- Iowa State has not really ever been known for football over their 132 years of existence. They have never won the Big 12 Conference or played in the conference title game, they have an all-time losing record with 554 wins to 670 losses and 46 ties, and for the most part have been dominated by in-state rival Iowa even going on a 15-game losing streak from 1983-1997. That all changed under head coach Matt Campbell who just became the school’s winningest head coach. This is the rise of Iowa State under Matt Campbell.

Much better take on the Cyclones than most outsiders come up with. You only missed two major elements: Jack Trice - the man and the stadium. Game day at Jack Trice Stadium has elite tailgating and wildly dedicated fans. Only a few places in CFB even come close to what happens in Ames.
And Jack Trice, the man and his story, resonates throughout the team. Even more because of the big anniversary laat year. To understand Iowa State, you have to read the Jack Trice letter.
Troy Davis, Seneca Wallace, Jake Knott, AK47, Brock Purdy, Breece Hall, Allen Lazard, David Montgomery, Will McDonald, Charlie Kolar, and alot player not named gave us a great foundation for what we are now!!

It just makes me laugh they now have a segment on GameDay called cyclones in the nfl just playing breece hall, monty, Purdy, lazard, and occasionally Kollar updates. Would not have happened prior to Campbell.
Having watched the Cyclones when growing up to see them finally have success has been great to watch. I think we'll have Coach Campbell for years to come. Definitely saw a marked difference in play since he's come on board.

While the rest of football is chasing transfers and NIL and greener pasture conferences, Matt Campbell has been fulfilling his vision of building a Division 1 Mt Union.

It’s not that Iowa st is better it’s the rest of the big 12 is worse. They’ve literally beaten 1 decent team so far the rest of the schedule has been garbage. I like Matt Campbell and I think he’s done well at Iowa st but this years team isn’t by any means a great team they’ve just had an easy schedule to date.
At this time in the season, what you say about strength of schedule is true for most schools.

@@tylerljohnson Except early in the season we don't know who is a great team. We're only projecting from last year. Most P4 schools play 2-3 G5 & lower schools and 1, sometimes 2 schools from the P4 that people EXPECT to be better. Was ISU's win against Iowa meaningful? We won't know until later in the season.

All I am saying is the sentence actively avoids acknowledging that it is indeed possible that Iowa State has improved. It asserts they have not. and the ONLY reason they are where they are is because of the failures of their opponents.
Its an oversimplification of where we are at in the season.
