Thing about the Tiny Chao Garden is that its a means to an end more than its own thing. As a garden? Meh. As a way to unlock bonuses and take your favorite Chao with you to level up? Its great!
The Chao garden is about half of my childhood. The music, the absurdly complicated systems, the grinding for animals, the races, it's just all from a time that probably won't come back. For the tiny Chao garden on GBA, it's a little strange. The rubber duck always swims into the corner over time and there are ridiculously expensive eggs like at 14:21, but they vanish before anyone can reasonably acquire enough rings. My Chao has maxed out stats there, but sadly they can't evolve, making it kind of pointless without the Gamecube gardens. I played the Sega Superstars Chao garden ages ago and from what I remember it was fine, but I really don't know much about it anymore. The EyeToy camera is also not very reliable in my experience. And of course, there are the Chao gardens in Sonic Chronicles and Shadow the Hedgehog, but you can be forgiven for omitting them.
You forgot about the Chao Garden in Sonic Chronicles; sure it's an instant E rank with how basic it is, but it would still be pretty funny seeing it ranked alongside the others.
The Chao Garden in Sonic Chronicles was view only. Chao were mere power-ups that function similar to badges. Yet Chao acting as power-ups would be cool.
From what I remember, you can't throw chao off the mystic ruins DC version. I believe there's an invisible wall for them, but it's been a while since I've played the Dreamcast games.
No, you can. I did it many years (like 20ish) ago. It think it destroys the chao because I did it to the one egg that spawned there. It spawned a new egg after I checked if the chao respawned where the player does and then left and came back in.
Can't tell you how many times I fell asleep to the Hero Garden music when I was a kid. I wish I could find more remixes/covers on it. I usually just see ones for the Neutral Garden, which aren't bad, I love the music, but the Hero Garden's theme is just different. Also, it's criminal you didn't mention the fact that the Hero Garden literally sits within the altitude of pink cotton clouds. There's even a mini island nearby with a bell that rings every now and then. Literally feels like you're in Heaven.
I love playing the actual Sonic Adventure DC Chao Garden. It's very basic but it's really charming and ridiculously easy to get a Chaos Chao out of with the VMU.
I had no idea there were alternate hero/dark gardens on the Dreamcast. The GameCube dark garden always disappointed me and I never used it. The Dreamcast version looks amazing
My older brother had SA2 on dreamcast and i got SA2B as my first game for gamecube. It was a disappointing downgrade that I've still never gotten over lol. Karate and the black market were game changing though so it's bittersweet.
Yeah, tiny chao garden is my favorite so I don't have to play the stages. I got a bunch of lvl 99 chao there. It's fun because when you transfer them to the gamecube for the races, they are still in their baby forms.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who wanted to play in the dreamcast garden. I was excited to play on the gardens when i found out on how to mod the game last year. Also did u know that the original sonic advance chao garden had a ring glitch that if u deleted your save data u had to match your ring count the one in the chao garden, or else it would never bank your rings after you finished a stage. They fixed this though in the re-release versions like the pinball and advance double pack.
You do such a great work that i'm here hooked for 15 minutes watching a tier list of a game that i've never played lmao. I hope one day I can start my chao garden and follow some of your tips
idk if it's valid to say the Dreamcast gardens look graphically subpar when you are running them through the SADX port that messed up all the lighting. They look a lot better on the OG hardware.
I remember being smitten with all the cool chao's I saw online, but even with guides it was a mystery to my young brain how this magic was supposed to work. Like a Hero Run/ swim chao for example. Also raising a single chao would take me so much time, by the time I was done with the second one it usually reincarnated. To prevent this I would put finished chao in a seperate garden. When I discovered the infinite drive/animal glitch I had a Chao Garden comeback, this makes the whole experience much more enjoyable IMO.
One thing worth mentioning about the DX Mystic Ruins is how easy it is to just dump all of the animals you collected into the water. It's a real pain trying to get all of them out of the water.
Fun fact: Chao Garden HAD A VERY HIGH CHANCE to be on official roblox sonic game, files for the kindergarten are in sonic speed simulator for a half of year now, but, sadly it was never used. I just hope they didn't cut chao garden because I love this feature...
i MUCH prefer the second version of the Tiny Chao Garden as it had a way better minigame in a sort of columns shooter puzzle game and the Chao can swim and fly around. It is great.
