In this video Nick is demonstrating the Tama Superstar Classic 7- piece drum kit. This is a super fun kit to sit behind and play on. The eight inch rack tom and the 16" floor tom add some real nice color to the sound of the kit. There is just something special about being able to go from high to low on great sounding toms. These drums are full and powerful which make them good for just about any musical situation.
This 100% maple drum kit comes with 7" x 8", 8" x 10", and 9" x 12" rack toms. The floor toms are "FAST" sized and you get 12" x 14" and 14" x 16" sizes. The kick drum is a big and powerful 18" x 22" and the snare drum comes in at 6.5" x 14". The toms have great definition in tone between each drum which made them very musical. The kick drum has a nice beefy attack to it that coupled well with the tone of the toms. Rounding out the whole package is the snare drum which was nice and sensitive in the hands, and had a loud crack to it when I went for rim shots. Put it all together and these TAMA Superstar drums really sound good all together.
The hardware that comes with the kits is sturdy and well made and adds to the resonance of the drums. The Starmount tom suspension system is easy to use, let's the drums hang freely, and I was able to comfortably get the toms close together. You also get the Star-Mount System double-tom holder that attaches to the kick drum and the MC69 clamp mount that you can attach to a cymbal stand for the 8" tom.
The finishing touch to this very nice kit is the color. The Indigo Sparkle wrap is a deep, lush blue color that looks fantastic under lights. This kit will stand out very nicely on any stage.
If you are looking for a very musical drum kit that looks and sounds great then take a look at this Tama Superstar Classic 7-piece drum kit. It is an awful lot of fun to play on!

Hope you guys at Sweetwater realize how lucky you are to have Mr. Nick D’Virgilio in your ranks! Love these vids.
This is actually one of the best sounding of the Sweetwater drum videos. Tama drums just effortlessly sound great.
Agreed on all accounts
"When you buzz the buzz buzzes." - Nick Bee Virgilio
I'm guessing he likes jazz.
Wojtyła he’s a Prog drummer

buzz lightyear!
This kit is beautiful! Had me at "Indigo sparkle".. Indigo was our daughter's name
"When you buzz, the buzz... buzzes."
Quote of the century.
U like jazz?
These are my drums. 🥰🥰🥰. I just got done playing them and they always blow me away. Tone O Licious. The punch of the bass drum will gut you like a Whitetail on on Nugent’s back forty.
I love the tone of the 8" tom
A 90's version of this kit was my first and only kit as a kid
SweetwaterSound This is a very good quality drum kit my favorite drums are tama and I have to say this is one of the best drum kits I've heard can't wait to get my hands on it.
You are the go to guy for drum demos. well produced, nice clean audio & great playing. thank you
Great video!! Awesome kit! Congrats!
I would definitely consider into getting some of these if I were to be in the market for a new set up. I'm really digging those old school badges
I traded in my Tama Imperialstar shell pack and bought the Super Star Classic in Indigo Blue. I to had a blue sparkle when I had my first drum kit. My very first drum was a 1964 Slingerland Blue Sparkle. Which is still have and it matches this set. You are right about the tone of the toms and snare. Although mine don't sound like yours. Need to re-tune them. I LOVE the snare. I have the head tighter for more of a crack. Wanting to start or join a band and this will look great on stage.
Nick is an awesome drummer
Looks beautiful. Sounds nice.
Thats a Beautiful drum kit !!! Sounds great too 👍👍
Thank you, this video inspires me so much.
Tama is doing it proper. This is how you do a review. Thanks.
Great Playing!! Drums look and sound killer
Just got this exact kit and it sounds amazing! I’ve tried other brands and don’t have the sound I’m looking for as I do in Tama
Love these!
Beautiful kit on blue sparkle 🥁🥁🔔🔔👍🙌
Damn this guy is such a cool drummer. His rolls are so fast
Man, those sound killer for entry level and as he says, the pop and tonal separation for each tom is simply amazing...may have to sell my Export ELX's and get one of these in fusion sizes!
These aren’t entry level . They don’t make entry level drums anymore . You want to know the brands that are entry level ? Percussion plus , GP drums these are so much better then those brands .there are no entry level drums that have 7 pieces these are for advancing drummers and pro drummers you don’t know what your talking about . All because they are “at a price “ doesn’t make them “entry level “
My very first drum kit was blue sparkle too :) I feel ya
This guy rocks on the drums
I'm digging those new vintage Superstar style lugs, only they made it smaller and sleeker, and the vintage badge T badge is a nice touch..
Sounds Great
Hey Nick! I need to see a test and review (a well done review obviously) of the superstar hyperdrive maple tama kit please, can you make that?. Besides that, is very pleasuring see you playing any drum kit man, amazing sound. Congrats from Argentina!
this drum kit is AMAZING. I played on it at guitar center and it sounds great. the pearl decade maple recently came out and it has the same shell construction and price point.can you please review it so I can hear how it sounds.
