The weather over the weekend in somerset has been gorgeous

It was a beautiful weekend, wasn't it? A bit colder in the days since but, with spring not far away now, there has to be more to come soon.
All the best and thanks for watching.

Lovely day for a walk Ollie. Shame about the blocked access rights and well done for reporting them. As a previous comment said....it looks as if there was a stile next to the abandoned muck spreader that needs some serious repairs/maintenance and undergrowth clearing. Hope you get it sorted...keep us posted on the outcome of your report. May be worth also getting in touch with the Ramblers Path Watch scheme as it will inform the local group of the issue too.

      Hi Dave,
I spotted that stile on my walk here last year but didn't see it this time around - thank you to both Simon and yourself for pointing it out. I'd be very keen to hear what the council might have to say. In other parts of the county, I've previously been told that the landowner almost has 'permission' to do as he pleases...!
I may do another local walk next weekend that highlights some other footpath issues. I wasn't sure how this video would be received. Thanks also for reminding me about Pathwatch - I used to use it religiously but had long forgotten about it. A good way to hold on to a physical record of your reports, where councils may only preferred you with reference numbers - and sometimes, much less.
All the best. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

      Hi again, Dave.
Sent my report through this afternoon and received a phone call ten minutes later! Council weren't aware of these issues, although they made other improvements along the same river but further east, last year.
They will investigate in time but, as I'm the only one to have reported this and few appear to walk it, it's not been deemed as a "priority" with other issues that need addressing.

Morning Olly, what a stunning bit of weather we have had this part weekend hey, great to see you out sharing more local walks with us. What the heck with the blocked access? Definitely needs to be logged and reported back to OS, or someone? Farmers can sometimes bees than hospitable, but they need to understand and respect rights of way.
I'd have been with you Olly, no a chance 👍 very interesting and sly looking walk Olly, absolute beauty, the sun has been heavenly☕❤😁 well done for reporting the right way concerns, land owners and farmers can take the pee pee. Good luck with the bike, hope it works out 🤗 catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ❤☕

      Afternoon, Ceri and Kat.
Indeed, it was quite a glorious weekend for February. I am reporting it to North Somerset Council through their website. But I've also logged it using the Ramblers' Pathwatch app - you can use it on your phone or on a desktop machine. Some landowners are 'less considerate' than others but I'd like to know what's really happening here.
I may do another local video on right of way issues and thank you - I need a big more practice on the bike to feel confident but it should be a good investment.
All the best, thank you and hope you have a good week. :-)

Olly, what a beautiful day for a walk☀️All very gentle and relaxed. Loved the way the right of way went over the railway line. Cool that you included some of that glorious mud😊 Sounds like a winner with the folding bike in terms of savings and fitness (more pedalling with the smaller wheels🚲😊)

Thanks for watching, Gerry. It was a pleasantly nice walk after weeks and months of mud. The bike has been a good purchase so far, thanks. Hope you're keeping well and all the best.

The weather was beautiful yesterday. Its quite shocking to see rights of way being blocked like that. I wouldn't of been happy if I'd came across that vehicle blocking the path. Its good that you've made a video like this showing how some rights of way are being craftily taken away. Is it the landowner doing this? If so surely they could be prosecuted. I bet if I parked my car over their driveway they'd soon moan. We were walking by Bath racecourse yesterday. There were quite a few people out. I filmed our walk but I'm not as fast as you editing my vids.Lol

      Hi Martin,
A very beautiful day, wasn't it. I'll send the photos to the council and see what they have to say. It doesn't look like an official closure or else there would be noticed up from the council/Highways Agency. Not sure whether it's the landowner or the users - Mendip Outdoors Pursuits normally use that next field for archery courses.
Bath Racecourse is an interesting one. There's a footpath that crosses the tracks but you have to duck under the barriers in order to follow it precisely! ;-) Ah, I work Saturdays so get Mondays off as a complimentary "Sunday", see. I look forward to seeing your video in time. Thanks for watching.

Nice one cool dude. The worst block off I had was when a farmer chained the gate and put tar on the top which I didn't notice until I climbed it. Stay cool.

I've seen barbed wire over a stile but now I'm imagining a Home Alone-esque series of traps and tricks that followed... Hopefully you caught it all on film? ;-)

Thanks, Shirley. We've had a very dark, cold and grey few months. Blue sky is definitely a sign of brighter and warmer times. :-) I need some more practice with the bike but it should be a good investment.
All the best and thanks for watching. Good luck also with your house hunting.

Good on you Olly for gathering evidence. I've come across blocked ways before but never thought to do that. I'll see if Herefordshire Council offer a similar service. Nice conditions on the ground this time around. In fact a very spring like day. All the best. Mark

    • @WalksWithOlly
      @WalksWithOlly  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mark,
I'd be surprised if Hereford or Herefordshire don't have their own service available. Probably involves a bit of digging through their website. Only question might be in how efficient they are in responding.
Conditions were indeed, very good - and possibly because so few people walk those ways. I received a very prompt response from the council... They weren't aware of these issues and will investigate in the future. It's not a 'priority' report as these paths are so infrequently used and I'm the first to raise it.
Hope you're having a good week. Thank you and all the best.

@@WalksWithOlly Yes, a quick search reveals they to have the same service Olly. They looked reasonable conditions. Very mice although we like a challenge to. Good the reports gone in/logged.

Very interesting, Brad. Do you report these issues to the council? I've been told today that they'll look in to it but, as no-one else walks here or has reported this, they're not currently deemed to be "priority paths".
Thanks for watching and all the best.

Glad to hear it, Owen. The guy at the council commented on how I'd "gone off piste again"; walking where others don't know or don't bother. ;-) They said they'll look in to these issues over time. But won't class them as a 'priority' as I'm the first to report them and they're not as frequently used as other routes.
      All the best.

There seemed to be the remnants of a stile beside that old muck spreader, very overgrown. I bet at some point people stopped using it and used the gate which peeved the farmer, maybe they let sheep or cattle out. Either way it shouldn't be allowed to happen, the loss of rights of way today, what tomorrow?

    • @WalksWithOlly
      @WalksWithOlly  3 роки тому

I think you're right, Si. I didn't spot it this time but, last year, I can recall seeing said stile (just about). There's probably some unofficial agreement between the landowner and Mendip Outdoors Pursuits, who normally use that next field for archery and other activities. But then, golf courses have no right to deter walkers and they can be dangerous places. Why should this be any different?
I'll report it to the council later (forgot over the weekend) and see what they have to say. All the best and thanks for watching.
