Few great actors have been so unfairly represented in the public image. Drunk, a wastrel, uncontrollable, unprofessional, besotted with glamour and wealth - just a few epithets dumped on Richard Burton. This documentary, made at Richard Burton's widow's request, is a small celebration of an extraordinary man whose public image may have been seen as much different.
Tony Palmer's 121 minute portrait of actor Richard Burton, featuring Sally Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Kate Burton, Philip Burton, Lauren Bacall, Joe Mankiewicz, Mike Nichols, Robert Hardy, Sir John Gielgud, Claire Bloom, Emlyn Williams and John Neville.

Excellent biography! Burton was a giant. I saw his "Hamlet" on stage in 1964 and have never forgotten it --- after nearly 50 years. He was truly the quintessential "Hamlet" of our age.
How amazing to have seen him on stage and in "Hamlet"!
What luck! Brilliant.
Burton appears to have been one of the most intellectually gifted actors of all time. Look at his library, the depth of his interest, his genius. Bravo.
First of all, before calling anyone an intellectual, a person has to understand what an intellectual _is,_ which is complicated. While I agree that Burton was highly intelligent, he didn’t act that way for much of his life, however many books he read. Next, intellectuals read cerebral novels, by and large, novels with which the intellect must be fully engaged to get the meaning, and they read widely in nonfiction genres. There is research involved, engagement with ideas, interest in the ideas of others. Does this describe Burton? Not from what I’ve read. Another big point is this: the size of Burton’s library doesn’t mean anything; people can own thousands of books they never open, so that’s no indication of anything. There’s no indication of the subject matter of those books, either. For much of his professional life, Burton was drinking or drunk, and in the constant presence of flunkies. That doesn’t seem very intellectual to me.
Such a travesty in so many ways. The trauma of suddenly never seeing & feeling the love of his mother, the split of the family, the absence of the father, His inability to see how gifted he was ..... ??? Some scenes I watch over & over just because of the way he expresses the human emotion so accurately. Sometimes we have just what we need but immaturity blinds us.
Richard Burton was a incredible actor. I could listen to his voice all day!
It's a shame he never won an Oscar because Richard Burton gave outstanding performances. To name a few: Who is Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Anne of a Thousand Days! Let's not forget his Hamlet and Camelot!
@@voraciousreader3341 Richard Burton was very well read!
@@maryjdrapptackson Still one of the greatest actors. As simple as that.
They don't make em like this anymore. He blazed through like a comet lighting up everything in his path. R.I.P. Richard and thank you.
No one else can do “ Hamlet “ like him…..
Agreed. I really enjoy watching his Hamlet
what a man! such charm, charisma, wit, talent, generosity. plus, the greatest voice of all time. RIP Richard Burton - a true Welsh legend. diolch
Long time fan of the man. Always tried to figure out the complexity of the man's personality. I think he was always aware that despite his stratospheric fame, good luck and millions, the yacht, the jet, the jewels, the houses and Elizabeth, the clock was ticking and would end in the grave sooner rather than later. I believe he was intelligent enough to have this always in his mind, that in the long run it was all very fleeting and meaningless. He was afraid of being forgotten and he was correct in this fear. He has largely been forgotten. The houses, the jet, the yacht sold. The jewels auctioned off. The films for the most part, unveiwed by subsequent generations. Elizabeth moved on and now deceased.
He was meant for greater riches than he could dream of, as we all are. I hope somehow he made it to those gates.
@@booboo61 He is largely forgotten in the US by anyone under 45. Elizabeth Taylor is also becoming unknown in the younger generation. These were film stars in movies the young people do not watch anymore. It's a shame but it is fact. My point is he was correct in many ways. I will always love him. I met him on several occasions and had the chance to exchange some conversation with him. He was wonderful.
@@booboo61 And I responded as if it were a healthy debate. (?)
"He began to confuse "seeming and being" .. and once he took the leap into movie magazine immortality with Elizabeth... he left behind any core of "Being" that he was entirely surrounded by "Seeming"... and that left him very lonely"
~ Mike Nichols
Quite a profound observation
He was an outstanding actor and a very charismatic character. Thanks for sharing such great documentary.
Richard was wondering why him? One word that comes to mind is charisma!😊
There is a sadness about him, something heartbreaking. He was known for being very generous. I saw him in person in 1978 and he looked even worse than this. If this is 1983, Burton did not have long to live, a tragedy.
