Day 47: The Final Footsteps of our epic Island Walk are over! One last 12 km trundle from Hazelbrook to Charlottetown today, and our 707 km loop is officially closed! It’s incredible to think that just 47 days ago we set off on this journey, and here we are, with very tired legs, but big smiles. It feels like we’ve been here forever, but in the good way 😂❤️. The only thing more wonderful than t...

The Island Walk - Day 46: Iona to Hazelbrook - 31km of magic on the Confederation Trail Hey Everyone! Welcome to Day 46 of The Island Walk! Today we covered 31 km from Iona to Hazelbrook, and somehow, the Confederation Trail was even more dazzling than yesterday. The foliage was on fire, the weather was perfection, and the whole day was just pure unfiltered magic. We also said farewell to our b...

Today was absolute perfection in every sense. Our wonderful rented e-bikes carried us 30 km down the fabulous Confederation Trail from Murray River to Iona. It was like we were flying down a jeweled corridor with nature’s arching cathedral roof of bronze and gold overhead. It was perhaps our most magical day. Everything came together, and even the weather had given in and joined in the celebrat...
Prince Edward Island - The Island Walk - Day 44

Today marked a bittersweet milestone as it was our last full day of walking on The Island Walk. With only two cycling days ahead of us and then a final 12 kilometers to stroll into Charlottetown, this felt like the true end of the walking part of our adventure. And what a memorable day it was, a total contrast to the challenges of Day 43. The brilliant sunshine lifted our spirits, but the super...

Did you stay at the monestery?
If you don't mind sharing, how much did it cost in $CAN on average for daily accommodation and transportation? I loved all your informative Island Walk videos! Well done. Thank you!
Following you has been so much fun. I've added PEI to my list.
Definitely worth the effort Paula! We’re so happy to have you with us 😀❤️
Great questions and answers. I am sure it will help many. I am so pleased that you noticed that even on such a small Island, there is variety to the views and landscape. Looking forward to part 2.
Walking is a magical thing OLG. The micro pace means you see and experience sooooo much more. Way more even than cycling. And to experience PEI in Fall, wow!
You two did such a great job!! Plugging along in all weather, I looked forward to each day's journey. Thanks, again. Good luck, on your future journeys!!
You were such a great encouragement, and we appreciated every word ❤️ We’re very lucky to have you with us
@@ChonkyTrundlers well I appreciate you efforts, and you were like regular people...not some super fit young person...PEI is such a great place, and we will return, with recent events regarding America, we will not be returning to America, sadly.
Can't wait to follow your adventures this year, culminating in your return to PEI in November!
The Island Walk put a big PEI shaped stamp on our hearts Bryson. You’ve made a tough act to follow when we start working our way into the rest of Canada, and we can’t wait to be back in Winter. Hopefully we’ll get to have a coffee and listen to some of your music too!
I love the bloopers, and I'm ok with being compared to Bill Bryson!
LOL you have no idea how many times we said that Bryson. Because we were working with Bill, and of course all of our dealings with you, AND the added complication of listening to a Bill Bryson ebook, it was always going to happen 😂
I love Bill Bryson's books - especially the ones about his walkabouts in the UK!
Really enjoyed your journey, and all of your suggestions!! Totally agree, the Boardwalk , and North Cape were fantastic..loved going there. Agree those sections are too long for many people..maybe one day's journey, but not back to back!!
So glad you liked it ❤️ e-Bikes! That’s the answer John 😉😂. Seriously though, although the bikes were a reluctant backup plan, they ended up adding a whole extra dimension. We absolutely loved them. Maybe some Chonky Zoomer adventures in our future 🤔
@@ChonkyTrundlers for years we were regular cyclists...now I might look into e bikes...little pricey, though!!! See if you can fit Naigara Falls into your travels...stunning , all year round
Exceptional, very well done trundlers, you are so inspirational x
Thank you so much Deborah 🙏🏼❤️. What an adventure that was ❤️🇨🇦❤️
Skor bars and poutine! That made me laugh. Great job with the Q&A.
We never said we were sophisticated Lyne 😉😂❤️
I think you accomplished so much - the three that continue amaze me are the Camino Portuguese, Achill Island camping and hiking, and the PEI Camino. Goodness that's a lot! Truly amazing. OK, so maybe we'll be able to connect when you are touring in the USA. Happy February 😊😊😊
LOL it surprises us too now when we look back on it. A thousand trail miles 😅 With our chubby legs 😂😂. We keep forgetting Achill because it was a “practice” but it was more miles than the Camino 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♀️ Absolutely! The US Road Trip is slowly taking shape and we will keep you posted 👍🏼❤️
@ yes keep me posted and believe I think I would have called it quits on Achilles more than once - the rain, the wind etc. good on you guys ☺️
So thrilled to watch this wrap up. What a trip! Thank you for your tips and thank you for introducing me to PEI. I've added it to my wish list.
