To still have your dad around is a true blessing from God. To actually be able to do road trips with him are memories for a lifetime. My dad is gone and we never got a chance to do this. If anyone is reading this you just don't know how important it is to do this. Honor your mother and your father and you will live a long life. You will also be thankful and at peace with a treasure trove of stories and memories to share. Nothing can replace the time spent with your parents so don't waste or ignore it. Make them a priority in your life. Thank you for this video. Seeing you and your dad melts my heart. This was a real blessing and a joy to me. I miss you dad.

Yes it is. We can only wish and hope that our kids want to spend time with us when they grow up.. haven't seen mine but a few times this year and they live 2 streets away .. they think I'm crazy because i take all the precautions to keep covid away, and they won't wear a mask if they visit or I go there. That is extremely interesting. I actually thought I hit a jack-rabbit on a lonely road, in the middle of the night. My son and I were going to Reno for the air races. I was driving and very tired. There was absolutely no damage, nor blood, nor fur on the front of the car. It had to be an illusion...but it sure seemed very, very real.

I started team driving 6.5 yrs ago so I got to experience all over the lower 48. I would be spook to drive that lonely route they are on 😆😆😆😆 i swear I86 from erie, PA all the way to Binghamton, NY. I have driven this road at night many times in my 18 wheeler, and I couldn't believe some of the things I would see in the night every time I drove across on this road. Then on one trip across, with it being a particularly dark night, I didn't see any of the unusual things that always appeared on this stretch of road. That's the last time I forget my weed at home.

When I was young, around 60 years ago, my grandfather had some mining property by Baker Nevada and times I would go with him. We left home between 10 pm and midnight and being a kid would fall asleep during the trip. I would wake in the morning still in the car right at the Welcome to Utah sign. We would go in the cafe there at state line had have breakfast before heading into the mountains.

I went down this road on a motorcycle by myself at night. It was pretty eerie but awesome. I even stopped in the middle of a 90 mile stretch with no services for a while. Every car (about 4) that drove by stopped to ask if I needed help. I was just admiring the scenery with a long range flashlight I had on me. I'm from Illinois so the vast openness is very awe inspiring!

My dad loved road trips, and my mom and he were always travelling to see different places. After he passed away, Mom was still able to get out on the road for a while. So, we did a bunch of road trips together. Every time that I would go down a side road to explore or investigate some signed attraction, she would exclaim, "You are just like your dad with that: That's what he would always do. Sadly, her health does not permit her getting around much nowadays, but she still has great memories of all those trips and adventures.

I rode on Rt 60 to Louisville, Ky then from there I took Rt 150 to pick up Rt 50 in English, IN. I ended my trip in Salt Lake and hopped a freight to Nevada and then a trucker gave me a ride to a town east of Sacramento and I finished my ride from there riding across the Golden Gate Bridge on my scheduled arrival date. I stayed mostly in fire station but also some private homes of complete strangers. It was a wonderful experience.

Mauro Talini was a solo bike rider affected by T1Diabetes and in 2013 was riding his "One bike, a 1000 hopes 2013 - From the South to the North of the World” trail, from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego (Argentina) to Prudhoe bay, Alaska. Over 25.000 Km, in 210 days to help the children od the AIPK Mission in Bolivia and to rise awareness about Diabetes, which can't be a limit to anyone. Fatally, on May 13, 2013 while riding on Mexico2 highway between Santa Ana and Altar, Sonora, he was hit by a truck after 16142 Km and 132 days. His 8 Italian and 2 Mexican friends are currently riding over the same tracks and are reaching the US border. 2 of them, T1Diabetics riders, will be in Nevada on Highway 50 by mid May 2022. Coming from Mexico through S.Diego, L.A.,Monterey, S.Francisco, South Lake Tahoe and entering Nevada in Silver Springs, Middlegate Station, Austin, Eureka, Ely, West Wendower etc. all the way to Salt Lake City. Then other 2 will go through Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana to Calgary, Canada where the last 2 will ride the remaining 2558 miles to reach Alaska and Prudhoe bay, on the Arctic Ocean. You may follow their GPs signal on trackleaders.com/hopemessage22, or view their Pics & Video on facebook.com/MauroTalini or ua-cam.com/users/TaliniMauro to ride with them and support our Road Safety, Diabetes awareness, Solidarity and Planet Safeguarding objectives, if you wish. I drove West through Nevada for the first time almost a year ago. Quite memorable was some of the best stargazing I’ve ever experienced in my life. Long stretches of highway with no lights offer a view of the sky you never get to see most places. Also, more mountains than I expected to see. Beautiful state!

The main reason for the Pony Express stations being fenced off is due to people taking some rocks as souvenirs and others knocking rocks out of the walls just because they could. To preserve the remaining walls intact they have to be protected from visitors. If you look closely at these places you will notice that the walls are not exactly left the way they were when they were first closed. Meaning; People were gradually dismantling the formed structure into nothing more than a pile of rubble.

