Can I hook up my older Roku device and still use the remote from my Roku Ultra? I can’t go back to using batteries in my remote, but I don’t think my older Roku dismissed my shows as I was watching them 🤷♀️

Never in my life have I used a remote control for a TV that the battery only lasts a few (weeks).... until I bought dumb TV. Even if you set all that stuff to off... they still collect and sell your data. The only option to prevent that is to not connect your TV to the internet. Best thing is to use a prior MS OS that isn't just a massive piece of malware like 8-11, install it on an old PC, and connect that PC to your TV. Now your TV is truly smart and not a tyrant to the user. Plus the best thing about that is you don't have to toggle through a list... you can just point and click.

NOT that we can do much about it. IF you are connected to the web AND buy/use modern devices, it's ALL designed to "connect" & "communicate".
"Disabling" software choices doesn't _Remove_ the data collect & communicate fascets
Snowden did it right by literally unsoldering microphones in his cell etc
NOT that everyone can LIVE in that level of paranoia
..... I'm just saying-- it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to stop the devices unless they are TOTALLY disconnected from the web / with NO PHYSICAL way to provide feedback
we need ALL NEW types of hardware that HONESTLY respect privacy

I have bad news…every one of your devices are rigged to spy on you. My Apples are loaded with spy worms. Drones are spy tools too, and your most private moments are not so private unless you close your curtains first.
@@DogMomCMF I rarely ever buy batteries for TV remotes. If my mouse, flashlight, other gadget dies, there is still more than enough energy in those batteries to power a remote.

That is any smart device you use. Your phone is the biggest issue that is in your business at all times.
If you have to call a device SMART, it's definitely not smart.

Thank for explaining the roku payment method. I know people that when setting up their up their roku and not being familiar on how it worked the people they talked too told them they had to set up the payment method through them. I was confused when l heard that because l never had that happen to me although l had my method payment setup with Netflix since l was using that service at that time. Now l Can better explain to people that they don’t have to set up the payments through Roku and to do it through the streaming companies the are going to use.
First time here, and I'm pretty happy I already don't use those features! There is no way that my phone, or my television, or my truck for heaven's sake, should be listening to me. I bought a little tv for my she-shed, and it is a smart tv, the only one the store had that was small, and it is the most annoying thing EVER. It tries to tell me what to do instead of the other way around. In the winter, I basically use it as a speaker, plugging it in to my laptop so I can hear an audio book or something while I'm washing dishes, etc. It's always trying to sell me a channel or something. My other tv's, with the Roku, wait for me to tell them what to do like well mannered appliances.

I can no longer use my Roku TV, because the legal team has downloaded a no option to comply arbitration agreement. Basically, if you do not hit accept that you will not ever sue Roku, your Roku TV will never be able to used again. It does not give you an option to opt out. For it thos morning on my tv. The legal teal hijacked my tv.
What is our country coming to? How can they even legally do this, I bought this tv.
Did the same thing to us…. Strongarming! Not right! They have a right not to let you watch “roku” tv but have no right blocking you from your other paid apps…. Never even thought of suing til NOW!

Roku is garbage. No good streaming apps, blocked streaming apps. Its not user friendly at all. I moved to chromecast Google tv, and has been my go-to for streaming for years.
Such clauses are not in fact legal and binding.

Years ago, I did this and unplugged my tv, camera can't work, voice record won't work. Spying on me stopped. I stopped answering phone calls . the caller will leave a message or leave a text message. If I don't want that number to call back, I block the number. My phone is for my convenience only , not unsolicited sales calls. The same as trespassing on your physical property, harassment. I even cover the device to interrupt turning my device on remotely trying to use these features while I'm asleep and placing in another room from their toxicity. If they can't see or hear that saves you from being spied on visually without your knowledge .
340 million people in the united states spying through a roku or smart TV that's something way out there. I feel sorry for people who are so disturbed by those thoughts.

