Thank you very much. Due to a recent health issue I have developed a vision issue that makes it hard to see when just soldering a project. I amswitching to came to make my projects look nicer.
Thank you! I had questions about hobby came and how to use it. Your tutorial is very good because it explains what hobby came is, what it is used for, how to apply it and what a common pitfall is when working with hobby came.
You can but you would have better adherence tinning first. Also, you have to make sure all the copper foil is covered if you just add the came to the piece without tinning.
You can give it a go at 360. Normally I keep my at 410. Make sure the game is shiny. Use 000steel wool. Flux well. And move quickly. You can always go back and touch up
ive seen some people who don't solder on the edges where the hobby came goes. Can we do that or do you recommend soldering the whole thing and then adding the hobby came?
John Pecchillo I normally use 1/4”. Only because I like a bolder line. I also use when I’m using the hobby came because it’s easier to grab the foil and attach it to the hobby game. I hope this helps. Note: I use all sizes of foil within a piece itself. Depends on the piece.
@@glassartdiva Thank you Carol!! That's real good information. It never struck me to use different sizes throughout a piece. I will get a roll of 1/4" and try it out. Certain glasses are thicker than others and makes foiling tough for a newbie. I have just completed my first test piece and am prepping for my second. My soldering definitely needs work! LOL
My apologies. Just saw your question. Yes, a very thin covering of solder to tin the foil. At the seams, where the came and the same meet, flatten the seam so that the came lays flat along the side. The when you go back to do your touch ups, fix the bead in the seam. I hope this helps. And again, apologies for the late reply.
Your soldering is amazing perfect.
Thank you so much for this information and stating the size 5/64. Your piece is beautiful
The best video on hobby came I've seen so far! Thank you!
LOVE the Santa!

Thank you for so much information, I didn't know how to use hobby came before. I love your santa, he is gorgeous, would you share the pattern? Denise
Denise Brislin I would love to, but not sure how I could get it to you.
@@glassartdiva Do you remember where you saw or bought the pattern?
Denise Brislin. It was given to me by a friend. There are two Santa’s to the set
@@glassartdiva Oh, Thanks anyway. I'll continue to look out for him.....
I love it
thank you!!!
What size hobby came do you use for generic 3/16 glass? (Just saw the answer in your description, thanks for posting video!)
They also have hobby came in H
One question. Do you have to use copper foil on the outside before doing the hobby came?
Hi Thanks for this video. I have a question about hobby came. Can I put the came on the foil without tinning the foil?
You can but you would have better adherence tinning first. Also, you have to make sure all the copper foil is covered if you just add the came to the piece without tinning.
Do you use lead solder for hobby came?
What temperature do you keep your Hakko for the tack?
You can give it a go at 360. Normally I keep my at 410. Make sure the game is shiny. Use 000steel wool. Flux well. And move quickly. You can always go back and touch up
ive seen some people who don't solder on the edges where the hobby came goes. Can we do that or do you recommend soldering the whole thing and then adding the hobby came?
I’ve done it both ways. To tell the truth, once I start foiling I find that I’ve foiled the whole piece when I really didn’t need too. Daydreaming.
Did you use a thicker copper foil for the edges to have it show from under the came? I just made my fist project and 7/32 foil is pretty thin.
John Pecchillo I normally use 1/4”. Only because I like a bolder line. I also use when I’m using the hobby came because it’s easier to grab the foil and attach it to the hobby game. I hope this helps. Note: I use all sizes of foil within a piece itself. Depends on the piece.

Can the colour of stain glassed windows be changed in situ,we need to change the colour
Do you mean the windows are installed and you want to change out the glass. It will be a lot of work but yes, it can be done.
Do you tin the foil before putting the hobby came on?

Where do you buy a hobby came?
I purchase it at the stained glass supplier. Some may call it 5/16” came but mostly it’s called hobby came.
Very helpful video - thanks!