Yeah you could just jump straight over the fence and die in that version. I think you could also throw Chao over the fence too. Not sure if they just re spawned or flat out die never to return.
I do really like the Dark Garden, can't put my finger on why. I don't overly enjoy the music as it is too repetitive as the loop is a lot shorter. I grew up with the Battle version, and I wish I had the cave, however, I would love if the tree from the Battle version was on top of the cave, I like the big tree and the decorations. The hill and cave from of original seem a bit barren in my opinion. I primarily do Dark Chao as my main Chao, and the most likely reason for my love of the Dark Garden is due to my two older brothers having their Chao in the Hero Garden and claiming that as their realm. So the Dark Garden was my Realm, plus I love the spooky aesthetic. Funnily enough my second oldest brother was the first to make a Dark Chao thus unlocking the Dark Garden, while his Chao was in the Hero Garden already unlocked by my oldest brother. My Chao was the first to be in the Dark Garden and be its ruler.
My memory is foggy, as this would be 20-ish years ago now, but I definitely remember being able to yeet myself off the edge of the Mystic Ruins garden on the console version. Probably Dreamcast, but my recollection of both the DC and GC versions run together a lot. xD
The SA1DC versions of the Mystic Ruins and Egg Carrier Gardens are solid E tiers IMO because Chao can spawn in terrain and animals can easily get stuck somewhere unreachable.
I never liked the SA1 DC gardens. Now Station Square garden is okay but sometimes the Chao get stuck on the fountain area and behind the VMU transport machine which makes them unreachable. Mystic Ruins garden suffered from an annoying glitch where sometimes Chao would spawn inside the ruins or the giant rock making them unreachable so you had to exit and re-enter hoping they'll spawn somewhere else so glad they fixed this glitch in the DX version. Also yes you could flat out jump over the cliff fence and die. Egg Carrier garden with the water being far too deep not did this make Chao unreachable if they swam out too far unless you knocked them to the shore by attacking them (which you don't want as Chao can die very fast from abuse in SA1 DC) but the animals also had a habit of walking into the water where they fall past a barrier making them unreachable and thereby wasting them. Heck if you had 10 animals 2 automatically get tossed in the water due to the spawning point and the direction the animals launch out of the character is always the same. And you can't just exit and re-enter because animals vanish the minute you exit regardless if they were used yet or not on DC forcing you to go back and get more from a stage.

Not as bad, but a lot of waiting around for ai to bring the tiny animal within pick up distance. I have also died a lot in the garden, and the city square one. City square I usually died falling through the elevator.
One thing I want to mention. As I recall, you do not need the Sonic Advance game to get to the Tiny Chao garden. I never got the Advance series on GBA, but I was still able to transfer, use and collect items that were in the TCG all the same. Now of course there was no way to directly save to anything without transferring the Chao back to the GC since there was no game, but I definitely remember doing a little bit to get the few items from the GBA that were not buyable in the GC alone for my Chao. All that said, maybe I'm completely wrong. I do have an action replay for the GameCube so maybe that was the reason instead? I could probably go over and test to see before I type all this out too lol but I'm like 90% sure my memory is correct.
I didn't have sonic advance but I could use the tiny garden with my GBA, no action replay! Haha I remember I bought a silver chao because it was the most expensive I could afford and the batteries were running down. I think that was the only jewel chao I managed to nab on old hardware.
You're remembering correctly. The Gameboy Advance era had a lot of instances where you could just straight up download truncated versions of games onto the system to play for a bit if you linked it to a gamecube game or conected with someone with the physical copy of the game.
Had the modern gardens had the design and ambitions of the earlier DC gardens while retaining their upgraded quality, we would've been golden. Of course I'm thankful for the mere existence of the product regardless, but there really were a lot of low hanging fruit easily missed. Hearing you mention the DX Dark Garden as the "last garden" hurt.....when will they give us back the treasured relic we've wanted? (I miss my old chao)
what sega should do >Release a new sonic game with a chao garden, but... >Free app, with in-app purchases that HAS the chao garden for on the go, so if you're not at home you can raise your chao and transfer it back to main game. The app has extra eggs, costumes, etc that you can either pay with real money or coins in game...or buy coins in shop. A companion app would do wonders.
Is that what the Hero Garden in SA2B Steam version looks like? The Dark Garden is slightly different too! It's slightly different from the GC version! That was interesting to see! Or is that one of the mods?