I so much enjoyed this adventure! I am from BC Canada, I lost my dear old pops in 2017 at 87, he was prone to many adventures for all his life, several of which I was a part of, I wish that I had the tech then to document our trips, we always had so much fun, and saw so many things that few would ever see or understand, some of my best times in life.
When I watch videos like this I tend to get a bit maudlin, a tear or two, and such a flood of memories.
Please do more vids, I am subbing too, now off to finish watching this travel log :)
Cheers and all the very best, stay wise, stay healthy, stay as happy as can be all things considered!
    Thank You very much!

ok, here's my story of Route 50.
I'm from the UK and 3 friends and I all flew into San Fran to hire Harleys and take a 1800 mile road trip taking in Fortuna, the Redwoods, Route 50, Lake Tahoe, a couple of National Parks, down to Monument Valley and finally into Vegas where we were going to fly back from.
Day 2 of our trip was the part where we took Route 50, and trust me this place is BLEAK. Stunning landscapes but nothing apart from distant mountains, scrub and (probably) snakes.
With the highway being so empy we took turns in blasting out in front of the rest of the pack (4 of us in all) without our helmets on and enjoying the sun whilst various rock classics blasted out of the bike's stereos.
    Who wouldn't???
The guy who "organised" the trip mentioned in passing where we were heading motel name wise, but nothing more and didn't inform the other members of the party either. Great thinking huh?
Our phones weren't compatible in the US and even if they were I seriously doubt you'd manage anything resembling a signal out there.
So when I went blasting on ahead I must have gone straight past our turning which I think (with hindsight) was the 379.
After a while when they hadn't caught me up I pulled to the side of the road and waited for the guys.
    And waited.
    And waited.
After an hour I realised they weren't coming.
Now, if you aren't aware of it Harleys are huge gas guzzlers so in the middle of nowhere with only a third of a tank of gas and no map nor sat nav on my phone, I had no choice but to aim for the nearest town. This was Ely. There i would fill the bike up and ask if they knew where the motel was! Sound thinking.
Luckily managed to remember the name of the motel when the "organiser" mentioned it earlier in the day.
When I got to Ely I pulled into the first gas station on fumes and asked if they knew where the motel "whatever" it was called was. They did!!!!!....... but they also said I was about 100 miles away from it and it's near some old mine. They gave me some basic directions so I set off again back the way I came, it was now getting dark.
    And cold.
    VERY cold. :/
As I rode back along the 50 I saw a sign warning travellers of hitchhikers and that due to a maximum security penitentiary being in the area that hikers could be escaped criminals. This just keeps on getting better!
I kept on going getting more and more tired and nervous as I went.
I was now freezing cold and pitch black. I only had jeans, a t-shirt and a lightweight non-waterproof coat on.
Now, this was 2014 or 15 and the year of torrential rain and flash floods throughout Nevada and as I turned onto the 379 the heavens opened. The storm was wild!
Torrential rain, thunder and probably the most violent lightning I'd ever experienced! The rain was coming at me horizontally and at force. My helmet was open faced so I was getting blinded by the rain as it hit my eyes with enough force to make them bloodshot. I had no riding goggles only sunglasses and they'd be useless now it was fully dark.
I could barely see but there was nowhere to stop and it was getting colder. The lack of vision meant I could only do 15mph maximum as I was riding blind, with either scrub at one side of the very narrow road or huge drops on the other! This I did for a couple of hours. 😳 😳 😳
I was seriously thinking of giving up and potentially sleeping rough somewhere but EVERYWHERE was under half a foot of rainwater!!!
In the total pitch black I saw some distant lights behind me. As they got closer I realised it was a state trooper in a large 4x4! I'm saved!!
As he pulled me over he asked me my name and said that my friends had rang the Police as I had gone missing 5 or 6 hours earlier. He said he knew where they where staying and if I followed him we'd be there in about 20 minutes.
So I set off again. The cop didn't realise I could barely see and shot off ahead at about 60mph, he stopped for me and asked why I was going so slowly, I explained and he apologised but added that 20 minutes would be about an hour at my pace, or lack of. He shone a torch in my eyes and could see my eyes were bloodied.
I finally arrived at the motel (a weird soul-less faux retro 50's style thing, with a chequered floor and red seating near the mine) sometime around midnight. (If anyone knows this motel please let me know the name of it so I can look it up!)
I was freezing cold, soaked to the skin, could barely see and was absolutely exhausted. On reflection I could have easily died out there that night, as the tempertaures drop dramatically in the desert and the ensuing storm didn't exactly help.
The morale of the story is if you are travelling this Route MAKE SURE all your party know EXACTLY what the route is - oh, and get a better organiser as a friend! ;)

being a Pacific Northwestern road-trip lover, I have crossed central Nevada various times, having destinations as diverse as Nova Scotia, DC, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. The NW-to-SE route through Austin, getting you from Lakeview OR to Las Vegas, is equally full of spectacular "nothing and no one". One very special not-quite-Nevada site that surprised me with its quality and interest was the Historial National Park at Promontory UT, the last spike site for the transcontinental railway. I expected only a desolate windy view of a dormant track - but lo and behold, they have two fully functional and beautifully accurate replica 1869 locomotives, which on the day of our May 2019 visit were steamed up and actually moving!
