My favorite tip was "the stitch line". I can see that as a huge mistake I have made filming!! I have the X3 and also the One RS 1 inch. I bought over my skill level with the One RS 1 inch ... sort of. Still, I like them both and especially as I am finally understanding how to reframe as well as the editing work flow. My advice to others starting out (even though no one asked 🙂) would be to shoot short 10-15 second clips and practice reframing plus the other editing options. I initially became overwhelmed trying to edit longer, even 2-3 minute clips and made more progress working on shorter clips.
I ordered the x3 last night actually. I had the x2 and loved it for motorcycle videos. It's just so convenient to use. I have it mounted on my handlebars on the extendable selfie stick, and press record whenever there's anything interesting. The long batttery life helps a lot too!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. One tip that I have seen that is worth repeating is "Protect those lenses!" ... They protrude from the camera body and are easily scratched when they are not covered.
You mention using the stitch line to help conceal the selfie stick (which is essential for 360 as otherwise you fill half of the 360 image holding the camera) although the camera will remove ‘most’ of the stick from any part of the image (you can sometimes see a smudge around the hand holding the stick). But this advice contradicts the very good point about ensuring the subject is not in line with the stitch … presuming of course you might be the subject. Your clip of walking by the lakeside has the camera at about 45 degrees to you, so the selfie mid-point between centre and stitch line. Is this a best compromise?
I adore these cameras, they're wonderful. Though they do struggle a little with low-level lighting and distance. The 'remove grain' feature in export works well on removing noise, though. I also discovered that it removes any black selfie stick from the shot. Even a motorbike handlebar mount or a traditional tripod. They both disappeared when I used them.
@@LearnOnlineVideo took mine to NYC in April. I can watch my whole holiday over again in VR. You even see things you didn't see the first time around as you sit in your swivel chair and look around the city again and again. ♥️
What I want to know is how much post editing is necessary? How much time will I *have* to spend to make a shot presentable. Are there remote microphones? How close can they get to a subject.
Something he didn’t mention that people should be aware of before buying it, is that the size of the videos are huge. I have the 64gigs in mine and that gets me a little over 1 hour of footage and is about 110 gigabytes in size. Which comes down to around 1 gigabytes for ever minute of footage.
Hey Profesional, you're great. You helped me to improve my videography much better, I've no gimble for my smartphone, I use tripods instead of that. Yeah that is harder but you teached me about using basic things. Thanks for your much support to avarage people like us who is dreaming to buy a camera and a gimble☺️
Coming from always have a gopro to this.. I'm hesitant but interested to find out how everything works on this badboy!! Thanks for the tips.. Happy filming
Thanks for the great tips! I just got my x3 so still learning to use it. One thing I'm trying to figure out is why I can only seem to export clips off the App at 1080p when I'm shooting in 4k.
Thanks ever so much for this video.. I bought an Insta 360 One X2 last year and NEVER use it. I have decided to use it solely for our members videos as it is, as you say, quick and easy to edit on the app. If you could make more content on the use of 360 video, I'd be very grateful! All the best and keep the excellent content coming! - Daz.
Such an interesting video and you did a wonderful job. I am a professional photographer (45+ yrs) and I have a question and an idea for you. I was wondering how this camera might work as a dash cam? It seems that it would capture a wider view, in front, on the sides (if anyone should T-Bone your car) and it captures a view of the back. My only concern would be the resolution and night vision. Would it be able to adequately read a license plate from the car ahead of mine? Or be able to see a plate at night? Thanks again for your great video.
Superb as always Steve - super helpful and helped make my decision to buy the X3! As a metal detectorist I am trying to drive my videos forward & truly believe this bit of kit is going to really help! Thanks again, Marcus

