I love Tama drums, I'm a collector and recently got a Mastercraft stave oak piccolo from the 90's. I have the cocktail kit, cute and been useful for awhile, now I want something in between the cocktail and the 22-12-16, still small and portable. This kit looks fantastic to me. The cream marble wrap is completely ridiculous. Surprisingly, the cocktail kit snare comes with a really nice cam action strainer, as it should be the case here. It is a more expensive kit however...
good review. I have this kit also, been playing it for a couple years. Thanks for the heads up on the hardware issues, think i'll just start using a snare stand for my rack tom to avoid it. Thanks!
If you still haven't been able to replace that lug, try Ludwig Atlas Mount. It's universal and can fit just about any drum. It even comes with it's own gaskets too. It works like a charm on my Gretsch kit.
@@BrendrumJones it's a wonderful lug. My rack tom was on a snare stand the entire time because there was no tom mount installed to it. The rim suspension mount wasn't compatible with my drum, so naturally I stumbled upon the Atlas mount and I haven't looked back ever since (because the only options were either drill the holes into my rack tom or the Atlas mount) Just something to think about in case you ever encounter the same problem I did. Stay safe, lad.
@@BrendrumJones how is the replacement part holding up? Great review my friend. Moving to a big city so trying to sell the big drums and get a smaller kit...Maybe it will be the tama
i have this kit and 1) snare: with evans hd dry (batter) and remo emperor(reso) ok. no problem. with lighter heads, it was annoying. 2) bass drum: needs a very good selection of pedal. or a riser. or both. very difficult. 3) toms: i agree what you said.
@@jannismpoug dang I hope I’m not wasting money! Is it really that hard to get the kick pedal lined up or you just like the sound of the 20” vs an 18” ?
I use the full classic hardware pack, along with the Tom stand. I purchased a second classic hardware case too. Transport all my hardware in the two classic bags.
It's cost you roughly 1 euro/gig. With 300+gigs it sounds like with just a tom mount that's fractured, I think that is all round fantastic! I just picked up a used one, my back loves it!
I won an ebay auction and this same snare is on the way to me. Paid $67 USD shipping included. Mint condition...I think I can work with it when I get it. Thanks for posting.
Hello, yes they’re very good and am still using them to this day , here’s the review Tama Light Hardware set Review ua-cam.com/video/Fc_3uZYB1Vw/v-deo.html
Tama.... brilliant drums but always a bugger with replacement hardware. Swap the tom mount for a yamaha one. "Stage custom hip" may be potentially similar. PS looking into one of these kits and I love your 4 years later review. Super helpful. Thank you!
@@BrendrumJones Checked it out thanks! I actually changed my mind and set my sights on a PDP new yorker. But then a second hand Club Jam came up that very day.... Suspicious. So I bought it.
@William Perri yep. I got one and never looked back. Great kit. I’m now experimenting with thick and thin heads to get oomph out of the floor Tom. I’m not 100% sold on the 10” rack tom (although it’s great for Latin!). So eventually I may look for a 12. But… all in all, brilliant kit.
So the Tama website now has the spare parts catalogue for this. Go to the website click the club jam and scroll to bottom - select drum parts - ton bracket
I got this kit for home practice and it's pretty cool. The only problem I have is with tuning. I've never had such a hard time tuning a floor tom in my life. And I LOVE TUNING DRUMS. I wish I could play drums as well as I can tune :)) LOL. But that little son of ...... it gave me white hairs. And when I think I'm done, I'm not. Cause after an hour of playing it needs some adjustments. So, great kit if you can tune it :))
Dont know if this is still relevant or not but you could have used a rim mounted solution instead of replacing a shell mounted tom mount. Like Gibraltar Rims, or Pearl ISS. That way, you are also a bit more flexible in what mount to use because both can take different hole patterns for the holder itself.
I really want this kit for my birthday i really like the satin blonde finish but now that i have seen this video am wondering if i should get a yamaha be bop kit in raven black but am not to sure what i want what do you recommend?

Hello Ben, Nice Review! Planning to get the club jam suitcase this week. Are you using the CACLJ Cymbal holder? Whats the size of your Ride? Im thinking if it can hold a 20" ride. Thanks!
@@BrendrumJones Totally agree that it’s something people should know if they’re buying the kit. Before even putting the heads on they should put a drop of Loctite (blue) on the hardware threads that are inside the drum shells and then tighten them down. It’s good stuff!
Sounds like it's worth buying this kit and getting ones preferred snare. I guess a pro would do extra tightening before assembly and maybe a small dot of screw fix on each screw before both sons are attached... (thanks for the tip ;) )
Hey Brendan - greetings from Westmeath - loved the review but I'm wondering if you think the Club Jam is a good first kit for someone starting with no existing equipment. The most equipped option to buy (with throne, hi-hat stand & bass pedal) goes for a little under 700 Euro. Throw in the cymbals and you won't have much change from 900 or so. I absolutely love the vintage jazz vibe from it but the Pearl Roadshow with 18" bass, all the hardware and cymbals, sticks, etc. is just over 600 Euro. Having a hard time deciding. Head says Pearl, heart says Tama. Any advice? Thanks, Dermot.
Hey Dermot , thanks for saying so. There both very good. Now my own experience has been with the tama, so I could say that it’s really great however if your looking for everything included then you can go wrong with the Pearl bundle. They made good stuff. Let me know how you get on. Brendan
@@BrendrumJones Thanks for the advice, Brendan. Head prevailed in the end and I opted for the Pearl. The head sizes seem more aligned with a jazz configuration plus I discovered that I can use the second tom holder on the bass drum for the cymbal as an option. So it seems a bit more flexible that way. I'll still have a gra for that lovely Tama though!
To be honest, I don't know why you seem to be making a bigger deal out of the tom holder cracking than needs be. You don't need the proprietary tama holder. Just get a nicer one from Gibraltar or the Ludwig one. However, I definitely love that Tama has their entire back catalogues of parts publicly available!
Hi Ben, great review. For the inside screws of the 10 inch tom, you should try loctite (glue for screws in automotive mecanic) :) and for the tom holder maybe you can adapt another brand ? So you could replace it easier if a problem happen again...
Ah..you see now..i was starting to lean towards it in a positive way..till you flagged up the issues. I'm pretty shocked at tama being so ropey with design..i havnt quite made up my mind lol thanks
Its very strange this crack on tama ,,, Tama always good quality but what´s happened ? Seems like a mapex quality lugs ... Bad for TAMA... I ´m disappointed . I cant belive this...
Not really as it looks like cheap generic chinese steel to me, they are built to a price point (Same for guitars, the hardware is always the cheapest part) and that lug looks just like one off my 70's Aria Kit, cheap. Easy to replace for something stronger and let's not forget, this Kit has been played more than most might use one so some of the issues might not appear for others. As long as you have a solid base to build from, which this seems to have, parts are easy to change for better ones to improve the kit to suit your use. These reviews are the best as it's a test of long term reliability and if on a budget then that is important.
