  • Another fantastic day on PEI! Today, we covered 15 km from North Rustico to Oyster Bed Bridge, trundling along quiet country roads and venturing around a tiny peninsula to take in the breathtaking views of Rustico Cove. The North Coast continues to exceed every expectation - endless dreamy views, perfect weather, flocks of wildfowl, delicious food, and the friendliest people you could meet. Days like these make this journey unforgettable. Join us for another trundle as we explore this little gem of PEI’s northern shore. #theislandwalk #hiking #chonkytrundlers #pei #princeedwardisland #getoutside #travel #coupleswhohike #canadianadventures #islandwalk

There are several benches placed on this section now - one at the Rustico Farmers Bank just before Grand Pere Point Road and one on the road at the Rustico Resort. Maricar and David - lovely folks!

Yard lighthouses may not be a bad idea. You never know where a boat hauler may plunk down a boat if conditions are foggy and rainy enough. Puddles can get fairly large... 😂

Exactly! 😂 You can never be too careful 😂😂

I'm so glad you had such a perfect day for this section! It is really exceptional, and Hedwig really shows it off. It's also the busiest road section but your video puts it in context - wide, paved shoulders and very light traffic. Wonderful!

It was a brilliant day Bryson, and one of our favourites overall. Yeah, most of the roads were very good. Route 6 is a bit of a beast and we weren’t very keen on that. It was ok on the day we had, but walking it on a rainy day would be a different thing. We think it’s one of the roads in particular that George Larter is campaigning for improvements on. Hope that pays off as it will be a big asset for the Island Walk and PEI if there’s a cycle/walking lane added there 🤞🏼😬

Top day! Great capture of the Bald Eagle. The Merlin app is fab. Use it to identify migratory birds in the Spring and Autumn.

That particular eagle was pretty determined to be filmed 😂 He was super focused on the waterway full of wildfowl. The geese and the seagulls weren’t taking any chances. They were off after one or two passes. Only the ducks were brave, or stupid, enough to hang around 😬😂

I am with you...would not like walking along a busy road...your detour looked much nicer. Maybe that would be a good change tot eh route. Must have been great having a day, and using the BBQ for home cooked food. Amazing how nice the people of PEI are!

The kindness of people was without doubt one of the biggest and most important underlying events of the entire walk Matilda. By and large, most road walks were ok. I can’t say we enjoyed them all, but we didn’t feel unsafe for 99% of the time. And on the very few exceptions, there was always an alternative. Our advice for anyone would be to take responsibility for your own safety, and if something doesn’t feel good, do something different. There are efforts already underway to improve some of the more tricky road sections, I really hope they come through 🤞🏼 Lol yes! The BBQ was a great addition to our repertoire 😂

@@ChonkyTrundlers When we stayed in Darnley, every time I walked the roads, people always pulled over, and waved. Even in the stores/restaurants the people were friendly...a real nice change.

Absolutely. Waving, honking (in the good way), moving way over to the other carriageway to avoid us whenever possible. We doff our Tilley hats to the wonderfully courteous drivers of PEI ❤️
