I want to teach, but not out of some naive idealism- I want to do it because I'm good with kids, and have an ability to communicate with them. I'm someone who see that they are in dire need of people who care, and I think I can lend a hand.
I feel the same way, I don't want kids, but I feel like I have values to teach.

How do people like these videos? They depress the hell out of me.
My Dad tells me to get a job as an elementary teacher because it's apparently easy and I get a lot of vacation.
He must not get any of the local news channels that state that teachers are being laid off moreso now than ever before and it would be a huge waste of money to go to college for a teaching job, even if it was what I really want in my life.
you gotta have alot of patient and character to be a teacher there are teachers that students walk all over them and are not tough enough. my english teacher could shut up the entire class by just staring at them

I know someone who went through all the hassle of becoming a teacher, and last I heard he was having trouble finding a full time position and he's stuck with a ridiculous amount of student loan debt. There are so many professions that are getting like this. It will soon get to the point where no one will want to pursue anything.
Being a teacher is no walk in park firget about the actual teaching for a moment it is imporant but you really have to look at if step by step if you want to understand it. First imgaine 20-30 kids in one room about the size of living room plus desk for each child. First thing you must do is get every child to sit. Then you must get everyone quiet. Then you must teach a cricculum based lesson which half aren't intrested in. Half of those paying attetion wont understand it.

They forgot the part about having to deal with parents who barely made it through high school yet think they know more about education than teachers who have M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.
Where's the, "I want to work in a powerful union?"
Then parents complain because their child isn't doing well. It can be rewarding when a struggleing child gets it. However also very challengeing for every child who dose their are 5 who don't. I understand why so many teachers enjoy doing these in their very limited free time.
The reason you see Education as always being at the top of the list when it comes to hiring is because there are always tons leaving the profession. You would think twice before running into a building where everyone is running out of, and you should do the same with education. You will work as hard as a doctor but get paid more like a manger at Burger King. Know that you will be working with TON's of stress, and an up hill battle for tiny pay, and if this is OK with you then do it.
That is high school. The character in the video wants to be a elementary school teacher. In elementary the homeroom teacher of a class usually teach multiple subjects.
Most of my ..lesser academic friends are early childhood or elementary school teachers. Or they dropped out of uni after a year or two and ended up doing teaching. Meh,
I wouldn't want to try teaching in public schools its just scary thought. I taught in vbs and sunday school and that wasn't near as fun as I thought. I also worked as summer camp counslor it dosen't take genius if you put rowdy summer school kids into class room for 8 hours minus lunch break the results aren't pretty. I feel bad for all teachers teaching in a public school and more so for the ones working with the ones with behavioral problems

Wonder video! So much, so true, and this one is pretty sugar coated. I guess I am one of those ugly veteran teachers, the inefficient ones because we have more than 10 years of experience, at least that is what our state says, therefore, "old, ineffective teachers" have to prove their efficiency through more stringent evaluations. I would never recommend that anyone become a teacher, not because of the actual job, but everything that goes with it.

i find it funny how everyone overseas complains how teachers are underpaid. In australia teachers starting salary is $60 000. With yearly increments to almost "$90 000". a.k.a, awesome pay, awesome holidays and good lifestyle. if u wanna be a teacher, Australia is the place to be :)

@21centuryg Im not saying we are in it for the pay, but if other countries gave better pay, people would want to be teachers more, making the field more competitive. with a more competitive field you get better teachers, and therfore better students. its all about the kids i agree, but money makes the world go round,

Bullshit.
Most teachers only have a bachelor's degree in education or a graduate diploma.
Why the fuck would someone go as far as getting a master's or Ph.D just to be a school teacher??
M.A or PhD in Education are usually owned by school principals (and that even depends on the prestige of the school as well), or people who are in higher education such as university or involved in specialised teaching such as Gifted and Talented education.

Teaching is great...if you are CREATIVE...and can work with all types of kids in all types of situations...it's all possible....the good, the bad...but mostly it's good....this cartoon is bogus....