Have to say, the guy doing this demo is a heck of a good drummer.
I think he was famous back in the old days making solos and whatnot. Search up Nick Vergilio solos or something like that.
@@patrickecraela8781
yep he used to play for neil diamond, meatloaf and gwar back in the day
Do some research famous back in the day he was famous then and he’s still famous. Now Nick di Virgilio is a beast.
Awesome!
Wow very nice drums, and very good playing to go with it....GREAT review! i own this exact kit, and am having trouble getting good tone out of the toms, any insight on what the tuning settings were for this kit??
I see they ALSO changed the drum heads instead of using the Tama heads sent with the kit. I wanted more bottom and used Aquarian Force Ten coated on tom batters and Triple Threat Coated on snare batter. Put a Super Kick Ten on bass. Several sound engineers were blown away by the warmth and attack these heads produce.
I know it’s not a high end kit, but man it sounds good. Maybe it’s just Nick.
These are high end .they sound good because they are a damn good set . Why does a drumset have to be “high end “ to sound good ? These sound just like the “ high end “ drums our just paying less but your getting way more for your money most “high end “ don’t have 7 pieces these drums are awsome !!! I own these and love them
very pro sounding drum kit love the blue sparkle ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
That’s because they are a pro drumset
I just bought this drumset in dark red sparkle. Can’t wait to get it .
You will be very happy with it. I just got mine last year came in two boxes not very big but its all in there! Best sounding drums I have played ever! Enjoy your new kit Tama makes Amazing drums!
@@W4RD1N8ER yes they do I can’t wait to hear them !!!
@@W4RD1N8ER so I just got my set these are real good drums they sound so good I’ll never play anything else .
Nice drum! i like this sound
Thanks for watching, Wamz Haskara!
Dave White bitch they made another video with the stock heads and it's sounds just as good
3:23 WOW!
Tama will always be the only choice
True
Nice. Very nice
How do you get that bass drum tone? I love it.
Remo powerstroke 4 batter head. Bam
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so happy I ordered this kit in a 5 piece...I got the satin pearl one and can't wait to get it shipped to my house...I'm kind of a beginner with a little experience playing certain things...I wanted my first drum set to be not too expensive but really nice and this Tama star classic is it
0:15 was so cool!
Pair that thing with a shallow brass snare drum, and I bet this would be a great Stewart Copeland/Police sounding kit! I'm kinda surprised how good it sounds.
It’s because these are professional drums cheaper then most high end drums there all made exactly the same but they want you to spend your life’s savings on most of those when you get the exact same thing the only real difference is cheap cymbal stands that you get on so called “cheaper “ drums and high hat stands once you upgrade to those you got a high end set that you payed way less for but the major companies don’t want you to know that because there in the market to make money .
if I didn't live in an apartment I swear I'd buy these right now. either the tobacco burst or blue lacquer. doesn't matter they're not top of the line, these just call out to me. in person they look stunning!
nycjin816 buy an electronic kit
have one and i'm not complaining but there is no substitute for playing a 'real' acoustic kit
been 3 years but I bought it! long ass details in the newer superstar classic review
I live in a apartment and I bought them going to find a place to play them at though .
I got them last year..only problem is they're in Florida so I get to play them 2,maybe 3x a year. But it's worth it. I also got an A custom set, hardware kit, speed cobra double and a piece or crap pdp boom cymbal stand with no boom arm. I wish I could play It here but no loud noise. I wish I got the blue sunburst but got the tobacco burst instead, looks just as good 👍
“Let’s get to those sizes right now”!!!
Hi! I'm from Spain and I want to buy this kit. Is it aviable for international shipping?
bought the 5 piece with the midnight gold sparkle wrap and it's so awesome. I get so many complements on the kit! for the money it's one of the best kits I've ever heard or played on. I decided to pick up the drums again as soon as I got out of the hospital from open heart surgery and it's been the best physical therapy ever and I couldn't have picked a better set. put Aquarian performance 2 heads on them and they sound super fat with great tone!
definitely buying this kit from you guys. ... great video's.
that's how a 16" tom should sound
Proper presentation. I've played Gretsch for the last decade but for my new set this is my top contender. The bass and snare sound great. My only concern is the shallow floor tom(14x12). I'm used to the 16x16 but do you think if tuned low it would deliver a low warm tone similar to the 16"? thanks
Diameter is what gives you the note or pitch of the drum. Depth controls sustain. Differences in depth do not affect the note or pitch of the drum.
Translation - The important part of what you are asking has to do with a drum's diameter not depth so if you are concerned about how "low" of a pitch or note from a "shallow" 16" tom you can achieve, the answer is that it will give you same low pitch or note as any other 16" tom.
a shallower tom will give you shorter sustain or ring after the initial attack.
