  • Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
    waiting 'round the bend,
    my huckleberry friend,
    Moon River and me.

I agree with the both of you. And the beautiful thing about this song is just about anyone can sing this song without much difficulty as long as long they have some musical talent. It's not too high or not too low for anyone to sing. Audrey Hepburn was not known to be singer and she didn't even sing a note in any of her movies until Breakfast At Tiffany's.

Brilliant version. It really demonstrates what a great voice Elton John has. He demonstrates such wonderful musicianship in his arrangement of this much loved classic. Combined with his fabulous piano playing this is hard to top. I think only Audrey can do so and she does so by her sensitivity, great beauty and singing and playing in the context of Holly Golightly’s life story. There are just some songs that bridge the generations. This is one of them. Tonight is Mid-Autumn Moon Festival in Hong Kong and China and Vietnam. Andy Williams wasn't a superstar, like today. My favourite song from first hearing it from Breakfast at Tiffanys. That and other songs made me want to travel. And I did. But now hate being here in England under the TORY regime. I am 76 so have had my time but urge younger people to go, follow your dreams. Last year I went to Bali, Indonesia, to stay with my son and his lovely wife Ari, and I hope to go again soon.

Wow! anyone can sing beautifully but not all singers can put emotions in their songs. Elton did an amazing job by putting raw emotions in this performance.

Not to nit-pick but he's also a great humanitarian.
I got to see him twice in Cincinnati. 1977 and again in the 90s.
He was late opening his 90s show because Mick Jagger was passing through and came to Riverbend to see him. Or so we were told.

Nobody sings this like Andy Williams. Brings me to tears every time. Audrey Hepburn in the movie is beautiful, but more wistful. All these other nobodies we've never heard of can't ever stand up to the originals. I don't like Elton singing it either.

    • @DianeHasHopeInChrist

He killed it alright. Moon River is NOT a "belt it out" song.
The very first syllable, Elton sounded like he was constipated and trying to push a stuck turd out.
Moon River requires soft tenderness, expressing hope in love. Elton John cannot do that.
A great singer is one who knows his limitations. This song is NOT a song for a guy who belts out, screams, yells every song.
      This rendition sucked.
Audrey Hepburn's version is still the most beautifully conveyed and best done. She is why it won an Academy Award.
      Just speaking a courageous truth.

    Moon River
Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossin' you in style some day
    Oh, dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
    Waitin' 'round the bend
    My huckleberry friend
    Moon River, and me
Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossin' you in style some day
    Oh, dream maker, you heartbreaker

    Meu doce e aventureiro amigo
    Rio da Lua, e eu
Rio da Lua, mais largo do que uma milha
Eu irei de encontro a você com elegância, qualquer dia
Oh, seu sonhador, você partiu meu coração
