      One of the few games that made me physically cringe at some of the "hornier" moments, but also kept me oddly interested all the way through with some genuinely great ideas.

      My original thoughts upon release was “Yes, we’re finally returning to the roots of the Taroverse.” Then we are given a game that feels like the majority of it is a comedy special. Maybe that was Taros vision all long, who knows.
      Overall, slightly disappointed, but the better combat, music and additional lore saves it for me.
      Highly recommend reading the Drag-On Dragoon Utahime Five manga along with playing this game. Gives the characters a little more depth not found in the game or DLC.

      The main character comes off as vulgar, violent, mean-spirited, selfish, and just generally unlikeable right off the bat. And I remember many people just bouncing off the game for that reason. When you find out why she's doing what's she doing it's so unbelievably tragic. I've never had such a complete 180 in how I feel about a main protagonist. She's one of my favorites.

    With regards to the final song, if you have a decent sense of rhythm, you should be able to do it with you eyes closed, apart from the final troll note. It's probably easier to do it that way, so the visuals don't act as a distraction (although they are very pretty).
    I've enjoyed this retrospective series, but I'm disappointed you haven't talked about the weapon stories. Not only are they fun, but most of them fit into the general theme of "people that resort to violence come to bad endings" that permeate the series.

    A thing that is worth noting is the differences in the dub of Zero's character as well. In the english, her anger and irritated exterior is is focused in the voice direction. The japanese dub on the other hand has far less energy and emotion. Like someone saying murderous stuff in a smooth and unmoved tone. Based on how you point out that zero basically had her being divided into the five sisters, it makes a lot of sense. Why they did this is hard to say, both versions have merit, but I could imagine the idea was to make her resemble kaine from nier: replicant. I don't know if you know this already or find this worth using for the full series video.

      Crucial yes, but part of the side content rather than in the game proper. I think this video wanted to focus on what we learn from the game and its DLC, not from the audio dramas, novellas, and manga. I hope he touches on these in future content, but for now this is what a typical player would know from playing Drakengard 3.

    Zero wanted to die, but was being kept alive by a flower. That's already a horrible tragedy, being unable to end your miserable existence. Then she gets the burden of responsibility of hunting the intoners and raising a dragon to end her, just to earn that silence. Her happy ending is her blissful death. She actually smiles at Mikhail before transforming, because she's actually proud of him, and because she will finally get peace 😭
    It feels so good to see so many people saying they yave up on the final song and used a guide, because i actually did it without cheating, even though im disabled and it took me 39 hours.

    Ive never played this series but this video, amazingly done, makes me want to. So thank you for that, that's a new like and sub well earned.
    Also as a side note, on the fact that we are conditionned to kill in games : it is funny because it seems to me Taro explored what would become a decade later the core experience of the Last of Us 2.
    They really amped the empathy for enemies you kill up but I find it amazing Taro had already a good idea a decade ago of how to do it given the npcs seem to be speaking lines of dialog about begging for mercy and such. In the Last of Us part 2, they went as far as giving every npcs names they use to call each other when one is missing, and they display every human behavior when threatened to be killed : scared, bargaining, deceiftul (telling you they wish for mercy then hitting you as soon as you start walking away...)
    I love it when creators use others ideas and push the boundaries a bit further.

    It's hard to understate how important the Ending theme songs are for each route, from Drakengard 1 all the way through here in 3. Ending C pulling out Growing Wings/ Exhausted just to hammer home how royally SCREWED the world is after its events hits like a truck, just like it did back in Drakengard 1 Ending B.
    And for how hard the Final Boss rhythm game was to overcome, as many hours as I lost... it was worth it. This Silence Is Mine is powerful, and a reward well, well earned.

Zero is my favourite, and what a coincidence; NieR:Reincarnation has its Gala Event, and with one Mama Medal you can choose your one favourite: and one of these characters is also Zero! So happy to see that Square still cares about her, and hope that we get a remake as well. Although I hope that this time the setting will be more serious in tone, as the original is… sometimes just too 4th wall breaky? And I feel like it doesn’t take itself seriously at times ;u;

    For anyone interested in playing Drakengard 3, he speaks about emulation at the beginning. His frame issues and other visual issues were likely largely caused by shaders compiling (without knowing the specs of his PC). Basically the game has to process what it wants to show you as it's going and there's no way to "share" pre-compiled shaders. Once the bulk of shaders and whatnot are compiled the game will run at 60 frames per second with a patch (or even 120 frames, apparently) given your PC is powerful enough. Note: by powerful I mean a gaming PC with a CPU from the past 6~ years. My CPU is 8 years old and I can easily play the game at a consistent 55-60 frames. This is in contrast to the native PS3 game, where on the console you'll typically see 20 frames at best with the framerate dropping to lows as bad as 13 in intense combat.
    If you're willing to put in a bare minimum amount of work in obtaining and configuring the emulator RPCS3 your experience of the game will massively benefit.

