I thought to myself, surely I am not the only person with this problem. I have all these fresh holes and a random, heavy thunderstorm dumps .7 inches of water.... My very old Craftsman Shopvac worked perfectly and super quick. Project back on track. Thanks
lol...that was great...2 days to figure is out...I would have never thought doing that. I was going to just get a cup and scoop it out but yeah this is alot faster. Thank you.
I ran into the same problem, there is a lot of sand in our soil so the holes started to collapes and fill the holes again. There is nothing more fun than trying to use a manual post hole digger in soupy soil. Counter productive! Once I sucked out the water within minutes it would fill with water again *sigh* life goes on, praying for dry weather to finally get these posts cemented in the ground.
Had to reschedule inspection due to heavy rain all that day. Went out the next day to wet vac holes but found about 6-inches of dirt had went back into the 42-in hole also and then the water kept seeping back in. Needless to say had to reschedule inspection again. Any tips for keeping the water from getting in the holes?
we have a spring near where we are going to put our corner post the holes filled with water when we dug them I think it's from the spring my husband said it will be fine he is going to add cement I am concerned if the horse leans against them they will start leaning any advice on this before he puts the post in?
I am so grateful for this video. It's exactly what I need for my french drains. Here's the problem though...what is a "shop vac" and where do I get it? What kind are you using? Is a shop vac the same as a wet/dry vacuum? Sorry, but I'm a single mom with NO CLUE. Thanks!
It actually was 3 feet. Some of the dirt caved in from the sides when the hole filled with water. I got over enthusiastic with the tractor mounted auger! I had the same problem with a tractor mounted tiller. I just tilled everything in sight.
If you don’t have a vacuum or power where your post is 100 ft hose in the hole, take hose down hill (could dig another hole if you can go far enough down hill). Boom. Syphon.
Just pour in dry concrete mix right out of the sack. The excess water will be displaced and the concrete mix gets properly hydrated as it goes to the bottom of the hole, ua-cam.com/video/pI-pCSxD0GY/v-deo.html
The award for worst building advice goes to this 5yo comment. Do you bake cakes by throwing a bag of flour in a bowl of water? Do you make porridge by throwing oats into an unknown quantity of water.
I tried using a pump for a pond to suck up the water but, when I pulled the hose out of the hole, the water went back into the hole. Then the hose tore because it's so old. I can't believe how many times I walked pass my shop vac trying to figure out how to get that water out of that hole. Gotta laugh! THANK YOU!
@@383yj Right, but at least you can stop, pull the plug and drain with having to un-clamp the top and pour it out. Who knows, maybe it wouldn't be that big of a time saver. :-)
your 2 days saved me days! appreciate it!
Glad I could help!
one of the best videos to ever hit youtube
I'll be doing this tomorrow. Such a simple solution, thanks! Wasn't sure how else I'd do this.
Awesome idea. I was researching sump pumps but this is WAY BETTER.

Glad it worked!

Removing the drain plug is a great idea! I wish you were there with me...
Worked out great! Thanks for the tip!
You're welcome!

Hi Amy, yes a wet/dry vac is correct. I bought mine at Home Depot. Thanks!
It just kind of struck me while I was out there digging holes. Thanks for the comments...
3 feet deep? Your 3 feet deep looks a lot different than my 3 feet deep. That looked more like my lazy 2 feet deep holes. 😂

Omg thank you

Anybody no what to do if you have water from under the ground that is coming back in the hole after emptying it
You’re below the water table…… that footing needs to go meters down into bedrock.

Took me 8 years to figure this out
Had to do this earlier today. Felt stupid now I dont lol
That’s OK. I felt stupid for a long time! Thanks for watching...
Slurp!

I fill it with dirt, then scoop it out as mud
Just remove the drain plug on the vacuum and keep on going...
I tried this before, but the vacuum relies on that being sealed to create...well a vacuum to pull the water up the hose.

Then it fills back up 5 min later cause u dumped it a foot away from the hole. Use a sump pump 🤪
I would have if I had one!
