someone truly skilled, and diligent, in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank." - Proverbs 22:29 (I emphasized it a little, but you get the idea.) *
If there's anyone else on all of UA-cam who is nailing the Nirvana tone like you are, I haven't seen them.
Any time from 2007 - 2019, I never really saw anyone trying to do tonally accurate covers. These seem to be a lot more recent, but I also wasn't watching every song cover that popped up.
I've also seen Hardly Ramone and Southern Version being into tonal accuracy, but with Ramones covers.
There's another thing here - you know how some tabs say "do this" or "do that" but they're on the wrong frets compared to the version they're tabbing? Yeah, that. How subtle accuracy is not present in all covers uploaded to YT, and sometimes the errors are not so subtle. For example, tons of Ramones covers did down/up strumming when it's supposed to be all down strums and nothing else whatsoever.
* Another version of Proverb 22:29 is "Do you see a man who excels in their work? He will stand before kings, he will not stand before unknown men."
really? this shit got downvoted in 3.5 seconds for me.

@@krispykrackers8826 This might be a case where he never responds. It has already been over a month, and we may never know. Maybe he thinks Eric is lying, but no, it's not a lie. Or he's jealous, or... Well, there *can* be other reasons, but I have no idea why.
You literally lived every nirvana fan's dream, that was amazing
It’s been weeks and I’m Still processing it all 😭
This is fucking crazy for a Nirvana fan as myself. Awesome video!!!
he played kurts guitar. he’s finally made it
Just yesterday, I went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and I got to see Skystang III. It felt unreal to see it. I couldn’t even imagine how you felt being able to hold it.
It's powerful seeing these instruments in person! Seeing Skystang III in person as a teenager is what made me go from "oh I like this band" to "oh my god I need to know everything about them now" 😂
@@NirvanaGuitarsyou're so very passionate about Nirvana and Kurt, very inspiring. Thank you for all you do and for teaching us new details I've not heard. Great job!
As one nirvana fan to another, we share your hapiness..thank you for sharing it to all of us 🤘❤
My goal with this video is to make you feel like you are in the room with me! So happy to share everything I saw that day 😀
@@NirvanaGuitars Thank you we appreciate the experience and like yourself..it'll be hard to still process it in the coming hours..days..even what an exoerience indeed! Cheers🥰
one nirvana fan to another says I'm lucky to have met you
You had the best way to celebrate In Utero's 30th anniversary! Honestly for the content you are making you deserve it! 🎸
Thank you so much that's too kind 😭 🙏
@@NirvanaGuitars I will be honest that it hits very hard when the strings are the actual ones the Kurt played on their last show. 😥
I'm already crying for you having this opportunity. Hope @fender releases the Skystand next year.
I'm getting a Skystang asap if they do
@@extraterrestrial736 me too
You literally reached the peak for what a Nirvana fan can get, besides actually playing with Krist, Dave, and Pat lmao. So cool.
this is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity
It really is sad that it’s selling, hpefully it goes to a museum which treats it with respect instead of some snobby rich guy, this is music history and shouldn’t be in some plomkers collection it should be on display where it will be respected for generations
As a lefty guitarist myself I wish mustangs and jags were more accessible as Kurt made it more popular why is fender doing this to us
Fender hates left handed people because we are in the minority
i think it should go to frances, she needs more of kurts things.
@@erikalicegan no she doesn't. she already gave away his martin, then somehow that came back and was sold at auction
@@PitBullPlaysGames oh sorry! i forgot that happened
I'm really happy it was you and not some other, slicker channels. You love Nirvana in the purest way possible and never make it about you. It's always about Kurt, the band, the music, and love we all share for them. Congratualtions, man!
