That is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.
That was a masterclass of what a great singer/songwriter can do. As lovely as the original is, this is just as good and what a great ode to the wonderful and gifted Ricky Scaggs, one of the greatest tenors in music.
Love this version as well as the original. As my husband likes to say, what was old is new again....
Genius personified.
Tears are in my eyes as I'm listening to this... Some things are forever💝
This is the first time I really heard the lyrics to this song. Hornsby is a master. I loved the original version. I loved this version. I love how he takes the old and makes it new and original.
Dig into his live shows and you'll be amazed at how dynamic he and his band, The Noisemakers, truly are. It's an absolute joy to spend time listening to Bruce :) He's an global musical treasure and one of America's most underrated composer, pianist, and musician.
Chris Vorster very moving, my fav of his
100%
This is actually the original version :-)
And the lyrics were written by Bruce’s brother John…about the breakup between John & and good friend of mine. A looong time ago.
I cannot stop smiling and crying in the same moment. What a song. Wow
I feel exactly the same. His voice, the piano, the Mandolin and strings... The strings slay me every time. I can't stop listening.
K Price stunning isn’t it
Oh my.... tears from the first moment on. Wow, just wow. One of my childhood favorites, I thought couldn't get any better. What a delicate, beautiful version of this song.
Wasn’t sure I would like a different version but how lovely! Chris Thile on mandolin, oh my. Simply beautiful!
I love the arrangement.. Love the original.. Beuce never disappoints
Those strings! This version is absolutely sublime. Just beautiful!
Version incroyable. Quelle joie! Merci d'avoir téléchargé ceci.
I adore Bruce and this arrangement is just sublime. I do like the OTHER original version of the song though.
what a performance omg 😱🔥🎶
Some minor shadings in this arrangement make it even more evocative than the original recorded version. Lovely.
Amazing version of this timeless song and a most amazing performance!
Kudos to the audio engineers! Great mix!
I think all of us who know both artists hoped and prayed that they would be together on stage one day and perform this song. And indeed, oh lord those strings. Was that Rob Moose as concertmaster?
Absolutey exquisite in every respect.
Yep, that is Rob!
Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
Absolutely wonderful you've put out another album, Bruce. Something I just don't understand, looking at your 2020 tour dates... nothing in Virginia... really? That's where it all began. So unfortunate... still and will always continue to love your music. From one Virginian to another... please come home sometimes. You still have a fanbase here. Keep up the great work Bruce. Thanks to your music, the miles for this OTR truck driver never seem as endless as they are.
He added a Virginia date for October
@@annamariepowell9162 Of course... and I don't go back home until Christmas time. Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
I come back to this song frequently because it is just so beautiful. But I also come back to try to fill that void that having no more Live From Here has left. Maybe someday...
i hope this gets released on a future live album of his. wonderful
Beautiful
Outstanding artist beautiful instruments...I prefer his original version more because I just love the sway factor it gives me. ❤
Fantastic. Great song. Great re-work. Excellent video and audio capture. Thanks, LFH! Ramcey in Nashville
Incredible!!!
Goose bumps!
Gorgeously sad.
Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed., what a moment and it was recorded!!
Holy effing phuck. That managed to put the Hornsby/Skaggs version to shame. The strings. My God.
This is so good Chris just stopped playing and listened the last minute or so. Nough said.
I wish I could convince more players that rests are music, too.
@@tomforsythe7024 Absolutely, Tom.
perfecto !
Jude Law is pretty good on the mando!
Chris Thile is awesome!
LOL! It's Chris Thile playing mandolin, but I'm sure you knew that!
Just the right amount of illusion.
♥️🎻📸🎻♥️🙏
Love Bruce doing anything- this is wonderful as is the arrangement. Do love the other version of the song better- sad that you dont hear him do this anymore. Would have been a real intellectual exercise a different song based on the same words!
That was a studio sound on the original. Also, his voice has changed a lot as he changed it & he's "in the shrinking years" so the mellower key maybe suits the vocal range he can achieve a lot better.
2:21 so inlove with chris thile.
Who arranged the strings? Haunting.
Had to have been Chris Thile. He has a real gift!
@@dalegribble6813 Actually, more likely Rob Moose. He's a wicked arranger - he did the arrangement of the Bach Brandenburg concerto that you hear Punch do sometimes.
Anyone know who wrote the string parts?
I didn't know Christopher Walken was such a good musician.
What is a Kentucky Pro-vi-nod?
He was saying "provenance" but made it extra French sounding.
@@stephenbenzel2717 Merci!

Very different version. Still prefer original version, but this has its points too...
I'm so used to listening to the original one which was just a very powerful song to me and also beautiful and now it's like it looks like it's just been broken apart and put back together again it's such a different way that I I just don't like it thanks
I actually think the wistful, sad lyrics were matched even better by this music.
Thought the popular version was great to begin with, too
I can appreciate the artistry, but I prefer the original melody.
Great remake but doesn't reach the heights of the original... my own opinion... 😉
I have to say I agree. I like the vocalization better in the first, suits him better, but I do think this version has more feeling when I get past that thought.
The original was Great !
The original had a huge effect on me. This does not
Congrats that makes zero sense
Dale Gribble I simply like the original better. The fact that you had to publicly insult me for this reason provided your a pathetic little bitch with something to prove . A sorry troll you are I feel sorry for you!
@Matthew Hoopes Thanks Matt! Appreciate it! Cheers
I agree
@Matthew Hoopes The versions put me in different moods. I LOVE both versions, but for very different reasons. This version personifies a relationship I had my senior year of high school. However, the original version doesn't have the same affect on my recollections and the memories of a love lost.
Nope
For me, this is the ruination of a great song. The rhythm of the original is gone. The haunting quality of the original is gone. This is a “punctuated” over orchestrated monstrosity that destroyed my love for the original.
Beautiful