0:17 I’m gettin some Neil peart vibes
5:15 "As close to the 12" tom".. You mean the 10" tom ? ^^
For my own taste, I would like to buy one of these kits. But, I want to get the larger size Tom's and go 10 12 14 16 18....any suggestions?
Sounds great what mic are you using
how does he manage make every kit sound exactly the damn same whenever he plays ?..
He doesn't. Your probably just new to hearing drum sets.
I don't agree, this is one of the very best sounding set videos I've seen/heard...others not so much.
Green sparkle Ludwig was my first.
debating over weather to get this kit or the 7 piece Gretsch Catalina maple... Suggestions anyone?
punchy drums, great sound, I'm sure they sound much better in person
Every fill he does that starts with the 8”. All I can picture is Neil Peart. Am I crazy?
Hearing that 8" made me think of the fill in Tom Sawyer that goes from the keyboard solo to the guitar solo. No you are not crazy
You’re definitely not crazy
debating between this 5pc or a pearl decade? Pearl is a lil cheaper but I like the finishes and wraps better on the Tama. hmmmm are the rims 1.6mm or 2.3. Pretty sure the decade is 1.6.
I don't find this drum kit for sale in Italy. Can you help me?
I really like the blue, but couldn't get the 7 piece in this colour. Nearest I could get was lacebark gloss sapphire. Turns out, in the flesh it is actually petrol green.Slightly bummed. Otherwise, nice kit.
Please make a review of the Tama Superstar Maple Hyperdrive :)
you dont say nothing about the cymbals.....and are amazing
Pearl drums.The best
Really cool kit! I've been stuck between the Tama and the 7 piece PDP, leaning more towards Tama though. I have a drum rack coming in for my other kit that has a virgin bass drum and I'm hoping to use the rack on future kits too. Is it possible to get the Tama bass drum non-drilled?
Hi DkS398! Give us a call at 800-222-4700 and we can help you out!
DkS398 I would definitely go Tama. I know PDP has improved but Tama has always made quality stuff that holds up for decades. For the kick, I am sure you COULD get one undrilled, but you'd be paying a lot more money for somethin that really wouldn't affect too much.
I agree with Alan get the tama superstar classic you won’t be disappointed I have these and there awsome !!! Glad I spent the money on them
Gosh, how do they get the toms to sound that good? I've been through all kinds of heads and two sets, I even have a drum dial tuner with a drum dial sheet that tells me what each tom should be at and I do this and my tom toms sound like African bongos with a very annoying snare buzz. 8inch 10inch 12inch 14inch 16inch all 80B-70R (B-batter R-resonant)snare is 110% perfect at 90B-80R not too fat and not too tight like a marching and I usually prefers the aquarian studio ring on my snare head but for the first time ever I don't need the ring on there. Now, with the toms all of them have aquarian studio rings and still a lot of snare buzz, and I'm probably considering buying more aquarian studio rings and taping two together for each drum even though it would help that much either. And no, moon gel sucks. That stuff will get covered with dust in 3 days and not stick anymore and just fall off all the toms toms.
I want to buy a tama silverstar 8 inch tom but I don't whats the tom arm size?
Howdy again. I'm an Evans drum head man, but these Remo heads really seem to make this kit shine. I heard the bass drum is a Powerstroke 4, but did I miss the snare and tom batter heads? Can you please let us know what you used?
Anyone else wondering, the batter heads are Remo Ambassadors. I got my kit off ebay, a used showroom model that looks new, and Scott with Sweetwater found out the heads used in the video are Amassadors, so I bought a pre-pack from Sweetwater along with the Evans EQ3 batter and resonant for the bass as well as an Evans coated Dry for the snare, and paired with my Pearl Masters MCX snare, they are simply amazing. As stated and heard in the video, the tonal separation is unheard of for a kit in this price range. From high to low (low my favorite), these thin shelled drums will knock your socks off. Going to sell my beloved poplar wood Pearl Export Selects since these have stolen my heart...thanks Sweetwater, Scott and the amazing Mr. Nick D’Virgilio!! (BTW, it's fun trying to be as good as him, but he is way out of my league).
Remos are the best you should really make the switch there way better then anything evans
I hesitate between catalina maple or tama superstar classic maple..
which one do you advise me for a live house game..thank you
Etienne Lessard I’m having the same dilemma
I'm thinking about getting this kit but I need help on the Symbols... Can you tell me what the symbols are that you have in this video? I would like to get these since I like how these sound. I don't know a lot about symbols so need help with these... what kind of hi-hats are these?
You can get a full set of cymbals by Paiste would give you a great sounding set to compliment these drums as I own this kit myself and use mostly Paiste but my hi hats are ziljian custom 14” and I use a 20” ziljian ride. Paiste even has coloured sets of cymbals as well to go with your drums hope this points you in the right direction?