That sincerely means the world to me, thank you so much for the kind words and support 🥹🙏🏻 the amazing online community of Nirvana gearheads is what got me in that room. I can only hope that with this video, I can give back to the community by providing a detailed visual record of a guitar we all collectively love 🙂
I've gone down a rabbit hole watching your videos. Got me teared up in nostalgia. 12yr old me listening to In Utero in my room with the headphones in 93'🥺😭🤘 thank you for making all the Nirvana/Kurt videos. And showing us all the gear and guitars. 🤘
Same here dude
Congratulations! You truly deserve it. I saw this guitar being played live by Kurt in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on 2/27/1994.
being able to play the radio friendly intro on his actual guitar is incredible man
At the very top of coolest things I’ll ever do. I don’t know what could top that or even come close!
Such respect truly
Live and loud starts with all that feedback such an iconic sound
46 years old I really appreciate this video thank you so much ❤
I recently saw Skystang I at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I seriously hope the guitar goes to a museum instead of some private collector. Amazing experience anyways!
Totally impossible to top this. Every Nirvana fan`s ultimate wet dream. Congratulations bro, you sure did it! 10/10
I don't know why this is making me so emotional even tho I never holded it met Dave, Pat and Krist, it's just making me tear up. You are amazing man I love your work so so much!❤️
Will never be able to thank you enough for the support 😭 🙏
@@NirvanaGuitars Your videos are like a thank you to me!🙏
I’m so happy for you dude. I was 15 when Kurt died, and it had a huge impact on me. I have a blue Japan Mustang from this era, and even though it just sits there now, and I rarely play it, I’m never parting with it.
Dude, I did not expect that ending. What an incredible opportunity and full circle moment for you - so well deserved. Earnie and Chad seem like such great guys. Thankyou gor such a detailed video and the time, effort, money, and work your put into your channel for us fellow guitar heads. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. So happy for you and congrats 👏 🎉
🥹 🙏 It's the amazing Nirvana fan community that got me in that room, I seriously can't thank you enough!!
Absolutely insane experience! So glad that this to happen to you and you were able to share it with everyone! Congrats man!! Seeing the foo fighters must have been the cherry on top
While you're waiting for my video to premiere, be sure to check out Julien's Auctions new interview! Chad Cobain and Earnie Bailey discussing Skystang I, it's a must watch for any Nirvana gearhead 😃 ua-cam.com/video/TpsRcjYglJ8/v-deo.html

Dude it seems really cool that you got to hold Kurt contains most used mustang. I wish I was you
Duuuude! That profile picture... That's a keeper.
Holding the actual guitar, that's just on a whole other level.
I just had to while I had the opportunity! 🤩
I don't think we have someone with a deeper understanding and passion about Nirvana and Kurt's guitars more than you do. As a Brazilian guy who always had Nirvana as the #1 band in my list, I have to say that the work you do and the content you share is one of the most precious content for all the Nirvana fans throughout the world.
I have been following you for a long time and feel really happy that you had all these experiences and got so close to the things and people who still represents what this band was, who wrote that history and still carry the Nirvana legacy out there. I salute you from Brazil!
It's so great to run across another huge Nirvana fan! You seem like such a humble, deserving guy! Thanks for letting me live some dreams vicariously! In Utero is one of my favorite albums of all time, as well! All the luck to ya!
Cool things happen to COOL PEOPLE, BROTHER! So happy for you man, it's the DREAM for Nirvana and Kurt fans alike
Dios tengo la piel de gallina... Gracias por compartir todo este amor por Nirvana y por Kurt Cobain. Es inexplicable lo que puede llegar a sentir un verdadero fanático y admirador de Nirvana. ❤
I’ve been a huge Nirvana fan my whole life. I saw them in person at Live N Loud when I was 15 and Kurt was playing this very same legendary guitar. I’m jealous as hell but I’m more happy for you man. This is beyond amazing and you deserve it!
I’m living vicariously through you bro in this moment. What a moment for you. How effing rad dude! I picked up my 72 tele deluxe reissue and plugged into my 65 Fender Bassman blackface, gifted from my dad many years ago, and belted out some Nirvana riffs after watching your video. You got me pumped up!
