It's finally here. My remastered walkthrough for the most famous hack, Super Metroid Redesign created by Drewseph. This game has a love and hate relationship for everyone who's a fan of Metroid hacks. Let's be honest, if it wasn't for this hack the Metroid hacking community wouldn't be as popular since this was the hack that brought people into Metroid hacks. I'm not trying to cause controversy but I think this hack deserves respect than what most people gave it.
That being said I'm really happy you guys voted for this game to be played again. It need a severe updated due to its bad video quality and the fact I didn't even finish descriptions!
I've now added something new in my videos from this point forward. An item counter! So that way we can keep in track how many items are left to pickup in the game. I hope you guys like it!
I've got nothing much to say on the first part of this video. However for the first 2 Energy Tanks if you skip them, they will appear at the elevator to Norfair. The reason I skipped the first one is to avoid grinding for energy for the heated run section when I get to the elevator. Also when you grab the Energy Tank from Red Brinstar, the hatch to Norfair's elevator will be unlocked so DO NOT go fight Kraid for better routing. Enjoy!

I wish we could ask Doctor M 64 for the AM2R developer source code so we can remaster Super Metroid using the same engine.
Look for scooter boots metroid engine and see what you can do from there
Great idea, I like it!, with that engine the possibilities are infinites 😲
id love that game made into an n64 rom, that console needs some metroid love 💖
AM3R?
wakey wakey, am2r source code is out
Dude you have the patience of a Saint to play through this all over again a second time! I remember you mentioning you broke a controller at one point during you first playthrough of SMR.
I remember when I FINALLY made it to the halfway point during the hell run I literally was jumping up and down and shouting with glee and triumph. I had only 1 energy remaining. I honestly don't know how many attempts it took to get to the halfway point. It was all because of the wall jumping. Or stupid shit like Samus randomly deciding to kneel when I didn't want her to(im guessing that was my fault though).
Personally, I didn't like this hack so much. I really didn't like the way they designed wall jumping, how they made the morph ball slow, and general game design. Even regular jumping feels stiff and reluctant. Challenge is good, but this hack made me feel like the devs stuck only to "harder equals better" with everything. That Norfair run is fucking bullshit. The first time I beat the Norfair run, it took at least half an hour, and then because the hack doesn't remember when you saved at save stations, I had to do it all over again from the emulator save. I didn't feel happy when I beat it anyway, I just wanted to break something.
25:57 and here was when I understood this hack was literally impossible for me, specially on a 3Ds, I give up on this... Thing
Nice video though, I'll play it just by watching you lol
9:51 jump Not possible....
Parabéns Super KB, excelente trabalho! 🕹🙋🏻♂️🇧🇷
Questions on Original Redesign vs Axeil 1.4/1.5 edition:
1. Which has easier water physics, like for instance, acceleration in the water? Which version is easier when it comes to Maridia?
2. Which version has better ball physics, more controlability/quicker to morph ball?
3. Which version has an easier infinite bomb jump?
4. Which version has a faster rate of firing Super Missiles?
5. Which version has an easier Tourian?
Axeil 1.4/1.5 are out dated. FINAL is the version to use. you can get it at drewseph.metroidconstruction.com
Final makes tourian easier, fixes water movement, easier bombs, better control and physics.
The only current changes going into FINAL, are bug fixes such as discovered soft locks.
@@Drewseph0011 Does "arm pumping" still slow you down, like in a previous Axeil version?
@@occultprophecies no. I found the location of the pixel advancement in code and removed it. Arm pumping now does nothing speed wise. But there are other new speed tricks.
@@Drewseph0011 Would you consider ever doing a Redesign version with normal Super Metroid physics?
@@occultprophecies no, that's what vanilla is for. Redesign is designed on the physics. That would break the game.
I will be getting this version soon. I did earlier this month get the ancient chozo ones but stuck on the craid part where go to get the varia suit. My nerves are to old and cant get past this part. I have 4 tanks and the spazer but cant handle all the jumping around. Anyway this version looks better.
Gibt es überhaupt ein super metroid rom hack ohne wall jump?
App: " It Is The Beast 3D Cards ".