His mother died when he was a young boy. This propelled his gift for performing tragic roles on stage and screen.
Kate Burton’s comments are so insightful. I’m also struck by the sadness in Cecilia (Burton’s eldest sister) eyes. Pained. Very good documentary. Thanks for posting.
It took a while to find a definitive biography of this man. I found it in here. Hats off to the poster.
Amazing man,I have read every book about Burton and always amazed how much he crammed into one life time ,the light burned bright but premature!
So have i read every book that has been written about Richard Burton including his diaries !!!
"Richard Burton: My Brother" by Graham Jenkins. Excellent Book.
Though he was not born to it, he worked for it, and became the most eloquent, articulate, and emotive actor of all times. See the films, there is no one compares to him! d
stewart grander
The most naturally talented actor that has ever drawn breath. I live about 7 miles away from his birthplace so I could possibly be biased - the beautiful Afan Valley. I totally agree with the comments in this piece about Richard having an effect on people - when I pass through Pontrhydyfen it's like you can sense the man - it's almost eerie.
Thank you Simon. I am an American, very old now, nearing 78...and I am saddened some by the fact that, though being a film watcher and avid reader since a small boy, I never really caught on to what I missed by not seeing R. Burton more than I did. In later years I did discover more of him when I heard him quoting from Camelot. I was so moved by it I began to delve more & more into Mr Burtons works that I missed (or often had to observe again.)
It was when he was about 50, looking as great as he ever did...what a manner he had about himself. I learned much of his humble upbringing, same as mine in ways. I simply loved and appreciated him even more after this 2 hour interview (a talk really.) He died so young, at 53 I think. He was truly a fine man, a great man in my eyes, such humility and kind ways he had. I am sorry I did not ever meet him somehow. Thank goodness we do have such as him come into this world from time to time.
His life was a poem, a tragedy, a triumph !
He most probably would have preferred to have been a professor at a university, but his financial obligations meant he had to earn a lot of money. He was stuck. Credit to him that he loved them that much. Not perfect but a good man.
I have been in love with Richard Burton and his work since I was a small child. He was brilliant and beautiful. May he rest in peace but there will be no man like him ever again.
Watch Bill Weise 23 minuets in hell on you tubeand SEE who goes to heaven! Be blessed!
A great actor and one of the most fascinating men who ever achieved celebrity...
I like the sometimes sad expression of his face and his voice!I could watch him over and over again!
Thank you to everyone who made it possible to film the documentary in which you want to get a little closer and introduce us to Richard through his life, although it is not possible to guess what kind of life he had with words and pictures, but it means a lot to us younger generations because, simply put, he was a legend and a star, but unfortunately before he left us early. Thank you to The World Of Burton for posting the video.
No word's for say what a great actor was..He deserved the highest price for what he left of the yuong generation.Poor from family, but rich in heart, most intelligente and greatest actor. Never cames another. His sister so amazing family.R.I.P. Never forgotten.Thank yuo so much for this great documentary.
The point is not someone become Burton on the screen, it is to have someone perform a solid (and correct) portrayal of Richard Burton and introduce him to newer generations that probably don't know who he is. Some 20-somethings actually think he's a father or uncle to Tim Burton! Richard Burton was and will always be (iMho) a great personality who should not be forgotten.
Thank you for watching and the comments.
I agree..but not this documentary
The World of Burton i think the reason there hasn’t been s movie made about his life is because there is no one who could adequately portray such a giant talent.
YOU KNOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 2 MOVIES ABOUT RICHARD.RIGHT,BROTHER???? p.s ive watched your channel since i was like 14 :D
Totally agree. It will be very difficult to find the man and voice to portray him.❗
The way Brooke Williams looks away in sadness when he speaks of him is very touching.
No wonder Elizabeth Taylor never got over him
this documentary blames all on elizabeth
Brilliant , Wonderful Documentary. Richard Burton was A Genius and A Legend, the likes of Whom We Shall Never See Again.
R.I.P. Mr Richard Burton Sir.
A very Big Thank You to The World of Burton for Sharing.
I feel the same way!
A man of Genius and Torment.
Richard Burton was enormes actor. He deserved much more in life.So sad no win an Oscar that is incredibile. He was an most intelligente man and greatest actor.Beautiful and hope so yuong generation study him.Remember forever.Thank yuo for this wonderful documentary.
