Thanks for stopping by the cemetery my great grandparents, grandmother & aunts are there 1820 & forward. My great grandfather Stanley Reed was a deputy sheriff in Ely, he was T-boned at the first lighted intersection in Ely in 1924. My grandmother, youngest of 7 children lost her dad at 7 years old. My Aunt Barbara worked at JPL in LA she was brilliant. All who lived and grew up here all longed to go back and they were the coolest most laid back people you could ever know. God Bless!
I use Ely as a stopover on my summer trips from Arizona to Washington state. Stayed at the same hotel, a little cramped but it's clean with a free breakfast to get you going the next morning.
Hey.. was watching your channel. Catching up on LA. Moved away about 25 years ago. Going back to stay with my 92 yr old dad. Didn't realized you were visiting Northern Nevada. After living in Vegas 13 yrs. I moved to Reno during the great recession. The first year was brutal. Because cold weather lasts until the end of April. But you get used to it. Missed the snow crunching and crackling under your feet, the crispness of the cold air you breathe, and most definitely the clothes layering when you step out the door. I feel homesick already. Reno population is about half a million. When I moved to Vegas in 97'. It was only nine hundred thousand. When I moved out it was 2.3 million. All of Nevada has about 4 million total.
I enjoy your videos as I used to live in California but would take driving trips to Nevada. I like how you just present the places you go and don’t overly talk. Good job!
On the driving without the cars, I hear you. We drove home from Salt Lake City last year and took the old highway out of Draper on the back end of salt lake and it was amazing because it was so empty. When we got closer to Wells Nevada after Wendover the traffic picked up a little but it was still way better than going up the I 15 I80 route.
I wish you show longer video of the store fronts & I wonder what most of the people do for a living with all those empty stores on main street empty casinos hardly any foot traffic
Cell service is intermittent....I have traveled those roads 100 times (no exaggeration), I know all the old boys that ran things.....great time to reflect, and awesome place to make money if you have a skill!
Hi - I was just curious as how much the State Patrol travels up and down those remote highways in case someone has problems of one kind or another. In Canada we have the Provincial Police eg Ontario is the OPP. Appreciate your video of Ely. Cheers!
There are many miles of open road with no mobile service and upwards of 100 miles between towns. I never saw a single law enforcement on the road on my trip. I suppose if you had car problems you would have to rely on someone to stop and help or walk miles and hope for spotty cell service to try to send a text. I once rode into Tonopah after dark and it was pretty freaky being so alone for so many miles. I know it pales in comparison to Canada and Alaska but definitely something to consider to a city dweller like me.
@@mediaxpuppet Hi - Appreciate the info! That would be eerie driving all those miles in the dark and then coming into civilization. My late brother lived in Vegas for over 30 years. He moved there after getting a chance with his Greyhound employer to leave LA & drive tours out of Vegas to Utah & Colorado. I visited him in LA but never made it to Vegas as had too many commitments 🇨🇦 up here. He would think it funny that I’d now be so interested in Nevada. For some reason it has intrigued me. I didn’t know it was such a silver and gold mining State. Really enjoy the scenery and walkabouts. Pet pets to your pooch. Cheers!
Ely is a great place to start or end the famous Hwy 50 "loneliest hwy adventure"! Sorry you sound like a paranoid Californian however and missed virtually all the highlights of Ely and the country
Not sure what you're taking about. I drove from bishop to tonopah to Ely to Vegas as part of a loop road trip with my dogs. It was the dead of winter and this video was the extent of my daylight time, so I spent it walking around town. Me thinks you're just displaying some implicit bias against all californians for whatever reason.
I live in a giant city so the open road and quicky overnights were heaven. Sometimes all you have time for is a quick spin around town. There's always next time, when it's not freezing with very short days. I found the whole drive quite relaxing and the hotel was toasty and comfortable.
That's what I was thinking too. It's very much nowhere to nowhere. Was going to head back on 50 towards Tahoe and see for myself but it was right as all the storms started rolling in so instead we went south to vegas.

I am 71. I lived in Ely when I was 6 to 7. I do remember it somewhat.

Nice video , small town Nevada never disappoints always something to rekindle the past memories of days gone by.

Nice great video just went through ely on way back from colorado! Can't for get what I call the red barns ha.
The railroad museum is great. You can ride the trains and take a walking tour.
Nice video 👍👍❤️

McGill is worth visiting too, but it's way smaller than Ely
I have been up that way a couple of times. Nice hot springs in Caliente. Also a rental yurt in a state run place.

2:25 that Charlie’s angle music lol
We did the train in Ely.
What month was this from? Your traveling companions are very well mannered!
Ice cold February.

With all the "road time" you could have explored several of the really interesting and historic sites in and around Ely for a much better presentation

Hwy 6 between Tonopah and Ely is even more desolate than Hwy 50 between Fallon and Ely.

Yep. At least on 50 you have Eureka and Austin and Cold Springs Station
@@mediaxpuppetare there any African Americans in that town?
@@shawnmichael1231I can only go by Wikipedia census data, which says there is about a dozen or about 1/3 of 1%.