One of the things I love about the Roku is how straight-forward the home screen layout is. It's just a list of apps and a menu. I hate my Fire TV and Onn Android TV devices, they're both so cluttered that not only is it hard to navigate and find what the hell I'm looking for but the device is lagging due to all that crap on the screen. They're also full of bloatware you can't uninstall. I have the same complaints about the last couple generations of game consoles.
They design them that way. Which is why they no longer teach critical thinking in schools. They must keep the kids so stupid they will never figure out they've been duped.
fire tv is a nightmare for my parents.

One Roku 'feature that we don't like is how the TV dies almost exactly at the 2 year mark. They need to fix that problem.

I have a question for anyone with a roku. Mine is a roku 2. It's about 10yrs old. Last year it started skipping, just a bit. Now, it skips every time I fast forward or rewind something I'm viewing. After I watch a few videos, it gets so bad that I have to reset it. I have two reset it 2x a day. I did a factory reset, did not help. All up dates are up to date. I turned off all the crap these videos say so.
My question, is it just out dated and would purchasing a new unit work like this one did? Or is there something else I need to do?

There is no guarantee that they actually go by your chosen settings and switch off microphone.
Might be a placebo for peace of mind for those who are bothered to check the settings yet not too tech sway.
Roku made it sound as if I had to set up a credit card. didnt see an option to decline. So I used paypal. Not sure if I misunderstood. But at least its paypal.

You got that effing right! Need to start using gift cards more so companies stop tracking my purchases. Store security cameras have facial recognition. Even touchpads record your fingerprints.

Uh... I purchased a Roku TV last week without knowing about this. However, mine is completely different. It doesn't have all of these options.

The light bulbs in my den records our conversations i believe ìts china they flicker morse code when their finished i put foil on the base of the lamp.I can put foil inside my ball cap it helps with space lasers.Thanks for the tips you cant be safe enough.😊

When my daughter got me my first Roku TV I would turn it off at night and wake up when it turned itself on so I would take and switch off the television on a switch on a extension cord and it would turn it back on after that I just put a cover over the top of it a very heavy rug stop turning on so much
Roku payment method. Not to mention Roku got hacked and thousands of users credit card info got stolen.

I am going “crazy” trying to STOP my Roku Ultra from dismissing the show I’m watching just cuz there has been no activity 🤬 Nothing works!!!! Turning off Bandwidth Saver does not work. Unchecking 20 min Auto Power Saving does not work!!! Disable Screensaver does not work!! I do not have a smart TV. Help….
Might be the app you're watching and not your Roku. I mainly watch Pluto TV and it has a setting to "pause playback when idle" after a few hours. I turn it off but it magically resets itself every few weeks. I agree about it being super annoying.
My daughter has a Roku TV and it turns off at the same time every night. She says she has looked it up and others with the same model tv have the same issue.

What will you buy then to stream? Apple TV> Amazon FireTV stick? Google TV? Because ALL of those are WAAAYYY worse. What I do recommend if you dont want any of these, is to make Bookmarks of Web TV appls like PlutoTV, Tubi, Crackle, Xumo, The Roku Channel...using Google Chrome, Brave or Chromium browsers to turn them into Apps instantly! than your PC becomes like a ROKU of sorts....also there is KODI
I unwittingly got screwed by buying a roku TV. There's no way to hook up a normal set of speakers to them. There's no headphone jack, regular Bluetooth doesn't work, and even the optical output is incompatible with mainstream speakers. Never again will I buy one.

My ONN soundboard works just fine with the Roku. But it's not connected to Internet. I just use a movable HDMI antenna on a 20 ft pole.

A few years back i had a pair of ruku's. I frigging hated them. I would set my stream provider preference to a standard definition stream and i would set roku to standard definition. But the roku device would invariably suck up the most data possible. That forced me to buy a unlimited data package from my isp or else i would see occasional surcharges to my monthly isp bill for additional 10GB blocks of data. Roku sucks.