His intelligence and love of literature were the basis of his talent, along with the work of developing his voice. He was gorgeous and charismatic, but first off because of his brains.
KMLeiws 2020 Re: Burton: In From the Cold: A very well organized collage of moments and events in Burton’s life. Reading the ‘Diaries’ made this program all the more relevant. I find it hard to believe he didn’t write during some periods, maybe ‘yes’, maybe ‘no’ as he was scrupulous with details even the tough relationships and events. I wish tho, this collage included a cut from the Sammy Davis show where Richard and Elizabeth sang the Welsh love song, ‘Ar ian y more mar rhosys cochion…’ so beautiful and warm as they were then. As for Lauren Bacall she was intensely protective of Bogart - perhaps this caused a tilt in her diatribe.
Please read the Richard Burton diaries for a true insight from childhood to the end. So insightful and well documented.
This is an excellent and well- balanced portrayal of a sometimes great film actor.
Richard Burton and Richard Harris where the BEST actor's EVER.
I miss the both.
Agree.
Those were Actors.
***** Thank You, yes indeed.
The list would be even longer, to name so many GREAT actors.
them
Absolutely true!
O Toole!
Welsh wizard Richard Burton enjoyed his very fast life and made some great film and stage memories..Makes me proud to be WELSH..Cheers from Swansea WALES..
As just an Englishman from Kent, the man R Burton makes me feel proud that he makes you proud to be Welsh! That man makes everyone love the Welsh. He was the best actor ever - what a bloody VOICE.
Elizabeth Taylor Was Actually Born In Great Britain
I loved the extract from The Spy Who Came In From the Cold' with Claire Bloom. A wonderful, wonderful performance of self-loathing vulnerability mixed with guile and cynicism.
Richard Burton Welshman ! What an actor what a man - what a paradox
The only one to do Macbeth successfully….❤❤
One of the finest actors of all times
An educated man. A man of letters and brilliance. Also sadly a man defeated by the drink and demons
Crying my eyes out at that funeral footage. So desperately sad. I love Dido's Lament and here it becomes sadder than sad. God rest you, Rich. You will be remembered with love and admiration xx
One of the best actors of all time
Remarkable genius from a humble background... We will all ways remembered him as the king of Wales.!!
I love his daughter she has the same depth and sincerity as his simple honest welsh family. Everyonelse came from a superficial source. When he was young he was like a locomotive but unfortunately later on in life the locomotive lost control and yearned to get back to its roots its essence. The man Richard Burton is both theatre and Hollywood as colourful as the kings equisite garments
exquisite.
Very nicely put.
His published diaries are a joy to read A complex and amazing man
My favorite and respectable man, actor.
I just love Richard Burton. Well,as a fellow South Walian,I would,wouldn't I?
No one quite like him, before,or since.
agree, read all the books and about Taylor and Bloom etc etc
Most Welsh people are good actors: Richard Burton, Catherine Zeta Jones who else.
Anthony Hopkins is Welsh and he's also great actor. 👍 He also has the same kind of unique timber to his voice that Richard Burton had. There's no mistaking these two wonderful actors for anyone else. Their voices are unique.
Richard Barton was a genious and part of his anger and tragedy was losing his mother in such a tender age. His sister Cicelia and husband raised him but still. This world was not meant for one as beautiful as you Richard Barton. Losing such a genious is devasted.
I love old school Movie business! The actors were pure class. They could never amount to this mans brilliance in Hollywood today. Richard Burton was very proud of his Welsh heritage. Imagine one of the PC Sheep in Hollywood today revealing their pride in their Welsh heritage!? They would be humiliated and then they would come out for public apology.
Thank you for posting this. It, and the man himself, were fabulous
Richard Burton is incomparable! His voice alone is divine!
11:16 it's funny that he lived right down in South Wales but the Welsh he spoke was just like the Welsh I heard growing up where people would say "be' ti'n moyn?" (what do you want) and I lived miles away, closer to Cardigan (about 60 miles away). It's a shame he died so early. I would have loved to see him in a film actually in Welsh but there was no Welsh TV channel back in 1984 when he died...
Thanks for uploading this! I think imho, that Richard Burton is way too iconic and talented to have anyone play him in a film and do it well. Anyone that would play him and do it well would have to be nearly as great as Burton.
An absolutely engrossing, fabulous documentary. Thank you for uploading.
He wasMy favourite actor!
I'm reading 'and God created Burton'. This is the perfect accompaniment to that book. Thank you.
