Steve saying "Gene Simmons cannot fathom the idea that anyone isn't a huge kiss fan" is so funny because it's extremely believable.
Gene Simmons might be the biggest narcissistic on earth.
Thats not me being judgmental either, He has claimed that himself! probably verbatim, third-person phrasing and all, lol.
I imagine the only real huge kiss fans are Kiss themselves.

I love how Albini NEVER addresses the fact that the prank tapes might still be around. Every time Conan mentions it Steve just plain ignores it
I was so impressed with his- aggressive nonchalance (?) towards Conan's mentions, the tapes themselves, or both, or ??? Neither Dave nor Krist ask him any follow up questions, which was like bonus points for Albini.

It's so nice to hear Krist laugh.
I was thinking the same thing. He was hilarious when he was in Nirvana.
To be honest, I definitely *do not* dig his politics, which he's made the big focus of his life. But, seeing him relaxed and happy and talking about making art is great! And the one part he starts to talk about taxation, Conan swoops down like a bald eagle and pulls the libertarian talking point out of his hand.

@@kylenoll123 Conan kind of touched on it. He does not seem to appreciate his life. Absolute greedy person. Will trademark a lot of things to make a buck when he didn’t come up with them. He claims and owns the trademark of literally a bag of money with dollar sign. And has sued a lot of people who make their own. Also tried the trade mark the Devil horns hand gesture but failed because it was created long ago as the American Sign Language 🤟 symbol. And if you read more you would understand how much he doesn’t really seem to have a personality when people have tried to talk to him like a human being but instead he wants to get to the point on more money schemes or ripping off his fans. Really check this dude out. There is a lot of baffling things he has done to make a buck when he doesn’t need to push so hard in his later years.

I'm so happy Conan went to this format. Interviews are more enjoyable for the fans, but the artists themselves.
And it's nice it didn't really focus on Dave Grohl. I like Dave but sometimes he is who the interviewers focus on a lot.

Steve is a national treasure. He’s helped create so much art and magic. And he shares his technical knowledge on how he creates. ❤
I didn't know much about him but from the bits I did, I thought of him as a brilliant but difficult, probably unlikeable man. And this and his interview with Andy Richter, I kind of fell in love with Steve.

Steve is an audio genius. Most engineers and producers try to capture the sound and music... he was a guy that was able to capture the raw energy of a band.

Listened to the whole thing on streaming, gotta say, the entire interview was a huge culture shock in a positive way, like it came so out of the blue and there's just a random 1+ hour discussion between Grohl, Novoselic and friggin Steve Albini? Random but great haha

@@MajinGoten1 true but Albini has only been talking to some freelancer journalists about working with Nirvana (or anything). The whole year I knew that it's the 30th anniversary but I never expected this to happen this way so it was pretty random to me.
The only problem with this interview is that is could have been twice as long! So great! Just the fact that Steve Albini turns out to be the king of prank calls is just so amazing.

Even when Kurt was badmouthing Pearl Jam musically, he'd admit he liked Eddie personally and that he was a very nice guy. Everyone should prank call Gene Simmons at some point.

I love that you can sense Conan is a genuine fan like the rest of us, not acting like a host. Prank calling is a lost art, as a child of the 90's before caller I.D. It was as stupid and harmless as it was hilarious and fun. Jerky Boys anyone?

Steve Albini is the man. You can just go and listen to the albums that he was involved in and hear the greatest versions of all those bands.

Even before In Utero, I had been in love with Steve Albini's producing because of the Pixies Surfer Rosa album, which remains an enduring masterpiece. But everything I read about Albini, always suggested he was this really grumpy, acidic and dictatorial producer. But he sounds like a funny guy to have on board.

Worshipped Nirvana as a teenager. Still shocked at how Dave grew a chin at some stage.
He didn't. He grew a beard. I'm from a family with the same chins... all the men grow beards as early as possible and never look back.

I got Nevermind on holidays years ago in Crete, in 01, i was 10...I loved that album, it reminds me so much of that holiday whenever i listen, its amazing to be that age and to discover real music like that.

Conan is a great interviewer. He knows so much about his guests
pretty mindblowing to see Conan's knowledge of these stories and people and the bands involved. theres 'research' and 'being prepared' but the depth of his knowledge here goes way beyond familiarity, this is a level of informed conversation that makes me think Conan has a shoebox with a collection of objects that were found in copies of Big Black's Lungs EP.
Conan must be a abig fan of Nirvana, but when he started teling dave it was 2months to record and Dave say it was 14days. I think maybe he shouldve asked and then listened
@@CourtWatchAu tbf: he probably knew it was two weeks, its a pretty well known bit of trivia and that timeframe is short either way...but since Conan worked in interviews for decades he could have inentionally tee'd that "two months" up for Dave. It put emphasis on the impressively short time and also left room for Albini to say it only took 3-4 days to mix if he wanted. (that fact would be pretty astounding on its own too, if you had never heard Albinis mix...its not good)

I saw Nirvana interviews first, and the way they handled them, and then saw how the Beatles handled their interviews, and saw how they didn't take them seriously. That's probably the way to do it. I'd probably be terrified lol. Good for them for having fun. Neat that Steve was in on this conversation.
