Nothing more delicious than a soft, juiced thru koesiester! I never drain mine! I lift it straight from the oil, let it drip for a second or 2, then into the sugar syrup, & boil it there for a minute or 2, then straight into the coconut, and they come out soft, juicy (soggy, as you call it), and drop dead delicious! Usually when I make them here in Europe for family and friends, the whole batch of around 60, is wolfed down immediately with everyone wanting more! Family of course already know koeksisters and so far no-one has complained of the soft, juicy consistency. In fact, they absolutely love it that way, and not dry on the inside. I will keep doing it this way. What I did learn new from this video, is that you make it completely flat before you put them in the oil! I always made them flattish, but not quite as flat as you do & I never could get the shape I was used to in CT. We too, had them every Sunday, but usually we bought our stash from a family friend, on the way home from church. She made them every Sunday and sold them to many in our neighborhoods who just could not do without their Sunday Koeksisters! Still warm! Yummmmmm!!
I have never tried making koeksister as i saw my mum making it ,it always looks soooo much to do ,but i should try it one day in sha Allah ,its sooooo yummy....😊👏
You've gotta look into the camera, Salwaa, not at yourself :) Going to try this this weekend. Colleagues here in Europe are waiting for my promised SA "doughnuts!" Wish me luck! :P
Hi Saalwa Question.hoe do you treat your used oil everytime, since you people are doing a lot of baking.do you throw it away or do uou re use it, if so, how do you re use it. Greetings
Hi Salwaa.I’m a South African I’m living in NZ for many years, I have never stop making koeksisters as I grew up in Cape Town.I have a granddaughter who is egg and dairy free,so she can’t eat it ,I have looked up so many recipe, and have tried to make it I just don’t like the texture it’s either dry or tasteless would love to make some for her,as she is always left out, could you send me your vegan recipe of koeksisters , please, thanks for this recipe,I just watched
@@capemalaycooking Hi Salwaa, thank you for your swift answer,my granddaughter is going to be the happiest girl, this weekend, she is only 3. Thank you again God bless
Here is a typical blend of spices used to make mixed spice: 1 Tbs ground allspice 1 Tbs ground cinnamon 1 Tbs ground nutmeg 2 tsp ground mace 1 tsp ground cloves 1 tsp ground coriander 1 tsp ground Ginger Blend all spices together, and store in a sealed jar away from light.
Its difficult to explain mixed spice. I don't use mixed spice. Its optional and so is the naartjie spice. Cardamom powder is lovely in the koesisters but is also very expensive in South Africa.
Thanks for sharing I grew up on a Sunday morning we would buy koeksisters and that be our breakfast.
Lovely memories ❤️

If one wants to make a gluten free version, how much GF flour would one use?
How much yeast in grams? You just say a packet of yeast? Different sized packets in different countries.....
A pkt of yeast is usually 10grams. Which is also a tablespoon.
Who tried making this koeksister
How much yeast do u. Need please
Slm just need to know what does mix spice consist of please as I'm in India and can't find that name
Here is a typical blend of spices used to make mixed spice:
1 Tbs ground allspice
1 Tbs ground cinnamon
1 Tbs ground nutmeg
2 tsp ground mace
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp ground Ginger
Blend all spices together, and store in a sealed jar away from light.
Like to make it but need to know the amount of spices in ml please my dear urgently
Sorry for the late reply! I'll add the quantities asap
Hello, what is mix spice??? I'm not in South africa, butbi want to make koesisters.
I think its a mixture of cinnamon; nutmeg n maybe more...maybe a little ginger...im not an expert..just trying to help..... south african born from nz
Mixed spice is optional. You can make it without it.
Slm what all is in the mix spice...
Its difficult to explain mixed spice. I don't use mixed spice. Its optional and so is the naartjie spice. Cardamom powder is lovely in the koesisters but is also very expensive in South Africa.
If I want more than 25 koeksisters how does it go about
Double the recipe
I usually get 8 koesisters from a cup of flour. It depends on the size of your balls.
Can I get a reply please