Dionysian. Faustian. Hamlet. Othello. passion, often badly lacking wisdom. but brilliant & intense. always brilliant, tragic, and intense. I remember a comment by Lee Marvin when asked about Richard's constant drinking on & off the set in a movie they were doing at the time: "Leave him alone; the man is in pain; who knows what it is?" I think the number one pain was the gnawing sense that he had betrayed the wife who loved him, ... and his children, resultantly, as well.
Rest in Blessed Peace Dear Richard Burton. Your Grand Achievements have made you Immortal, and you did it in a Dignified and Humble Way, which is Refreshing as well as Exhilerating.
May God Bless You, Protect You, And Keep You Close To Him.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
As a fan of Elizabeth, I still find Richard to be an equal presence in his own right. It's interesting how he was always on the path of self destruction. Internally, not even just emotionally, he had epilepsy, hemophilia, his back problems, his insides were ravaged by his addictions. He had a real strength of character and talent that acted as a life support for ages before he died. Truly amazing. Though, of course, I wish it had been easier for him.
So well said!!
Elizabeth, however, was his destruction….. she was the evil witch in every man’s life she encountered…..‼️‼️⁉️
Edited: can’t help but wonder why they couldn’t find a British actress to play Cleopatra…. I’m sure there were more talented and beautiful British actresses at the time……‼️⁉️🇺🇸
@@kaypee4704 The bosses at 20th wanted to attract a wide audience. LT was the #1 box office attraction in the U.S. in 1961 and on the Quigley top 10 for years. Burton appeared on the list after appearing in Cleopatra.
what a voice i could listen to him all day............................
I was talking the other day to a 30 year old Welshman - from south Wales at that - and he had never heard of Richard Burton. I told him there are places where he needs to be careful making such an admission!
Lauren Bacall, who I always liked, especially having seen her in "Applause" on Broadway, wow, here's the thoughts: "plank in eye..." "people in glass houses ..." "pot calling kettle..." I recently saw the photographs of Bacall's crib in the Dakota. It is what it is. I don't know what Bacall's giving to others was, if any, but Burton was clearly generous, and Elizabeth has also been known for her generosity. The fact is they didn't hoard money, it circulated, and somebody benefitted. So much better than the greedy hoarding that you see nowadays among individuals and corporations, which is benefitting no one.
I listen to endless amounts of the "In our Time podcast", so was amazing to hear Melvyn Bragg's voice exactly as it is now, with his looks from 40 years ago 😄
Rather sad to see the otherwise wonderful Lauren Bacall criticise Richard Burton for wanting to earn a lot. He came from poverty so it's perfectly understandable. He looked after every member of his large family and was generous to a fault. That costs money! He had no airs and graces, and was the first to admit that he often took on dubious film projects because he wanted to work and because he enjoyed the benefits of wealth and fame. He made sure his family and friends shared these benefits. Bacall adds an unnecessarily sour note to this excellent documentary. I disagree completely with her cold, judgemental comments. Burton was wildly generous, even to comparative strangers.
+Paula cunningham shennan Lauren loved Richard a great deal in spite of the lamentable feel to her words. I think she believed that his true talent never quite came out. Booze and fame got in the way. She was judgmental because she knew him very well. He was one of Bogie's best friends. A flawed man was Richard Burton. But a wonderful man also.
+Paula cunningham shennan - I wonder if Bacall was trying to brag or really believed it herself. There's a slight touch of "the lady doth protest too much", to her.....
From what I have read Bacall had very left leaning political beliefs. We may be seeing that on display here as well.
Typical Jew behaviour in Hollywood, nothing has changed today.
Choosing a rather silly thing to pick at really since they were really good friends--she just expected a great deal more from him than he was prepared EVER to give.
This was excellent...wonderful...
