      I usually try not to watch any se_ selling channels. Already too many of those existing. I came here for the fishing content "butt" got distracted a lot. I say if a channel has good enough content, it's not necessary that they show so much skin. Like here, it's usually the females. The male even wears a t-shirt. Skin getting much sun all the time will look old, like parchment, way faster.
      Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love to see beautiful women, especially with beautiful butts. But that's not what I want to see on a sailing or sawmilling channel.

    Short striking the lures.Let them take it longer on light drag,then slowly increase and when you feel good tension,set the hook.Sometimes that works.

    On catching fish under sail or for any other method of fishing , Always check the hooks for sharpness and make sure the hooks still have the "J" curve to the hook. If you hang into something big and it straightens the hook, every fish after that will get off unless you bend it back in place. The hook won't literally be straightened, but the "J" shape will be pulled out at an angle that will make it very easy for a fish to get off.

    Just a few fishing tips. Make sure that the hooks are sharp. Keep at all times the rod tip upright. Never bring the rod dawn facing the fish. If the fish turn arround it can break the line. Keep on fishing

      I second the make sure your hooks are sharp! Never assume that new hooks are sharp. Take them somewhere off the boat (so you don’t get little rust spots all over your boat) and sharpen them with a file or some other means.

    Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this. When doing the roll, the seaweed sheet is on the outside. This stops the rice from sticking to the bamboo and contains it whilst eating. Good first effort. Cheers

    looks like what you need to better set your hooks is a tag line….if you aren’t aware of these , the way they work is that you can use a clip or rubber band to take up slack in the line , so when the fish strikes, the clip let’s the slack loose …this allows the bait to stop, and allows fish to get better bite on it…when the line tightens it jerks the bait and sets the hook …you’ll land more fish this way…i’ve been sailing a friends seawind 1000 xl and i’m very impressed with the design, quality, and prrformance…it’s a lot more capable offshore than i had imagined for such a light weight yacht…cheers to you guys for pulling off getting your new boat!

    • @ashley-tm1uk
      @ashley-tm1uk 6 місяців тому +1

      that’s the ticket!…sounds like you have it covered…but ,you might want to just get some clips instead of using rubber bands…sometimes hard to get the right size rubber band that will break correctly when the fish strikes ….the clips are used on outriggers for fishing boats…make sure your leader lines are proper size…i use metal with at least 500lb test…about 4 to 5 ft or longer leader line…right size swivels , and crimps important too…for hand line , no less than 300 lb mono fishing line…you should be able to land at least 100 lb fish with this…don’t forget the gloves…that mono line will cut to the bone…first hand advice on this one…
      hope you have great success!!

    There is a technique with Maui that might help you keep the freezer full. Take those skipjack tuna and cut them into bait sized chunks. When you come across anything floating in blue water conditions stop and drop a baited line into the water near by. Dorado tend to collect under anything that floats. We have encountered them under logs, the top of a basket, and weed lines. Once you have a strike, leave the hooked fish in the water and drop another baited line in. Bring these fish in one at a time but always leave one hooked fish to attract the others below. You likely only need a few to fill the cooler. These tend to be smaller than what you encounter trolling.

    Here's a crazy adventure idea. Go see the Eclipse on your sailboat. You have two choices, way up north by Prince Edward Island, or south off the west coast of Mexico, near Mazatlan. That would be a Panama transit which would be cool or scary. You got about 40 days to get there.

    I empathize with your frustration with out islands Bahamas line fishing - we sail there as well, and it's an unexpected treat on the rare occasions we succeed - but we all persist!; I share your joy when it works out. Would like an expert freediving/spearing lobster hunting and conch cleaning lesson from an old hand, though. P.S. we use the bagel seasoning and furikake at home on sushi rolls too. Try adding wasabi to the sriracha mayo for an extra, different kick. Two thumbs (on the video) up!
    We got good at trading barracuda for lobster. Having experienced the ciggy once (and over again), our larger reef fish appetite has diminished. But my wife has stopped diving while wearing lures, so that's helping.
    Maybe next trip we being no perishables, and rely on our wits. A sure recipe for starvation. ;-)

    I think you just hooked some seaweed. Invest in some sort of downrigger setup so you can cover more of the water column. You have to put the lure in front of the fish and that means putting the lure where the fish are in the water column.

    first on has to set the hook with a sharp pulling motion up and back on the rod. As for the drag speed, line strength plays a role in how much is enough drag. larger line more drag.

    I think maybe you guys need to sharpen your hooks and then set them really, really hard when you have a fish on. I imagine you're using 50 lb+ test line so you won't break it by setting the hook hard. The tuna looked good. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

    One of the best parts of my week is when you guys post a video. As far as fish on fish off as in wax on wax off Danielson, you might have to almost reduce speed or drop sale or change your tack to take the strain off your catch to get them in the boat. Try a release clip off a cleat or something on your stern. Might improve your hookup ratio to the strikes you're getting. The "drop back" from the release clip can let that hook find the corner of their mouths a little better. Even a rubber band can work if you don't have clips. Good luck

    The Luer you showed in the trials and tribulations of catching a fish from a catamaran is a good Luer and I found after being a first mate in Destin Florida for over 15 years you’re darker colors like purple is really good black also work really well also a little bigger Luehr than the one you have Works really well in between 6 to 8 kn. You really do have a good speed . Also if you are fishing with your engines on sometimes that could help because some engines actually will help attract fish. don’t ask me why or why the darker colors work you wouldn’t think so, but all I could say is the proof is in all the fish I’ve caught wahoo, king, mackerel, Dorado, your baby chicken, dolphins mahi-mahi good luck

  • @johnabriggs6044
    @johnabriggs6044 6 місяців тому

    one of the ways of Saltwater fishing when trolling is to add a teaser on a hand line to run in front of your fishing lure as something to attract the fish to hit the line on the rod. what I used for years was a larger teaser than the lure. even some squid groups or birds that disturb the water help to attract the Wahoo and Mahi Mahi larger lures need larger poles and reels to land a larger fish with a gaff with a long or extending handle with a mouth of 3 to 4 inches.

    Trolling with rods while sailing can turn into pure Kasos when you get a big fish on, dropping sail to reduce speed before you get spoiled. We’ve had some halarious moments and usually lost the fish in the end. Our answer was had lines only when sailing. Much easier although not near as entertaining

    An explanation with visual aids of how you sail off anchor would be appreciated.

    Nice video - thanks!! At 10:50 I see a lot of smoke or steam. If on startup and goes away usually benign. Might be nothing since sometimes you see it based on water/air temperature but it might also be steam (so insufficient cooling water injected into exhaust elbow) or less commonly more serious issues I doubt you have. Do you know what is causing it?

    Have you considered heaving too a bit to drop the speed when a fish is on the line?
