This is a wonderful effort from those Finnish metal veterans. When i met Marko last summer, he said that he will activate at the end of the year. So this is it. There's also a fresh video: "Mika Jaakkola feat. Marko Hietala: Soita". It's something totally different, but good.
The name Waltari comes from the internationally most famous Finnish writer Mika Waltari, who wrote historic fiction novels and lots of other good stuff. The best known novel is an huge international bestseller "The Egyptian" (1945). Highly recommeded reading to everybody. ⛄👍

Love Marko's voice in this, it's on my binge list of 'Marko and Floor' to listen to. Their voices are food for the soul.
Thank you very much for this great video! This is an "updated" version of Waltari`s old song. They have a long long history like Marco. Funny fact, this is recorded at "Korpiklaani" studio. The man besides the "double" neck ukulele and behind the computers is Jonne, the vocalist of "Korpiklaani", a great Finnish Folk Metal band and they are all good friends which you can see and feel during the whole video. If you have not listen Korpiklaani pls do. Never a dull moment. And Marco has just released another video and is/has been on stage also with "Raskasta Joulua" - tour, which started 12/04/21.

Mika is a guitarist who after decades of playing suffers from focal dystonia, spasms in his hands while playing, I think they are called 'the yips'. So he had to find a new way to play - sounds great. Windinstrumentalists can develop the same symptoms in their faces. Golfers in their arms/ hands...
Having Marko singing is great, but the song written by Mika and Mika's playing gets positive comments too.
Definitely a must to be listened!

The ukulele guy is Sami Yli-Sirniö, a true Finnish metal god. He plays also for Kreator. Check out 'Satan is real' from them. Some nice guitar work in there as well.
Soita is an awesome performance. I've watched it 6 times and I really like the slide lap guitar. Marco Rules.
Think that`s a 8 string ukulele on top and a normal ukulele at the bottom. Great to hear Marko again doing what he loves.

Nice One Thomas! Good to see Marco for sure and he did amazing job as he always does 🤘😊🤘. About the band though. This was a remake of their 2009 song. Taken from their new compilation album of their old songs. Every song has a guest appearance on it and Marco is on this one. Waltari is a bit of an odd band.. great musicians and song writers (Kärtsy Hatakka) singer writes most of their material. Mixing different metal genres with hip hop, rap, pop, funk, classical music.. there are no boundaries with this band. They have always done, whatever they feel like doing and that's interesting to me. I have listened some of their 90's stuff quite a bit. Nice to see them on your channel, although Marco was the obvious reason for it 😊🙏

@@ThomFoolery1 Yes, inspired by your reaction I listened their album Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! Death Metal Symphony In Deep C (yes that is the name of the album 🤣) and that is something very different. Death metal and classical music, with some other genres mixed in too 🤣

I love and wish Marko well, while a part of me wishes he were still with Nightwish, it is selfish to feel that way. The guy is a legend, and just wish him happiness.

One of Marko's projects Northern Kings are doing festivals next year.
He has a cold I think atm because he cancelled his performance with Raskasta Joulua this weekend. I think a bug is going through the Raskasta Joulua camp as Antii who performed with them has pneumonia and Tony Kakko is still not well.
I hope they all get better soon.

I can't remember if we've discussed F1 before? I'm a huge huge fan. This season has been amazing and it's poetic that they're level on points for the final race. I respect both drivers but I am rooting for Max tomorrow. The race is at 5AM here so I'll be watching the replay. Fingers crossed we get a clean race with no more shenanigans.

Idk if anyone's mentioned this but moving your arms and keeping limber is a singing technique to fool your body into relaxation and not tighten your throat .

You know, I've been thinking about something. Since Marko left Nightwish, he's popped up here and there as guest vocalist on a variety of tracks. The commonality is, of course, that he, and his magnificent voice, are front and center. I'm wondering if he left Nightwish because he wants to be more of a front man. Since Troy joined, maybe things have been going in a different direction than Marko had envisioned. On the newest album, he only had one song, and so did Troy. Maybe he feels stifled professionally??
Then again, it's quite possible that these gigs have been lined up for ages and they just happen to coincide with his Nightwish departure.
That's an interesting point! He's so good that he deserves to be the front singer for any band. Maybe he just has so much musical treasure that he wants to share and sprinkle around the world. 😁

If I remember correctly, he said in his statement that he has some previous engagements that he will do before retiring from public life. Not sure if these projects are in that category, but I presume so.
@@toiddiot1629 He isn't retiring just took some time for him self and his family. He is going to do some concerts as solo next year.
I have thought that thing too... But also he has been doing his solo stuff along with Nightwish for a lo g time🤷🏼♀️ maybe he just want to slow down and do this thing on his own terms? And also be able to do what he want, with Nightwish you always do compromises. He haven't leave the music industy for sure.
I have been thinking the same all the time. Also, Holopainen's music style has been changing little by little and, IMO, it does not sound like Marko so much.

So wonderful seeing Marko with a big smile on his face. Check out some of the lyrics below. Since he left Nightwish, I have always felt a part of his decision beyond his industry concerns had a little to do with his lack of opportunity to stretch his creative wings. On EFMB he only co-wrote 2 songs, Weak fantasy & Yours is an Empty Hope. Two of the heaviest songs on the record and he only had small vocal sections and mostly backup singing parts on this record. Then on Human :II: Nature he had no writing credits and only one song, Endlessness where he sang the lead role. These songs were more about Tuomas' creative vision and Marko was chosen to tell the story.
That is 3 co-written songs and very few lead vocal opportunities over a 9 year period. Marko is not a young man and I wonder if he felt his time was running out. Check these lyrics. I realize this song was written by Kärtsy Hatakk in 2009. Perhaps it was Marko's choice to redo this song due to the lyrics? Maybe saying something?