I’m so blown away by how much detail you got to document on such an iconic guitar for us Nirvana nerds. Thank you so much Eric. What an incredible day that must’ve been.
You of all people deserved to get to see it. Kurt would of loved the videos you make and how many people you inspire thank you!
I’m not even close to the level of a Nirvana fan that you all are but wow. What an awesome experience for you and an incredible documentation of such an important piece of music history. I can’t imagine how amazing that must have been for you. Rock on! 🤘🏻🔥
It's the real Skystang I guitar omg.
Thank you for this video man. I am happy for you.
You just lived my dream dude. I love Nirvana and I love Kurt. I am a Drummer though, so Dave is to me, what Kurt was to most. Congratulations to you man.
This is insane!!! That's a real dream come true, you're so lucky. I guess thats what you get for working so hard on a passion like this
🥹 🙏
I'm not exactly sure why, but this literally has me in tears, having to keep them from landing on my cracked phone screen and ruining my phone. Maybe it's because those strings being silent for 30 years symbolizes all of the life that Kurt missed out on. I love music, I adore Nirvana, but fuck all that... Yes, we missed out on a lot of music potentially, but this man missed out on his life, which is just tragic. He sacrificed so much in order to give us what he did. Thank you, Kurt. You'd be proud of how your songs have lived-on. Or maybe you wouldn't give a shit, I don't know... Either way, thank you...for everything...
You've deserved this SO much! You've worked hard! This gave me chills and tears to my eyes, I was living the dream with you kind of way!
Greatings from 🇫🇷🙌🏻👏🏻
You had an experience nirvana fans have fantasized about forever, congrats man you deserve it!
dude good for you man! holy shit! i couldnt even begin to imagine how surreal that must have been.
Glad you got to have this wonderful experience dude, you truly deserve it. Your genuine passion for and appreciation of Nirvana can totally be felt and the meticulousness in which you study and collect detailed information on each piece of gear is seriously scholarly level work.
Kurt Cobain was my inspiration to pick up a guitar as a kid and play in the first place, literally learning by ear and just watching his hands. I don't know if I could handle holding the last guitar, and possibly the last strings he ever touched in his life. That's just so incredibly overwhelming. We don't know when in 1994 he did "Do re mi." This video "Smelled like A Spiritual Experience." To me.
Dude so happy for you! I feel like I was there with you!
I have tears down my face. One of the things that hurts my heart is once a musician passes their instruments never tend to sing a note again. Hearing that guitar sing it's songs again has me feeling some kinda way. All guitars should be played. For instance. We will never hear Jimmy Hendrixs strat ever again. Noone will ever pick that guitar up again. It's sad to me. It makes me happy that the first guitars I've had that thought about are being played again. You're doing good work
Holy shit dude what a day you got to have! To get that praise from Earnie really must have been the world to you. Super happy for you that you got to experience this, unbelievable.
Thank you for documenting this wild Ride! This is one of a kind even if not THE #1 fan moment in every way on YT! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching! I still can't believe that all happened in one day 😭
I almost didn’t watch this video because i didn’t think it was anything special. I am stunned to say the least, this is an extremely cool video, story, and further documentation of all this important history. Amazing work!
bro, I've searched A LOT about Kurt's sound, that video is a relief for the younger me, thank you SO MUCH
This is just insane, I can't even describe in words what an awesome trip you had
It's been 2 weeks and I'm still in shock 🤯
You're officially the go to guy on Nirvana.
You deserved this amazing opportunity thank you for bringing us along on the journey glad you made the most of it :)
WOW! Congratulations! Jeez, it was the V from Christine! Thanks for sharing this, man. Rock on.
Smash that and you will be remember forever...
Man, that day must have felt absolutely unreal. That is beyond awesome.