Love/ hate relationship with this hack is 100% accurate. Axeil edition is far superior though.
I came here to second that. Axeil is the official version to me.
@@Drewseph0011 I'm currently playing through axeil edition right now. I'm so glad that grapple pit death trap from hell is heavily modified! I'm up to the part where you get speedbooster.
@@Drewseph0011 AGREE
Love this channel! Just subscribed! I'm a very average SM player: I have a few hacks on cart that I love and have beaten. I'm really thinking of getting a Redesign cart off eBay. In Redesign, do you have to know all the speed booster tricks to beat the game? Or can you get through with basic skills?
To clear normally any%
- Wall Jump
- Double Bomb Jump
And that's it!
To 100% it Speed Booster tricks and Infinite Bomb Jumping are required. I have a tutorial video on Speed Boosting in the description.
Please, for the sake of your sanity, I STRONGLY encourage you to play axeil edition over the original super metroid redesign. I'm saying this as someone that painstakingly made it up to ridley in the original SMR before taking a very long break. I still haven't gone back to it. Axeil edition is by far much more manageable for average super metroid players that can't do all those speedrunning techniques. It literally took 4 HOURS of nonstop practice before I was finally able to wall jump on a more consistent basis in the original smr. The original smr almost broke me (looking at you grapple pit death trap from HELL!!!). I will say it's a lot harder to find on cartridge though.
@@GirlGamer867 agree
is it possible that you shorten the time of those messages every time you get a missile tank?
its the only thing i don't like on super metroid
Not on this one. Axeil Edition improved this.
I thought Hydellius was awful with the shit wall jumping, until I played THIS hack. This has got to have THE WORST wall jumping of all the hacks I've played. WTAF where the DEVS thinking with THIS shit? Take the most useless aspect of Metroid, (being the AWFUL wall jumping), and make it WORSE? If you're going to call a hack "redesign", and make the wall jumping THIS bad, it's no WONDER this franchise falls so short in sales...
Was Hydellius that bad? I was thinking of giving it a shot
i remember that you had started hollow knight, and now those vids are gone, may i ask why?
Mostly because the walkthrough turned out to be a mess to me. Mainly because it was in the middle of my 365 challenge. I was originally gonna try again with a much prepared playthrough but I realized nobody wasn't looking forward to that game. That's why I started a poll to see what people really wanted and they never voted for it! I may go back to it but I don't know when.
Also fuck that 5th Pantheon. XD.
I never truly beaten the final boss from that Pantheon and i was trying go for a more dramatic finish but failed every time I reached him.
@@SuperKB i was looking forward to it, and wasn't aware there was a vote in the first place, oh, well, that said i like the upgrade count on the side of the screen this vid, think it could be a stay for all future playthroughs of yours?
@@fenniken5381 Yup!
…why?
NO!
Been watching a little more and its super good play, Againt the ancuent chozo verison has the bosses to accelerated its crazy.
How can i play this? on What Console? is it Pc?
Favorite Super Metroid Rom Hack
16 bit does not = 4k
Is it harder than Axeil?
This game is hard
I personally don't like much this hack most because I'm very used to with the original liberty, you know wall jumps in any place at any moment, IBJ, sequence break literally everytime. In that case I prefer hyper metroid because all that still there with new things like shinespark more controlable
But I not gonna lie this hack is very fun and had effort to well redesign the entire game but maintain the Basic aspects, I wish some others games like zero mission and fusion had this, at least is not super zero mission THAT COMPLETE BULLSHIT!
Speaking on which have you heard on zero mission hack called super metroid gba? Essencially is zero mission with super lyout with some changes, is just great how they did with that!
no me funcionó
Спасибо братиш.
I beat this years ago and loved every second, though I remember it being ridiculously hard. I wonder which version I played 🤔
This hack is garbage lol. Never understood why people liked it
Me too 😑
It’s because the game physics are more like MZM and not the floaty nonsense of SM
I’ve always loved this ROM Hack because it changes the game to behave like MZM, which is my favorite and most-played Metroid game
This game wasn't enjoyable at all. Anoying frustrating physics. An insaine amount of shooting enemys. Running long ways just to reach a dead end because not right equipment.