    In case you didn't know, the performance issues can actually be fixed on emulator, if you Google something along the lines of "RPCS3 Drakengard 3 configuration", you'll be told exactly what settings to change to reduce the jank, I did it and had literally Zero (heh) performance issues.

    What a rollercoaster this game is, it does what the second game wanted to do and did it way better. Mikhail is the conscious that Zero has lost thanks to a world that isn't worth saving. I love that each of the girls that were spawned from Zero are the real main characters of this story, as the writing does such a great job into delving into each one, and in doing so we understand who Zero is as well. And we can see that each of the 5 girls are cursed in their own way by the flower.
    The arrangement of the disciples is also interesting, as you wonder if everyone was paired with the wrong girl. Although it seems that 2 and Cents were a strong pairing out of the four, as we could see in the DLC that they were in love with each other.
    The biggest tragedy of the story is that it is a tragedy. The happy ending that we want to see isn't the cannon ending to the prequel, in fact it's the first ending in the game. Which leads to Drakengard 1. Zero's story is one that isn't going to lead to happiness, it was always aiming towards gloom. Is Zero the Villain? Or is she the Hero? Or is she another tragic victim? As a Yoko Taro story she winds up being all of them, and done so in such a way that makes you wonder if the world was better for it, and as we seen in the first game the answer is no. Yoko Taro does a wonderful job saying you did a good job, but then it got worse. Zero's story is a tragedy, as no matter what she does it will not lead to a happy end. A life led by suffering from cruelty that led to a never ending spiral.

    • @Godzilla_Star_Eater
      @Godzilla_Star_Eater День тому

      But that's not true. The end of the Zero DLC shows she actually had a lot of fun with Mikhail. There's a lot of off camera stuff happening in the story, so you can imagine the banter they got up to. Mikhail and Michael were reason enough to make her life worth it, and she did enable the existence of the sentiment machines and androids of the future, as well as the lives of NieR, Kaine, and Emil,which wouldn't exist if the Black Flower destroyed the world. And all the branches are equally real, so branch D ending really did happen in another universe. Yana wrote in her diary that Accord visited her, and Accord has witnessed all branches endings!
      R.I.P. Zero & Mikhail ❤

    The combat is a lot better than you gave credit. The weapon switching mid combo allows for rrally long aerial combos like devil may cry or Bayonetta, and you can do launchers by pressing jump after light hits, and jump cancel out of spears slow attacks

    Well you're probably a fair bit smarter then I am. I relate a lot to being alone and neglected, that was most of my life until I was like 14. I was socially inept, and I was put in a special class in elementary school. Not sure what it was for, and it was only a few times. But yeah, growing up stunk but adulthood isn't much better

    10:00 You HAD to play it on the emulator anyway. The framerate was so bad on the PS3 the game just never ran smoothly. It was really bad, but the Emulator fixed it, so good choise in the end XD

    I will forever be mad that they used Kainé's theme, and not Kuroi Uta, for the final boss in the FFXIV/Nier crossover raids. Thematically, visually, it would've been a perfect fit.

    for the final battle, I basically had to look up a button timing video for this fight on youtube like this (ua-cam.com/video/m9IHeSP71gI/v-deo.html). Then proceed to sync up the video's audio to my television so that I could time my button inputs while strictly watching the youtube video the entire time. I dare say it's the first and last time I'll ever play a video game that makes me have to completely ignore the game itself to focus solely on a separate monitor in order to beat the final battle (or any battle for that matter).

    Drakengard 3 is my fav in the series and I really like it... but I do think dragon combat was a bit disappointing, and the juvenile sex humor was just too much for me throughout a lot of the game. I enjoy a lot of scenes. But there was a lot of eyerolling too. I love the fourth wall breaking though!

      In the lore, basically the city just kinda appeared out of nowhere and with it came the magical elements seen throughout the Drakengard games. There is a massive theory that it is actually a city from the Nier universe somehow brought over to Midgard essentially turning the main timeline into a time loop, how it would get there? We really don't know but it is an interesting idea that kinda fits the existential themes seen in the games plus the idea of each game being a new game to fit in with Yoko Taro's theme of deconstructing gaming with The Draken-Nier series.

    The more we learn about FFR I'm convinced that it should have been named "Final Fantasy 7: Remade" instead of remake.
    Subtle difference I admit, but distinct.