I'm not sure if its cause its modded or what, but that Hero Garden from SA2B is a bit different to the original... The pillar in the back @10:06 should be fallen over. I'd always stick my chao behind it when i wanted to level them quickly with the animal/drive glitch.
I have the sonic super star game, The chao garden was in credible bare bones, you didn't raise it you just pet it and play with it a little and that's it. Goes in E tier imo
Sa1 gardens on dc(the real hardware) are all s tier because in that game their growth isnt capped so as long as u keep raising stats the second evolution continues changing their colors and heads keep growing. You can get some super cool looking chao. No one ever talks about this for some reason... bugs the crap out of me.
In the Modern Xbox360Version Hero Garden, my chao arent able to take the stairs, and jump in water or fly around. Jesterday i remembered about them sleeping on that platform. At all and with the Bright Chao, and without Gold, Silver etc im not sure if i like this version. I also swear in Gamecubes Metal Harbour you could find Phoenixes under those yellow working helmets or what they are, in xbox many of those items who had secret animals inside, like tires etc, seems removed. Makes me sad
My hunch is that they nerfed the Dreamcast gardens because it might have made it harder to find your chao (Under the bridge or in the cave in SA2, and the Eggman SA1 garden's hill was flattened, and ruins simplified). Its dumb and annoying, but its the only reason I can think of. I grew up with Gamecube and I liked the Dark Garden the most. Partially because I could put Team Sonic and Team Dark in the cage, partially because it took me forever to unlock the hero garden (I tended to visit the garden with Dark characters, and I didn't realise how the gardens were unlocked) and also partially because I liked edgy stuff. I didn't know about the Dreamcast versions until I played that version in...2018? I immediately felt robbed, the Dreamcast versions are so much better.
The DC Mystic Ruins garden had a glitch which made chao spawn inside the giant rock making them unreachable. Also the water in the DC Egg Carrier garden was way too deep. Can't reach chao unless you directly hit them to knock them towards the shore (which is not good because they die very easily from abuse in this version) and the animals half the time walk and fall into the water beyond a point where they are unreachable and thus wasting them because animals vanish regardless if they have been used up by a chao or not in this version.
SADX neutral garden on D tear uff that hurts in my opinion its THE garden i grew up with this one and i wasnt able to play sa2b til 3 years ago cause my parents allways said they are short and dont even know where to find this old game so seeing the SA2B garden and the physics n everything is so unusual for me that i rather tend to play SADX for the chao garden
20 emblems unlock a multiplayer mode. There are 120 Emblems in total, which unlock the Expert Race. If you A-Rank all 120 of them, you get Super Hard Mode
So i am the only one who loves the Dark Chao Garden in SA2B? 😓😂 I like the Dark Atmosphere. Of course the DC one is far better, but i only had an GC so i was happy with it 😅 Nowadays im only using the Hero Garden because of the Fruits (they give more exp for stamina)
The SA2 (dc) normal garden that you showed is NOT indicative of what the actual garden looks like in the original game. The trees are wrong, the grass texture is wrong, the cave entrance actually glows in the original game and not sa2b, and I'm pretty sure there are no flowers either. Edit: just double checked, and yes, there were only 2 trees by default, and no flowers
My weird ass ranking 13. Gba Chao garden (Sa2) 12. Mystic ruins Garden (Sadx) 11. Mystic ruins Garden (Sa1) 10. Station Square Garden (Sa1) 9. Dark garden (Sa2b) 8. Station Square Garden (Sadx) 7. Idk why the dreamcast for 2 just had better gardens. I played both sonic adventures on the dreamcast. I was definitely disappointed when I played the GameCube version of 2 after playing 2 on the dreamcast. I just remember asking myself where's the bridge in the hero garden and where's the mountain and the cave in the dark garden on battle? Lol
Hmmm, ok I wouldn't play a chao game on the cellphone...Unless it's compatible with a game on the switch, kind of like how they did Crystal Chronicles playable with a cellphone for multiplayer

How could you miss the Sega Superstars Chao Garden?
