Great video. I bought a set of O rings and sorted my GC8 fuelling issues with new billet fuel rails. No need for genuine O rings. A set consisting of hundreds cost only a few pounds.
Yeah this was kind of one of those things that isn't common. I have never changed the o-rings on the injectors in the wagon and they have been in and out numerous times.
Hey @homebrew subaru would a bad o-ring cause an internal leak too? I had a shop diagnosis my misfried and got the car back I notice fuel leaking on the outside as well as a very thin and very full oil on the dip stick that went pass the "Max" mark. I'm guessing this guy messed up the injector some how while installing and isn't just an o-ring damaged.
I have the same car. Same issue. Fixed. You have to go online to the Subaru parts catalog. Look at the diagram for the fuel system. Then call them for that specific part number. The guys at dealers have no clue what they're doing.
Hey Homebrew this isnt related but I did a TGV delete on my car and it has hard starts. I usually have to give it a little gas and crank the car at the same time to get it to fire up. Well just before I put the car away for the winter I noticed a small puddle of fuel under the car. Do you know where I should start looking for this leak? Possibly the lines first? It's some where close to the oil pan near the rear of the motor. Thanks Mr. Wizard
Soundslike you might not be getting enough fuel for a cold rich start up. That is a strange spot to have a leak, but my first guess would be a injector o-ring. Sometimes a little tweak of the fuel rail is required to get a good seal when installing TGV's. If that is the cause of your hard start, try to prime the system a couple of times before starting. Key on position to run the fuel pump, then off. Then on, then off. Now try to start it. You could be losing a bit of prime pressure if there is a leak.
Same story here, for my impreza 2007. Wrong o rings received. 5th time i try something..last 24h each time. I just tried ordering an oring kit on amazon. Let's see.. i don t know how much pressure i have to push the injectors in the rail. Oring get destroyed rapidly and i dont understand why. Grrr..
I solved my problem. Cold. I had the trouble while it was 0C outside and it was difficult to push the injectors in the fuel rail. Oring were always damaged after inspection. I tried heating the fuel rail with an air dyer and voilà.... perfect fit and no leak.
Thx, I didn't know that you had a previous video. My problem is that I've lost the clips that hold the fuel injector to the pipe. Retaining clips and I can not find a source for them? cheers.
The o-ring may have rolled when installing the injector. A little brake lube on the o-ring can prevent it from happening. You may need to replace the o-ring if it has been pinched

Thank you for your video. I like to see the problems other get also. In UA-cam, it is always "right the first time"...not the reality. Thx!
Thank you so much for this video my son is having the same problem on a friends sub
Crazy the issues with top feeds your seeing. I hate side feeds with a passion. Was happy when I swapped KA to tops and luckily the VQ were top too.

@@HomebrewSubaruBack in the days, a friend had his car burn down due to a leaky injector. Good thing you found it and corrected.
You gotta put silicone grease on them before install to make a good seal if not don't even bother homie petroleum jelly works too

It’s possible the injector itself is leaking internally but it won’t normally be caused by an o-ring failure
What's that braided or chain-like wire thats connecting the shock tower to the motor? It's running over your battery cabe at 4:21
That was a ground wire that was added. The original grounds that were on the valve covers were missing.

You've got to be the fifth person to say something similar

thats one thing i have never worked on yet
Been there..smh o ring can cause heart attacks..
Why don't you show us how to remove and install the injectors?
I try not to repeat content and it's a fairly easy procedure

@@HomebrewSubaru thanks for the info will check it out.
More and more people are going to want to keep their old cars running , your gonna be busy for years.

It's not too late, it's never too late
how about showing how to actually do things like take out the injectors, then this would be more useful than your personal narrative....
Uhh because this wasn’t a “how to remove injector video”? Thanks for trying to be a mechanic, it makes my life much easier 🙏