Cant decide over this, the gretsch catalina, ir pdp. Can you guys help me out Ive heard a lot of great things about these great kits
Are these drums heavy to carry? Maple can be heavy, but these drums seem like they have thin shells.
Cymbal rundown would be nice to know too----
when you buy it does it come with cymbals
just got this set. emperor heads. trouble tuning them. what would you tune them to with the drum dial?
Adam Joost I use Aquarian performance 2's and I use the tune bot so I'm not sure about the drum dials specs but they shouldn't be that hard to tune. I found these are pretty easy to tune just finger tighten plus a full turn with some moon gels and you should good to go!
DONT. USE. ELECTRONIC DEVICES. FOR. TUNING.
Tune by ear. Batter head lower than resonance head. The overtones should be the same wherever you hit the drum.
Is the kick drum processed?
what model is that hi hat ? tnx
I just bought this kit in Indigo blue, (stained finish). It's awesome!!!! Although I have EC2 hazy drum heads on it. Does anybody know if coated sounds better????
+Eric Pfaff I LIKE TAMA DRUMS PUT OIL FIELD HEADS ON YOUR SET THEN YOU WILL BE FLIPED OUT GREAT SOUND I HAVE BEEN PLAYING 21yr my self KEEP ON ROCKING
Would I be able to order that 8" tom from Sweetwater separately in indigo sparkle also ?
Hey, SuperNick090. You can order that drum, but it will likely take a long time for us to get. Usually about 9-12 months on special orders.
I hope this helps.

Which one is better between the Tama Superstar Classic and Pdp Concept Maple?
I had the Concept Maple once, very good kit.
Are these stock heads?
I love this kit so much! I just can't stand the wobble the highest three toms have. is there any way to stop that from happening or is there a kit similar to this that doesn't wobble?
My cousin has a Tama Superstar too and the toms also have wobble. Maybe it is because of the die-cast hoops? If yes, then maybe a Tama Silverstar would help.
There are a ton of drumsets like this out there.
@@hannes1734 these dont have diecast hoops they have triple flanged hoops I know because I have these I don’t mind the wobble
@@erictorres4889 Hah, it's been 6 years! Guess what, not long after i wrote that comment, i bought a Tama Superstar Hyperdrive for myself. The toms are fairly light so they don't wobble too much. I'm gonna upgrade in the next few years though. 10-12-14-16 toms just don't cut it for me anymore, i want to go BIG haha
Anyone know if this has a 24 inch bass drum option?
Does it come with a drum pedal?
I'm thinking of buying myself a drum set, but I cannot choose between the Pearl Maple Decade 7-piece, Tama 7-piece, and the PDP Maple 7-piece. This question may seem obvious to some, but for me, I've heard that all brands are good and I've checked out videos and they all sound awesome. I want to make sure the drum set I get is good (especially the cymbals, decent cymbals for the price). I'm more convinced with Pearl, but I want to be sure. Please help me out here!
I'd go with this one, check out the Pearl Session Studio Classic too
Jo Jo idk but my favorite is the pearl. the tom depths are better, makes a better tom sound when you run them up and down.. I love this one and the pearl.. but pearl sounds better..
Jo Jo I go with the PDP Concept Maple
Jo Jo what style of music do you play?
Assassin Gamer64 Mainly alternative rock, but I already found an awesome kit that I love so I'm happy with that.
what is the best, this or the gretsh catalina or the mapex armory??? thanks
i am stuck with the same question...
Sounds a bit hollow no? I'm guessing it's competitively priced though
If I could get this with 2 bass drums I'd get it in a second (I can't stand double-pedals) and I'm a progressive metal drummer and use double-bass quite often. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Hi SpideryFan6! Give us a call at 800-222-4700 and we should be able to assist your further. Thanks!
SweetwaterSound Okay I will! Thanks! And I'm not trying to sound picky but as cool as the blue sparkle shells are, could the color be a dark green sparkle instead of blue?
To me these are even more pro then the actual so called “prodrums” that comes with less toms and most of the time no snares these are the drums that speak to me and my playing style
Would this be a good kit for metal? if not do you guys have any recommendations?
Yes it would be .
Can I buy that 8 inch Tom separately indigo sparkle from Sweetwater ?
Hey, Jenny. We can definitely help with that. It would be a special order, though. It would take some time to get.

At 5:32 when he said "Tama T-badge" I thought he was gonna say "Tama T-bag"
are the heads that you're playing the Stock heads?
Not they are remo drumheads
Tama's best-sounding kit?
cool video, the buzz buzzes. ha-ha
I bet the kick pedal needs to be adjusted. I hear that "click" or "slap" that I had with my Iron Cobra. It drove me crazy until I fixed the pedal.
