  • The video is a little bit long, but in real time. And the painting is not finished yet. There will be a short video in the next day with the finished details.
    My way to paint
I always start my pictures very intuitively, be it with the choice of color or with the selection of markmaking tools.
When I stand in front of the blank paper, I am always extremely happy to activate it with pens, charcoal and markers. I try everything that appeals to me and excites me at this moment.
The painting always looks very chaotic after this first step, but that is exactly what defines my style of painting, and that is what I like. Because I know, that many marks will disappear, but also some of them will remain. Which remain and which disappear, I like to leave to chance.
In the following steps I repeat this intuitive process. I take the tools that appeal to me the most and put color on the paper. I enjoy every step. Everything I do now is pure pleasure in painting. The result is still not an theme at all. I let happen what will happen in this time. If I feel that I particularly like something, be it a line, a color, a scribble or painting with a spatula, then I do more of it.
At some point I start looking at the picture from a distance and see if the picture now wants to show itself. If no, I continue as described above, if yes, then I try to go into the dialogue with the image. I then ask myself what does the picture want and what do I want so that I could like the picture. Are there parts that I like and that I don't want to change now.
When I look at the picture from a distance, I pay attention to what bothers me the most. Then I go to the picture and just change that area. Then I look at the picture from a distance again and repeat this step until I am satisfied.
In the best case, the painting will be finished.
But it is often the case, that I let the painting rest for a day and then look at it with new eyes. I need this distance to the painting in order to judge whether I still have to add something or whether I am repainting entire areas.
If a picture doesn't work out at all, then I boldly paint over a larger area. Because I know that every change, no matter how small, gives the picture a completely new direction.
What I've learned in all of my years with abstract painting is to trust me. I trust in me that also a painting that I can`t love at the moment will be at any time a painting that satisfied me. Some paintings need more time to be finished and other are quickly complete.
My best pictures mostly come by hazard. Then when I let myself go 100 percent and allow myself everything that is fun. However, this state of complete devotion to a picture is not always there for me either.
But because I know that, I keep trying to get back into this feelings. If you practice this and trust yourself, you will succeed more and more often.
    My recommendations to you are
    1. Trust yourself
    2. Enjoy the painting process and don't think about the result
    3. If you do something in your picture that you like, do more of it
    4. Allow yourself to play and experiment
    5. You and only you have to like what you paint