Great video! Do you by any chance have a link for a good car mount? I can't find on Amazon. Is the tripod also invisible like the selfie stick? I'm looking for one of those for 360 tours too.
do you have to pay a yearly or monthly fee for the app and the help with editing ? what are the feature differences to edit by a smartphone or doing it on an actual PC or laptop? what are the feature differences in the app between laptop and smartphones? thanks for letting us know more of how the editing side of this camera works! :) great video!
No need to pay at all! You can download the app to see what's in it. I have only use the PC a few times but still the phone app is easier to use. They even have some free filters for you to use, I can't find that on PC. PC probably just have bigger screen.
Great explanations, thanks! But what about post-editing? How much RAM do you need in your PC? Is 8GB sufficient? And about post-editing with your smartphone? What is the weight of 1min footage?
Great to see you suing the 360 X3, great tips. I love how creative you are.... got my X3 last week and I'm going to Disneyland soon.. oh what fun it will be.
Have been looking so long for someone to really test it in the surf and now I stumbled across your video by accident. Great! That was a cool angle in the barrel. Wasnt the camera feeling a bit big when using with the Mouth Mount because it is so much higher/longer than a GoPro style camera?
Thank you for this Buddy! Can I use 'any' selfie stick to have it be 'invisible', or must it be a specific stick/model to get the invisible effect? I ask because I wish to get a Manfrotto that's much more sturdy than the apparently flimsy ones used for these cameras. I couldn't imagine hanging this camera over a cliff or bridge with a flimsy stick. Thanks so much for your time Sir!
As long as the selfie stick isn't wider than the cameras stitch line then ANY selfie stick or extension pole will be removed in the edit. Hope that helps my friend.
I'm sure you're a busy guy Steve, so I'm extremely grateful for you taking the time to reply. That's a big help. Thanks heaps again, you're awesome!@@LearnOnlineVideo

One thing to note is that the waterproof can be dangerous, I have seen comments saying their camera broke right after they put it in water, this is all done at your own risk! It's better to get a waterproof case as I don't think they are going to cover the warranty.
I have the GoPro Max, for me it's the being able to change the view in post. Made a few mistakes with the stitch line on my first few times using it. I really like the insta360 cameras but find the app really difficult to use.
Thanks Steve. These are always good tips and you explain it so well. However, I had to wince at you holding a long selfie stick over a railway line. Around here all the lines are electric powered and leaning over a railway line is quite lethal.
Thanks @JRLNeal, glad you enjoy all the tips. In hindsight, going over the rail line was a silly move. It was a spontaneous shot, and sometimes when I'm shooting on the go, I get too focused on being creative and don't think enough about safety. This has been a good reminder of that.
Best video on this camera I’ve seen. I’m trying to give my YT videos that extra bump and you explained features with the app no one has. Also how to shoot 360😅

Curious about the water proofing. What's your advice for taking it in saltwater? So you recommend getting that dive case to protect it? I've read others say it's not good in saltwater and needs immediate rinsing in fresh water etc. I was just in Mexico and brought my brand new X3 but was too worried about the saltwater so I bought the dive case, but I'm disappointed in the footage from in the case, it doesn't stitch it out well despite the setting being enabled, and the case fogs up so quickly that half my footage was ruined because I didn't notice the fogging! What's your suggestion for saltwater? Thanks!
As always the best info comes from you here. One thing, one too I wished you'd cover was how can you edit the footage to straighten out the curved edges? I absolutely hate the fish eye look and wish action cameras would stop making that default. Can they not program software to eliminate that during recording or processing before the file is available? So are you able to straighten it without losing too much and how do you go about doing that? Thanks!
Hi Steve! Your videos are very inspiring and useful! The quality of your videos is much better than some others on UA-cam who use the same camera. Do you have any post-processing tips you can share?
THanks for the info!! I am jsut getting back into marketing after being out of the game for a few years. I lvoe the idea of this camera but I am scared of editing! Just so I know what to plan for, what editing software is best to use for editing 360 videos?
Regarding to the stitch line, when I do a walk-through shot ( drone shot) going from low to high. Which position would be best? Positioning with lens one point up and another point down or side to side? Or I should rotate the cam while moving to face the subject that I want to focus on? Thank you for the tips. And please I am open to all with great advice!
Just imagine there will be a line right there. So you put your best subject out of those lines as much as possible so you can cut out your favourite shots.
Seriously thinking of getting one of these. Thanks for some great tips! How easy is the app to use and is there a desktop version for those of us with PC's? I find most editing apps on a phone very fiddly and not so great for noticing errors.

X2 has better battery? My X3 battery life is weak. I just bought a powered selfie stick for longer shooting life
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. One tip that I have seen that is worth repeating is "Protect those lenses!" ... They protrude from the camera body and are easily scratched when they are not covered.
And there is a special coating on the lenses so you cannot use a dremel and glass polish to get scratches out. I tried and failed.