Thank you Paula 🙏🏼❤️ It’s most definitely worth the trip 🐌🇨🇦
HURRAY!!! Cheers to your completion of the PEI!!
Thank you Christine! What an incredible experience it was 🇨🇦❤️
You did it 💪 Congratulations 👏👏👏👏👏🎉
Thank you Jutta 🙏🏼❤️. We think the videos took way longer than the walk 😂😅❤️
@ChonkyTrundlers iam in awe of all you UA-camrs, editing & posting your content consistently & with such high quality 👏👏👏I couldn't do it!!! I haven't even finished organizing my photos from my 14 days in Portugal yet 🙈 🤣 I finally sorted my 2 weeks worth of photos from Italy 2023 3 months ago... Procrastination is my middle name 😂
Congratulations!
Thank you! ❤️
Great video and happy that you completed your walk and PEI time with glorious sunny weather!
Thank you Joanne 🙏🏼❤️. Yeah, we were gifted the most amazing last few days at the end. But to be honest we are usually very lucky with weather, or we think anyway. Yes, we occasionally have some very wet days, but some of those days have been our best ones. As a minimum, Type Two fun 😉😂
Of course, the Anne's!
Love the farewell bubbles!
The Anne’s are legends ❤️ Wish we’d gotten a chance to meet them
Congratulations! Such an amazing adventure for you two, and for us too!
We’ve made so many friends on PEI Bryson. You were 100% correct. It is a totally unique trail ❤️
Well, you'll just have to do the last leg the next time. It's all signed now, and it's all Active Transportation route (trail and sidewalk). Plus there are official benches!
Actually we were saying the exact same thing Bryson. Tina was saying we will do the last section again 😂
Well, you'll just have to do the last leg the next time. It's all signed now, and it's all Active Transportation route (trail and sidewalk). Plus there are official benches!
Aw! You went on the highway! The new route is much nicer, and you're on a trail not the highway!
LOL what can I say Bryson 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♀️. Yeah, we goofed big time. However, we did at least create a great video of why not to do the old trail 😉😂
Congratulations Tina and Keith! 🎉🎉 I always loved hearing about all the acts of kindness. That was amazing!
There were so many fabulous encounters on the walk Lyne. The difference they make is out of this world. If anyone is ever wondering whether it’s worth it to be a trail angel, the answer is a great big whopping YES! You will quite literally make someone’s entire day ❤️
Wow, what an adventure you two had. I looked forward to your posts, and your joy, each and every day, even in the pouring rain!! Well you come back to Canada, one day. Looking forward to your wrap up, all the good points, and some suggestions, to make the walk better. Hard slug, and few have completed the whole walk, I can see why!
Thank you ❤️🙏🏼❤️. We’re working on the wrap up as we speak and will hopefully have that up by Tuesday at the latest 🤞🏼. It needs a lot of thought. You have been a truly wonderful supporter and we hope this won’t be the end. We also want to see your own adventures when you don your helmets and cycle the CT 😂❤️
Congratulations once again Chunky Trundlers! Love the celebratory bubbles and the view from the Hillsborough bridge.
Thank you OLG! 🙏🏼❤️ The bubbles and treats were quite literally an unbelievable surprise. We couldn’t believe our eyes 😂
Can't believe there's only one more video to come! It's been magnificent!!! Lovely seeing you zoom along today & that little surprise gift was just adorable 😍🫧🫧🫧🫧🫧
The bubbles and treat too a perfect day to the upper limits of excitement and happiness Jutta 😂. We were just so so surprised and delighted ❤️❤️❤️.
What a great journey you have shared with us!! I know I will never do the island walk, but could handle cycling the Confederation trail, especially with e bikes. The last few days must have been emotional for you, pride for doing I, a sadness as you near the end. PEI is a special place...every one has their place to love, PEI is mine. The people have been amazing!!
Breton told us before we started that the Island Walk was a unique trail, and it absolutely is, in so many ways. But perhaps the most wonderful thing it has is the people you meet along the way. We’ve made not just acquaintances whilst doing the walk, but real friends. 100% we were very sad to be so near the end and one of the things we like to hear about, it’s people’s feelings when they reach the end of a thru-hike. Trail Blues is very much a real thing. It’s like reaching the end of a really great book. Cycling the CT or even the whole Island Walk would be definitely doable, and especially so with the e-bikes. That was our first chance to try them on PEI but they’re an idea we will keep in our back pocket going forward. Who knows, maybe one day we will do an entire biking adventure. If you want to see a Vlog of the CT have a look for the Wander Women. They are heroes of ours ❤️❤️❤️
@@ChonkyTrundlers Funny I did follow them, laughed at their big hats! But enjoyed their adventure...we have a really nice trail, that goes through the Niagara Falls region in Ontario...all paved, and all off road...ua-cam.com/video/7K0ltVV-uFs/v-deo.htmlsi=UeaSYsTb9rRYsx1J
We’ll have to have a proper look at that! 👍🏼🙏🏼
And the bench that Tom and I placed on the Walk at 7:30, just past Lake Verde (WP 31)!
