- Another day, another miniature. In this installment, we craft the donut shop from the Dynamite music video in skewed proportions because I'm running out of space to put these.
This song ( • BTS (방탄소년단) 'Dynamite'... ) was just so fun, brought me much joy. Hope everyone enjoyed it as well and is looking forward to BE!
Also, when I said I didn't have my priorities straight in Halloween, that meant that I was working on this lol.

The commitment to detail here is so dang high! Big donut actually looks kinda delicious, I'd eat it.
Hahaha I can pretty much promise you that it will be one of the worst donuts you've ever had, but I'm glad it looks good enough. And thank you, I often wish I obsessed less over details, but I guess miniatures are the one place it can be a good thing!

Hello, from Japan. When I first watched this video, I was impressed by how much effort you put into this project! I’ve never made a miniature version:( I gave it a try and tried making my own donut shop. I’ve made the building but when I saw how much things were inside the store it blew me off. So tiny:( I can’t believe you completed it to the fullest!
The shop would still be really cool without making the inside! I totally understand, it adds a lot of time to the project haha. Don't know if you want to share what you did make, but if you do I would love to see it! Really glad you liked everything though, appreciate it so much~
Don't forget to open a window once a month... There's some neon signs going back to the 1940's here in San Francisco that are disappearing. Our Marquand News sign that curved around a corner with a great clock in the center, then up in Chinatown another (took lots of pics of these and more) of a shops (long gone) neon sign selling tv and records. The neon (in English and Chinese) hasn't worked in decades. I wanted to rebuild this Chinese neon sign using color transparent tubing for the neon. But I got involved in making a short noir film instead that took a year. At least for that, I animated another dead neon Chinatown sign using P.S. CS4. I think watching this will get my ass back in gear. I think. Even though I turned 70 last year, I'm a big fan of Japanese Pop, Towa Te, Cibo Mato, and more. I think Joanna Newsom's first album is still her best. But I grew up on soundtracks. Sharing this on the Steady Crafting Facebook page in a minute...
The attention to detail is something you do well. All those little bits would send most people crazy, but I always think that it helps to be a little mad in the first place. Great donut shop.
Who says it doesn't also drive me crazy? Haha the key is to keep going even if it does get maddening at some points, as long as you keep going, you get through it eventually!
Stop being so hard on yourself. Your projects always turn out wonderful and so detailed.

Tbh filming the process (even mediocre filming like I usually do) definitely makes the building take at least twice as long haha. But it's a lot of fun, so just really happy other people can enjoy as well. That's all seriously way too nice, appreciate it more than I can say, thank you!

Wow, this was great. I always loved the architecture of the 1900s, so your explanation at the beginning was really useful and demonstrated such a sense of passion and understanding. I’m totally blown away by all the work that went to the interior. It’s so crazy seeing someone put so much skill and effort into a model from a music video, like just seeing all of that culminate into something that lesser people would see as minute, but it means so much more to you. Bravo. Go you
Also, super glue works great for sticking plastic to cardboard
Ahhh well I think a lot of that comes from that I studied film production and want to work in the art department haha. Building these really allows me to learn a lot about set design, so it's sort of a way to continue my studies on a small scale. There are so many interesting periods of architecture and design that are great to learn from, so researching all of that is also really fun. Glad you enjoyed it as well~
See maybe I need to actually start using super glue more, I just am a mess and always get it on my hands so I try to use it as a last resort lol. Also don't usually have a lot of it around, but that might be a mistake on my part. Thank you so much for the tip!
“It’s a long process to mix paint”, yo for seriousness! I never felt more validated and understood in my life. Lol now I’m questioning if I really do procrastinate or if dealing with paint is just time consuming. Anyway, I don’t know anything about BTS but this was really cool to watch. The production and quality of your videos is incredible. I can’t believe you don’t have a larger audience. I’m glad I found your channel. Can’t wait to see what else you come up with.
And don't even get me started on trying to color match paint... oh god. Then you don't mix enough or too much and- seriously, if I just had every color premixed that I needed, painting would be so much faster! attaching plastic using glue can work better and easier if you sand the area where the glue goes (b4 glueing, obviously)

I can't remember if I did that on this project, but I have done that before indeed! Seems like super glue is the best way to attach plastic in most cases that I've seen thus far as well. Please don't fully ignore college hahaha, but glad to hear you can enjoy the videos, thank you~

wow ok i love this a lot! the architecture info was very cool! sometimes there's just so much bangtan info squished into my brain that it's so nice when i learn things i didn't know from other armys that help make a little sense of it all! and of course the final product is absolutely gorg and so beautifully detailed!!

Honestly, I don't really know how much the architectural inspiration matters haha, but it's super interesting! Periods of design have always been quite fascinating to me, so I like to include a little bit of it when I can. Question(s):
1. Where do you get all of your cardboard??
2. Where do you get your paint and paintbrushes from?
3. When making certain things out of cardboard, can I use the same cardboard for the whole *object* ?
1. Normal cardboard, I save pretty much any box that things come in when it's in good condition. If I run out, sometimes I go to stores and take it out of their recycling bins, if you ask they'll usually let you. For most of this project I used paperboard, which is used for a lot of food packaging, so I just steal all of the empty pizza boxes and cereal boxes especially because they're the biggest (cracker and cookie boxes too). Basically, I'm a trash goblin and when something comes around I save it since I know I'll need it later lol.
2. I literally use the cheapest, oldest paint and paintbrushes. Most of my paint is the tiny craft essentials paint from joann that is like 50 cents to buy haha. A lot of the paintbrushes are from a mixed pack from big lots or something I got maybe 7 years ago? They're pretty bad and super crusty now, but I just use what I have.
3. I'm so sorry, I don't totally know what you mean by this! Maybe you can give an example or something? Ahh so sorry!

Making miniatures specifically? Well I made one in high school and one in college, but didn't seriously start building them until I was making things for youtube about 3 or 4 years ago now I think!

I'm new to your chanel and thought, donut shop, ok, nice. But mini tape strips for tiny window posters? You must have the patience of a buddhist monk. It's impressive and maybe motivates me to go deeper into details with further projects of mine. cool.

Ah! I need to mention how I liked that you use variety of materials. It's very refreshing after seeing lots of videos with people focused on (almost) one thing such as foam, clay or printed paper. I think minis look and feel more realistic when they're made out of different materials thus I appreciate your efforts 😊
Ahh that's so cool! Totally understand that, actual full-sized architecture and items are built with a variety of materials, so that does kinda apply in miniature too haha. Although, I will admit I am a little partial to using way too much cardboard just because it's so readily available. Of course! All windows I do are made from clear plastic packaging- most of the time from food. So for example, you might get cookies or something in a clear plastic container- it's cut from that!

It is not! This was a built set on a soundstage, but I am like 99% sure that the design was based on that haha, it's super similar.

Thank you so much! Ok so there is a big difference between copyright claiming and copyright striking. So yes videos using BTS songs are always copyright claimed, which means that they cannot be monetized. However, they do not give you a copyright strike, so it has no effect on your channel- you can still post videos with them with absolutely no problem! My friend, it is ok to listen to both Slayer and BTS if you want. Hahaha that's really the best thing to hear though, it makes me so happy when people can enjoy the videos regardless of the content. The sets in the music videos are just too fun to make!

This song is in English, but tbh a lot of their music has a combination of Korean and a little bit of English. Either way, it doesn't always matter, I've loved songs by rock bands that are in English where I truly have no clue what they're saying lol!