All of my life I have simply adored the great British Isles actors. Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris, Laurence Olivier, Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud, Charles Laughton, Alec Guinness, Oliver Reed. All of the foregoing are much older than myself generationally and of all of them, the only one I ever actually met was Richard Harris who was here in MN when I was in my 20's, acting in a play. The top 4 in order of ascendancy imho, are #1 Laurence Olivier, #2 Peter O'Toole, #3 Richard Burton, #4 Oliver Reed. Of special note to me is the *real* bearer of the title "man of a 1,000 faces is Alec Guinness--def NOT! Lon Chaney--best Fagin in Oliver Twist of ALL time! Oliver Reed scared me the most of all of them in playing Bill Sikes in the musical "Oliver. I have favorite films for every one of them. We have had some "greats" emerge from this side of the pond but somehow they just don't quite live up to the aforementioned British, Irish, Welsh and Scottish actors named here because they are all so incredibly multi-faceted as compared to Americans of their like, but they're not similar in terms of talent. PERIOD. Best female British actress w/o question, is Vanessa Redgrave! A few come kind of close but never truly near her, in terms of prowess. This doc truly made me cry--Remember when he died, I really cried over his death because he should have had a much longer life, but he didn't treat his body very well during his lifetime
Deborah Cepeda Richard Harris was IRISH.
NO ONE. No modern, insipid 'actor' could ever impersonate Burton in a film of his life...the man was a one off. This documentary epitomizes the man that was Richard Burton. A perfect companion piece is The Richard Burton Diaries. The man was in essence a mysanthopic cyncicist by his own admission. He liked no one really, save a few. He had a real compassion for animals and nature...its the reason I admire him. His character and temperament is just like mine. The moods, the anger, the vitriol...he probably had Borderline Personality Disorder like myself. He is one if the few men I like. RIP Mr Burton...
This is a typical case of,it only goes to prove that true talent, originality and culture comes from the bottom not the top.....
It can come from everywhere but you have to let it flourish
This is so good, thanks for putting up.
I love Richard Burton😭❤️
I can only add to that Janie my love.💖
Me too!
Saw him in Hamlet in NY and in Camelot befire and after Liz. I never could figure out who I loved more: Richard or O'Toole: two twinkling devils in Becket! Peace be with you.
before
Becket was a great movie! Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole were outstanding. It would be hard to choose between the two.
Great documentary of a great stage and screen actor. Nominated seven times for the Academy award but NEVER WON. I think that it was Hollywood's dislike of him.
It's really terrible that Richard Burton didn't win an Oscar. Sometimes the Oscars don't nominate actors or actresses on their acting abilities! Their personal lives are looked at. And sometimes other actors who never won are given an Oscar and their performance isn't that great! It's a shame!
Magnificent effort, so grateful and best wishes x
Wonderful portrait of the man. Thank you for the upload.
WHERE EAGLES DARE!!! He was Brilliant in that movie!
His wound in life was suddenly losing his Mother at the age of 2. Sad how he said he must have just cut all memory of her from his mind...he only thought he did.
He loved words. the elixir of evanescence. He courted the Nine Muses but succumbed to the Tenth. Melancholy. And the materia medica of all the anodynes, opiates, and nepenthe.
Anthony Hopkins came from the same small Welsh village. Local's nicknamed him 'litte richard'. He was determined to out do Burton by getting an Oscar and a Knighthood. He achieved both. However, for me, Richard Burton had that indefinable star quality that Hopkins lacks.
They are each incomparable… but Richard Burton was beyond special… the voice was untouchable.
Well done, well done indeed!!
my idol .....Thank you for uploading.
this is just too sad, unbearable to watch at the end, I think he is a wonderful person
I can"t believe that the acadamy did not give him an Ascar for best actor! He was naminated 7 times ,Shame on the acadamy,OMG what did they wanted him to do in orther to get one!???
He wasn't rich
The Oscars are all political. Don't pay any attention to who wins or who doesn't. Burton wasn't popular with the academy. I think there was a lot of jealousy. Not only was he a great actor, but he won the hand of Elizabeth Taylor. That alone was enough to make him the envy of every man. Richard's body of work speaks for itself.
Peter O'Toole was also nominated 7 or 8 times and got an honorary Oscar toward the end of his life, which he accepted so graciously and beautifully, you can find it on UA-cam.
academy, oscar, nominated,order.
He wasn't willing to kiss anybody's ass to win one
Welsh wizard and legend on and of the stage
He caught my eye in Alexander the Great cause I'm Greek obviously, but his voice got me hooked and then the rest is History. My Hero in Acting, Burton for me is the G.O.A.T.
The man led an amazing life. Alcoholism was his main downfall, obviously.
So talented and driven to fame&fortune. Incredible career and lifestyle.
A great Life nothing to be sad about great job Richard.
Very interesting programme. Just m it doesnt paint him and Elizabeth's marriage in a good light but I'm sure they loved each other deeply. Lauren Bacall comes off very bitter for some reason.