The benches are awesome Bryson. Such a great addition. Hoping we get to meet Betty the Bench Queen one day ❤️
Aw! I love that someone left you bubbles and treats - at minute 4:00 on your You Tube. :-)
The wonderful one and only Annes ❤️
Such a perfect day 😊 And those blueberry fields are incredible, never seen those before
They were a first for us too Jutta. Absolutely fabulous to see 🤩❤️
I really like these sections of trail that are less gravely. Like nature is trying to reclaim them. Wonderful footage of scenery.
Thanks OLG 🙏🏼❤️ It was so lovely, made it seem a little more “wild”, but the carpet of leaves kinda stole the show a bit 😂 It was a fabulous day
That place with the red roof (9:00) is for sale. Perfect location for a B&B? :-)
100% Bryson. Wish it was us doing it
Hedwig's shots of those red blueberry fields are great!
It had such a great last few days Bryson 🤩
Great to have a mini tour of these lovely composting toilets! They're getting even more of them on the trail next year. :-)
Those little toilets are fabulous! And so incredibly clean!!
I love your choice of music today. It made me want to take out my bicycle. Beautiful scenery…wow! The last blooper was quite funny! Can’t wait to accompany you to the finish line. 🎉🎉
Thanks Lyne ❤️🙏🏼 100% make the most of any and every day! It even made us wish we had bikes on a more regular basis 😂❤️
What a fantastic day, you had!! No heat, no rain, nice scenery, quiet road, nice people and friendly dogs!! Really how could it be any better? Sadly, soon coming to an end, but I haves enjoyed your posts, as I am sure many have. Cheers!!😀
It was an absolutely perfect, perfect, day. Even more amazing was that we had another one the day after!! We think the Island was making up for some of the other days 😉😂 The good thing is it doesn’t end and we are sure we’ll be keeping in touch ❤️
I'm leading a week of Island Walk hikes next September for Deluxe Tours. The best of the Island Walk. It would be great to have you back again.
Oh how v v cool! Sadly we won’t be there until Nov, and that’s assuming everything goes to plan. I think we managed about a 50% success rate of plan vs reality last year, so we are hoping to improve on that this year.
Check your email - I sent you a message about a video that you need to make. :-)
Got it Bryson 👍🏼 Yeah it’s one we’d actually been mulling over. It’s on the list 👍🏼
I love how you conjured up a cuppa. Canadians, eh?
LOL it was amazing Mar 😂 Had we known that was possible there would have been so many more instances of that. But honestly, we were literally just saying at that point how wonderful it would be if someone just drove up with coffee. And then the phone dinged with a message… 😂
Thank you for the great video of Graham’s Pond and Graham’s Crick, I really enjoyed our chat that day!
It was lovely to meet you Barry ❤️ That whole day was fabulous, but made even more so by the wonderful and interesting people we met. One of our best days.
I love this! This aerial view of North Lake shows the secret alternate route along the Northside beach - 8 km to East Point and avoid the road walking!
I think of walking out to East Point, a beach walk would be very welcome indeed. On the e-bikes they were v easy. It was another brilliant day was East Point, and we came away with a good half a dozen additional Christmas tree ornaments 😂
In case I didn't mention it, Hedwig got the best footage of our alternate beach walk here. I especially like the coverage of the stream that empties East Lake to the ocean. You can jump across this stream where it comes out onto the beach, or take your socks off and get your feet wet. :-)
It would be kind of cool to fly him along the entire route and then speed it up into a few minutes. There’s great line of site there. However, the wind was pretty fierce. He wasn’t happy flying that day but he’s a bit of a troops 😉😂
You sure had your share of rain these past few days!
We did get a few douchings Bryson. However, by and large we’re usually pretty lucky 😅
It's a road walk to Sturgeon, but the road is a quiet one!
The road wasn’t too bad Bryson. There’s decent hard shoulders to walk on for the vast majority of the way 👍🏼
They sure do! :-)
Tom has finished your bench, but we haven't placed it yet. We have a LOT of snow here!
That’s awesome news Bryson! It’s worth the wait. Let us know where it goes and we’ll go and find it next time 👍🏼
Ah, the beautiful red dirt roads made famous by Anne of Green Gables!
It was one of the (many) things we were so looking forward to seeing ❤️. Mind you, they take on a different personality after a few heavy downpours 😉😂
People are concerned about road walking, but your video shows walking out of Charlottetown on the paved Active Transportation route is safe and easy!
It was a very easy day Bryson. No problems at all that we can remember.
4 months ago! Has it been that long?
LOL isn’t that crazy Bryson 😂 We can’t believe it either 😳
