    Hi!
    i'ts so awesome your idea to change the systems. I want ask you question, with your SC200 connect to SC8000 with Freenas, is that connected?
    I have SC400 with SC5020 connect with mini-sas-HD to but the SC5020 Truenas can't detect that SC400.
    Is that any solution with that? Thank you

      oh my gosh that awesome! how do i go about applying for a space in your servers? i really like the fact that you are running things yourself and i like the way you do things, therefore id like to support your company with, an email server, a game server, and a FTP. if this is available of course!
      thanks

    That is one thing that pisses me off about companies when they say they can't do anything about it they absolutely can do something about it they just won't and when people tell me that I correct them you could do something about it but there's a policy or something in a company that won't allow you to so please don't say you can't do something about it when you can you just won't

    So the big question is how much did you pay for this system? I just bought an IBM DS3524 SAN loaded with 12 x 300GB 10K RPM SAS drives, room for 12 more 2.5" drives for $300. I found a company online selling the iSCSI cards for $146 each, so I bought two. These prices are in CAD.

      I paid like 600 for the Server and the SC200 with caddies so really cheap price and next im going to get 2TB SAS drives and couple more Samsung SSDs or some other SSDs maybe some enterprise for caching

      You might want to look at using the Samsung EVO Pro drives for caching. I was talking to a friend who's company tested a bunch of SSD's on their SAN's and found the EVO Pro drive were the only ones that were able to keep operating at their sustained throughput while others tanked. Even the non Pro drives.

      +dhowser2008 oh good to know yeah I'll be doing some testing and this as well will be same setup for our Colo hosting business my friend and I are starting :) I'll look and see where I can get a hold of those drives

    I just ended up with one of these randomly, can you install windows to this machine? windows server?

      Yes, but you need a few cables to get SATA Data & SATA Power and you would likely need to install from USB.

      I just got it and it failed to initialize idrac :(...... Its impossible to find firmware to update the iDrac to kick it in the pants to get it working. The server works but its a pain in the ass. Runs fans 100%. and lifecycle is disabled :(

    Hello : i follow your idea by buying the R510, now you are selling it :), so is it bad idea to use the R510 as SAN storage ????.

    • @Virtualbytes1
      @Virtualbytes1  8 років тому

      +Iceberry Morocco its not bad just wanting more expansion room and easy way of attaching more drives ;)

    • @Adil-te1fi

      +GNET Data Center you reassure me :). Tell me how can I connect more that 2 server to the r510?. Is it by switch fcoe?

    • @Virtualbytes1
      @Virtualbytes1  8 років тому

      +Iceberry Morocco you need DAS or SAN Arrays not servers, 1 Server as controller and rest is all DAS or SAN Arrays daisy chained