I agree!
this documnetary was created by sally hay who hated elizabeth
The Actor succeeded all too well.
The Stage became his reality.
Shakespeare, his tragedy
The Man, a star in the Heavens
Where Death hath no dominion.
The opening thoughts, Michael Caine said the same thing. He knew plenty of actors who, despite their talent etc., never got the big break - a few even committed suicide as a result of never 'making it'
If they ever do make a movie of his life, Fintan McKeown would be perfect to play the older Burton.
Well the main sentiment I came away from this documentary with is that Lauren Bacall left an unexpectedly bad taste in my mouth. She is a fine one to talk about knowing what friendships is, if indeed she ever called herself a friend of Burton's because a true friend would never speak in such a snide, demeaning and acid way about a friend who had passed; I very much doubt if her late husband would have thought this was well done of her.
Sinatra dumped her for the same reason.
Curious contempt
She was no good at all. A real viper.
Lucretia Seven. I had the exact same thought and wondered if she even knew him at all. Never heard a good word ablout her.
Lauren Bacall: American Thrash…. Her voice alone is disgusted, and she’s not a beauty….. what did America see in her……‼️‼️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️
Great documentary
'he wanted to get all his family out of the pit and he did' enough said , great actor, flawed but the real deal ,working class hero , great man.
I love Equus. He’s especially good at playing middle-class Britons, often conscientious professionals who are trapped, and ground down. But he also played laborers, while also most certainly being considered a king actor in the theatre..But drinking too much whisky for too many years did for him mentally and physically. Dark spirits, I wish someone had just eased him onto JB & Coke or something a bit easier on him (before he became diabetic, natch).
This documentary was commissioned by Sally Hay . She hated Elizabeth Taylor so much because she was so jealous of her..She knew that Richard Burton loved Elizabeth and she couldn't deal with it. If you love Richard Burton, I highly recommend reading his brothers' books: Graham Jenkins and David Jenkins.
seems 3/4 thru this it turns into a blame Elizabeth for Burton's issues kind of deal...and Melvin Bragg writer of The Burton Diaries is commentating - makes sense this was commissioned by Hay
Liz Taylor was every man’s downfall….. she married 7 times and destroyed everyone…. Didn’t she.?????
I agree completely! Other good books are Furious Love by Sam Kasher and Nancy Schoenberg, Richard & Elizabeth by Lester David and Jhan Robbins, The Richard Burton Diaries edited by Chris Williams. Most recent book The Grit & Glamour of an Icon, Elizabeth Taylor by Kate Andersen Brower! All great books! Elizabeth Taylor was the love of his life! They loved each other passionately. They were truly in 💕 love with one another!
Exactly, they were all jealous: the daughters the sisters who want them to slap Elizabeth etc it was a club trying to destroy the soul based love between Elizabeth and Richard
FABULOUS
I think he basically had problems with his insecurity (tho its hard to see) as a child he deeply felt unwanted (see his teenage diary) he only felt love for his abilities..so he became narcissistic but a compulsive giver....inside there was a very deep sense of abandonment ( by his mother who died , later by Cis -'take him, please take him- to Philip Burton. ) and the terrible guilt of abandoning Kate and Jessica never left him. But he must have his own way.... a complex dark wonderful man
I love what you said, especially about abandonment. In some interview he said that his childhood was "happy". I wonder if he really believed that? Where can I find his teenage diaries by the way? I´ve heard only about his later ones.
HE WAS GREAT!!
A wonderful documentary on the life of Richard Burton. The great Welsh actor and man like any other but not like any who lived life with all its absurdities and joys and sorrows and wildness and madness and doubts and fears and regrets and grand and ridiculous achievements that flow through us all in life. A portrait of a man who was all too human with suffered and enjoyed and strived and experienced everything that life throws at you like we must all endure. A poor player who struts and frets his hour on the stage.
I agree with you Lucretia about Lauren Bacall, not the done thing. However, we must remember that actors and actresses are spoilt children. Some are silly but charming children others are spoilt brats. I remember being strangely affected by deep sadness on hearing that Mr Burton had died. I then realised that as a lifetime film fan, he had been part of my life since I was a child.
Nice document
Funny anecdote about Winston Churchill.
"Lord Hamlet, may I use your lavatory?"

This is so telling and so sad. His beautiful voice loved by everyone but himself....
Family Roots Matter 🙏🌱🥀
Too talented, too young to go.
