- One of my favorite old hymns (I know, I know, I say that about all of the hymns I do). It was written by John Dowling, not sure on the specific date it was written but it was during his life from May 12, 1807--July 4, 1878.
@ZacSokolowdoes it better but I borrowed some of his lyrics/delivery/playing style so credit to him.

Thanks for watching,
Tyler
"Few seasons of peace I enjoy, and they are succeeded by pain. If e'er a moment of peace I enjoy, I've hours and days to complain" definitely my favorite lyric from this old hymn and really relatable. It's always stuck in my head. Although I always mess up and say "seceded", like the peace and pain are going to formally secede from each other. 😂
Dang, Bro! That banjo really pops. I love all the cool string bends you’ve got going on!
Thank ya brother!
Amen 🙌🏼
Really good ,love it 👍💪🇺🇸
Thank you!
Awesomeness!👍
Thank you brother 🙏
I like it Tyler I haven’t heard it with this blues sounding scale before 🔥
Thank you brother!
I really liked your previous version on the Neat banjo, and then there's Mr Sokolow's ... now this one. No way am I in the business of choosing between them! Many thanks as per usual.
You have a good memory friend. Thanks for tuning in! Always a pleasure to hear from you.
Nice brother, this one brings me back to the Ridge
Oh yeah I forgot I did this one right by the porta potty
You can make that banjo ring ❤ and your singing is so nice
Thank you!
Great Job dude!
Thank you Richie!
I always liked The Boxcars version of this song. Great picking buddy!
Thank you buddy!
Wonder Tyler! I've been working on trying to get as much of the Stanley tone sound out of my achtop as i can, I'm getting closer, I'm getting ready to try a Presto tailpiece, thanks for the video!
Oh heck yeah! I love the Stanley sound. I could talk chasing it all day. What banjo do you have Danny?
P.S hang tight, when I can get the other half of the Gifford brother in town we are gonna do some big recording days and get some more bluegrass on here with Stanley style pickin'.
Well, right now I have a Goldtone OB 250, I've tightened the head and put a thinner bridge on, it's a stuffy bridge and I use light gauge strings, i Wonder if I went to a smooth top bottom frosted head would it help also, it does still have the top frosted original remo head
@@dannyburke4155 The OB-250 is a great banjo. You can definitely get the sound with it.
I've tried just about every head and bridge combination chasing that sound. Here's what I found in short. If you like early Ralph when he played with Carter as the Stanley Brothers, I'd keep a frosted head on. Either top or bottom. If you like later Ralph when he played on his own, I'd do a smooth head. Either an old five star, or a Remo "cloudy" head. Bridge can vary, but a thin bridge is preferred generally. When you swap the tailpiece I'd crank it down, just where it's slightly off the head/tone ring.
I'll do a video when I do it, but I've been wanting to swap my frosted on the Neat back to a smooth head. You'll be able to compare the sound and see if that's something you'd like to try.
Would I be wrong in assuming that picking extremely close to the bridge has a lot to do with it as well?
You're awesome buddy, thanks for the info, I'm having a terrible time finding those heads, any suggestions?
Probably a pain in the butt, but, the suit esthetic is such a compliment to the great playin! I bet yad get more ALGO action if that was the vibe
You are probably right, I'll test your theory next video. 👀
Is this In standard tuning?
Yes sir, might be a little low but relative standard should get you there.
What's the banjo tuning?
Standard G, gDGBD. Could be a few steps lower.
What is the chord progression for this?
I don't know of a good way to say it without showing it, but something like G>D>G>Bb>G>D.
