  • Kelley Gilbert of Casa Crafty shows us how to use Pellon® 71F Peltex® I One-Sided Fusible. It is an ultra-firm, smooth, heavyweight stabilizer for accessories, crafts, home decorating, machine embroidery, and quilting. It is easy-to-sew, even when sandwiched in between other fabrics. Peltex® I will not flatten out or be distorted with steam pressing. It has no grain and can be cut in any direction.

I'm confused. The instructions that come with my Pellon - Peltex 71 F Single Sided Fusible Ultra Firm Stabilizer say :
" .....use a hot steam iron at wool setting " and in caps: " ALWAYS USE A DAMP PRESS CLOTH AND PRESS DOWN FIRMLY..."
    So... which is it?

I am also confused with the conflicting directions on how to use it. I thought I would check and see if there were any videos before I used it for the first time. Now I'm even more confused about how to use it. Do you need to press it with a damp cloth or not?

Hold it for "a few" seconds? That suggests as little as 3-5 to me but that seems way too little. Isn't there closer guidance than that? The manufacturer's instructions that I usually see are more specific range which still allows for the adherence on different fabrics.

Very glad I just found the written instructions for Pellon 71F. It says 10-15 seconds. That's much longer than this video suggests and could have been a real disappointment if it separated after it was made.

I have a project that requires a width of 28” versus the 20” the 71f comes in. Is there a way to join pieces or another option that would be better to use? Thx for any advice.

What if my fabric will not tolerate a hot iron? I’m looking to stiffen a bag made of Cordura nylon.

Why does she seem annoyed at having to do this

Maybe that's just her usual expression. I don't think she's actually annoyed.