You must have missed the part where i talked about it
Sa1 gardens on dc(the real hardware) are all s tier because in that game their growth isnt capped so as long as u keep raising stats the second evolution continues changing their colors and heads keep growing. You can get some super cool looking chao. No one ever talks about this for some reason... bugs the crap out of me.
in the DC mystic ruins garden you can jump off the cliff and throw chao but i think they just disappear if you throw them
I played the chao garden in sonic superstars, it is unbearably pared down so the nolvety of being able to pet your chao yourself runs out very fast :(
Bro said cho wha
When I played the ps3 version of sonic adventure one thing I really didn't like was the sound design of it mostly the music being too loud.
The only reason they took away the stuff in the GameCube version of sonic adventure two is because of glitches. There are some glitches with it.
@@robonaught I didn't even consider those DC Egg Carrier garden issues. Wow.
yeah that's cool, now rank the Chronicles Garden 😈
Woah, so Eggman has his own Chao Garden?:o
Neutral garden C tier and hero garden A tier is crazy
SADX neutral garden on D tear uff that hurts in my opinion its THE garden i grew up with this one and i wasnt able to play sa2b til 3 years ago cause my parents allways said they are short and dont even know where to find this old game so seeing the SA2B garden and the physics n everything is so unusual for me that i rather tend to play SADX for the chao garden
What do the emblems do sonic heroes
They unlock the multiplayer modes
Hey choa what do the emblems do in sonic heroes
They unlock the different modes in Multiplayer
20 emblems unlock a multiplayer mode. There are 120 Emblems in total, which unlock the Expert Race. If you A-Rank all 120 of them, you get Super Hard Mode
I noticed your SA2B Hero Garden is modded.
So i am the only one who loves
the Dark Chao Garden in SA2B? 😓😂
I like the Dark Atmosphere. Of course the DC one is far better, but i only had an GC so i was happy with it 😅
Nowadays im only using the Hero Garden because of the Fruits (they give more exp for stamina)
so no mention of the chao VMU game?
That's not a Chao garden so it doesn't count
please do make a ranking of mods or CHAO garden mods.... there's not exactly a lot of content on that
nice video
I used to be scared pf the dark Garden.
I wish Sega Dreamcast withstood the test of time. The mechanics aren't the same on any other system.
Yes, you are correct about the trees and flowers but everything else is exactly the same as sa2b which is why I ranked them together :)
Some might unsub for you yeeting a Chao… not me 😂
My weird ass ranking
13. Gba Chao garden (Sa2)
12. Mystic ruins Garden (Sadx)
11. Mystic ruins Garden (Sa1)
10. Station Square Garden (Sa1)
9. Dark garden (Sa2b)
8. Station Square Garden (Sadx)
7. Dark Garden
6. Regular Garden (Sa2b)
5. Regular Garden (Sa2)
4. Egg Carrier Garden (Sadx)
3. Hero Garden (Sa2b)
2. Egg carrier Garden (Sa1)
1. Hero Garden (Sa2)
Nothing to say other then the dreamcast version is better than the remakes
Also yes you can hara kiri yourself of the cliff in the dreamcast Mystic ruins Garden and also your chao gets sucked back into the garden so you Can't throw them of the cliff
What do you think about the chao garden in Sonic Advance 3 ?
I still have a gamecube and I play on it :)
Chao!
Lol
Add a chao garden in sonic speed sim.
Did u forget the sa2b neutral garden? It must be the exact same for it not to be included
Yes, I ranked the sa2b and sa2 version together
A Sega Chao Garden mobile game is such a good idea, now I want that
Hmmm, ok I wouldn't play a chao game on the cellphone...Unless it's compatible with a game on the switch, kind of like how they did Crystal Chronicles playable with a cellphone for multiplayer
Chao Chao Chao Chao
CHAO CHAO 🎉
I cannot stand the dark garden in SA2. I’m not sure if it’s just my game, but every 5-10 seconds there are wolf howling and witch laughing sound effects. It drives me CRAZY 😖
You're so right about a chao garden mobile game, sadly Nintendo is too busy hurrassing their player base to do anything descent these days..
Nintendo?!
late to the party but do you know what makes the whole chao garden thing worse...them trying to force wisp down your throat for a full decade...id say something about the cocos but they are something different.
Compare also chao adventure
The DS game Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood had one of the worst Chao Gardens I've seen
But chao can fly
The battle content is dlc on modern releases, so i saw a dreamcast dark garden mod when i was kid and thougth was from the dlc.
i know no one cares but there is one in chronicles
HAHA!But there is a mobilegame!
