My grandmother grew up in Ely, before moving to a new upstart town called Las Vegas in 1940. She would often tell me stories about how Ely was more known than Las Vegas, and how her mail would often go to Las Vegas, New Mexico by mistake. I’ve never been given its location off the beaten path, but now that my 20s are out of my system, I hope to go sometime in the next few years.
What an incredible ride! I love the straightaways, endless mountain ranges and rural beauty. While it may be almost empty with people, you get reacquainted with nature. Awesome video!
About two years ago, when I was moving to Oregon from Arizona, we made a stop in Ely along US-93. I didn't get to see much of the Great Basin because we (my brother in law and I) drove straight through the night. The great basin is a gorgeous landscape.
I’ve driven this road many times as a State of Nevada employee. Responsible for responding to four rural counties. It is a nice drive. Just make sure your vehicle is reliable.
Kyle, this is my dream trip! Thank you so much for this set of three videos and for the taster it gives me of the wondrous landscape I can expect, should I ever make it. It's brilliant to see it in springtime with snow still on the mountain ranges. Greetings from Scotland. Lionel.
I know you driven on the "The Loneliest Road in America" several times during your 10+ years as a Road Warrior. But this is 1st time you gave us a full look into the road from Fallon to Ely- & even from Delta, UT too if you count that video from 2 years ago. Nonetheless, we should be grateful for Kyle for continuing to do these types of videos as many others for either semi-retired from making road videos or has stop making them altogether.
I was in Ely 7 wks ago (my 2nd time there). Was gunna eat at the Steakhouse Jailhouse but they were closed due to equipment failure. Major bummer because we drove all the way from Rachel. We settled on Denny's ☹️ since we were super hungry. On the bright side, we also visited the Ely charcoal Kilns/beehives. They look so cool and the history behind them are neat!!
There's also an argument for the Loneliest Road extending as far east as Fruita, Colorado. This is because even east of Delta, services are pretty sparse. I do not believe there is a decent-sized town between Salina, Utah and Fruita, a distance of over 200 miles.
Yeah. Carson City to Grand Junction is really a long haul with nothing Inbetween. All the cities and towns between Carson City and Grand Junction don’t even add up to the population of either city combined which is crazy to think about.
I drove to Fort Collins from Omaha last week and where Interstate 80 meets Interstate 76 near Big Springs Nebraska, it says I-80 East Omaha and Omaha 355 miles which seemed odd because North Platte was the main designated city in that area, Sidney to the west North Platte to the east and after North Platte there's Kearney, Grand Island and Lincoln all closer than Omaha in that area.
The Great Basin region is kind of an asiatic steppe climate like Mongolia. The Mojave in southeast California and the Sonoran regions in south Arizona are pretty much ‘desert’ climates🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@weirdshibainu I kind of expect the parts of Nevada off the interstates to be empty, but really, they're just empty of humans and water. There's plenty of stuff out there.

Thank you Kevin!
You have no idea how fun this route was in a LT-1 NHP Caprice.
My uncle and I did just that ! Thanks for the memory

Kyle, thank you for this video! I hope to travel it one day. We have such a beautiful country to explore! The empty parts are in some ways the best!
been through Ely twice both times coming north on 93, now thats a long straight lonely highway as well, from Panaca to Ely
I haven’t been on that stretch in over 10 years. US-93 from US-50 to Panaca that is.

Wow, this is such a beautiful drive, I'd love to follow in your wheeltracks one day. US-50 really is a trip through the wild blue yonder.
I highly recommend it. I must say it’s my favorite drive in Nevada.
And again a fine ride, thank you very much Kyle.
Love the transition from desert to greener lands.
Greets from the Netherlands!

Thank you I always appreciate your support and comments. It’s much appreciated!

Very interesting information you got here. Just wondering how these small communities in Nevada do for the living?
Awesome video! 👏
Thank you!
Looks like I would love it 👍
Is that crazy car race still on from Ely north?
Thanks for the trip!
Thanks Carl!
Still, quite a few more vehicles passed than expected, not so lonely after all…..

Man, US-50 acting as the main street in both Eureka and Ely would make these towns so much prettier if it wasn't 4-lane wide.

I’ve been here from Yerington and Nevada too Ely My daughter lives there and I am trying to move there it’s a beautiful town

I live in Nevada. Weird state. Either very densely populated or virtually empty.
Very true. I prefer the rural parts myself.
Us highway 50 must be a neat lookin highway to drive on
I live in Nevada. It would be a cool state if it received just a few more inches of rain per year.

@@cathrynm There is, but Nevada can always use more water.
You missed the rest of Ely by turning right. Come back
Wouldn't the loneliest road be The Alaskan Hwy? In Canada it's Hwy 144 north of Sudbury.
Life Magazine wrote the article in 1986 about this road and gave it the nickname the Loneliest Road in America.