Thankyou so much for all your awesome content man. You've inspired me to become the person I am today
Thank you so so much for your support and generosity! It truly means a lot 🙏
@NirvanaGuitars It's okay I'm an og
A-W-E-S-O-M-E V-I-D-E-O !!! WOW!!! 🎉😮
Thank you!!
Mustangs are the best
Man. I am happy for you. Well deserved! 🧡
Wow, how lucky for you! I'd give anything for that. Besides playing the guitar that Kurt played, what would make me really happy is just chatting with those guys who were part of that era, that scene, like Earnie! I'd grab a beer and chat for hours. I wish I could've experienced that scene, imagine being buddies with Pat and Dave too, casually going to shows and getting picked up from the crowd, haha.
I'm in Brazil, and it's even tougher to get access to these things here. But I went to a Nirvana exhibition, and I got to see some guitars up close. Oh, and I have an echoflanger like yours. I was so lucky to find it 15 years ago, and I take good care of it! Who knows, maybe one day I'll go to the US and meet those guys. It heavily influences my music compositions; imagine showing them my sound? Haha.
I dont know you personnaly but as a big fan of nirvana , I m happy for you (you deserve it) cheers
Dude, I'm so happy for you! That's a day you'll never forget....
Great video man! So cool you sharing this amazing experience, thanks!
Is this guitar privately owned? Amazing, didn't know it was still around
Owned by Kurt's brother and has been in a museum for close to 20 years, currently about to go on auction.
This was so wholesome. Congrats for the awesome achievement and thanks for making this video
what a crazy experience. congrats on your work man
Followed your channel since the beginning, this is such a great video. Ty for documenting everything for us. Really cool seeing huge fans live our dreams.
I just found your channel and I'm in LOVE. I love the details you put in. I can feel your love and appreciation for this guitar.
This is so insane and so cool seeing your progress over the last couple of years, congratulations, happy for you mate!
Mate what a day you had!!!!
Thanks for doing what you do, I was really looking forward to this one.
This is amazing. Congratulations on that experience. What a day. Thanks for sharing. Excellent video.
Thanks for recording this… it’s great to see you have this moment recorded and an insight into Kurt’s life.. what they did the guitars etc…
As a gearhead and eternal tone chaser in my own right, THANK YOU for this video. I've watched a lot of your channel after years of googling and youtubing this that and everything else that Kurt and Pat Smear played in Nirvana. It's really helped. I've stepped away from guitar to learn bass as a goal for next year but a guitar I'm jealous you have is that Paramout black Strat which is my favorite of Kurt's guitars next to the Skystang and the Unplugged Martin.
That's so cooool!! Happy for your experience!
This is so cool! What a great video.
Amazing....just AMAZING!!! Great vid!!
Congrats dude!! Your hard work led to this moment
What a great video, I can’t believe the feeling of happiness and excitement for you that I felt. What a great experience. Thanks for sharing it with us. I hope to have a collection like yours one day.
Amazing. Delighted for you and so happy to see this guitar close up.
what an incredible video wow, id still be processing it all to this day if i had such an opportunity, the fact that not only did you get to see, hold and play one of kurts guitars, with the strings he played, but then to meet the remaining surviving members of nirvana straight after, thats so crazy on so many levels and its super cool to see, great stuff man
This video is amazing! So awesome you got to have this experience. Thank you for documenting this. What a dream come true!
Wow that experience with the foo fighters at ACL had to be pure Nirvana bro!!! Rock on 🤘
Its crazy seeing how far you've gone. I remember watching your old covers as a kid when I was nirvana obsessed. Seeing you now make all these awesome videos is so great
So happy for you, dude! The amount of effort you put into documenting Kurt’s gear is worthy of this kind of recognition.
Has to be one of your best videos yet. Your editing and overall content is just amazing! So cool you got this kind of opportunity. Love it!
What an amazing experience, you deserve it for all your hard work. I’m so happy for you.
