    This time you forgot the other rule which was time management while trying to figure out each move. Chess is hard man.

      Yeah, I also felt like he was a little pre-occupied with castling when he had his opponent on the back foot.
      Yes, castling is good, but sometimes you gotta press home the advantage and momentum when you get it.
      This was a tough game, though. A lot of calculations needed to be made and the clock was ticking. Hopefully he can win the next one.

      @@al87221 I play the French and you do NOT want to move your pawn to c4 your main point of attack is whites d4 pawn, plus the White square bishop is blacks problem piece in the advanced French getting it off the board or outside the pawn chain before playing d6 locking it in means you would have a superior version of the advanced.. Chasing his bishop at the bishop at the beginning was not developing your pieces. You extended your pawns and removed your own ability to develop and fight for the center.
    This gave your opponent easy development and plans and you lost time trying to be creative with your worse position.
    Gg, see you tomorrow

    • @danielward7008

      @@kylerberry Indeed. He only succeeded in chasing the bishop to the diagonal it wanted to be on anyway.

  • @chad1755

    Trying to find tactics in every position is a huge time burn. Only start calculating tactics when there are indicators on the board -- things like a Queen in the line of fire behind a pinned piece, or the possibility of a discovery attack, or a forking square that's weakly protected. Only when you see the clues should you spend time calculating it out.
    Also, tactics present themselves when you pressure your opponent. You pressure your opponent by playing strong positional chess. You play strong positional chess by developing your pieces and placing them on active squares so you can control the board. Following your opening's principles/theory is what helps you do that.
    Not going off book to chase a bishop around the board, lol.

      Yes! Get your pieces, including your rooks, on squares where they belong. So don't put off castling to calculate possible tactics when your opponent is solid. Castle and then you'll improve your chances of finding a tactic.

    This is good! I'm glad you're finally thinking about your opponent's next move. It's just a matter of doing it faster (and please don't wait until the middle game to start, you can literally do this on every-single-move, even in the opening. It's just that it goes MUCH faster in the opening because you already know your opponent's next potential moves). The first time we do something, it's slow but as you continue thinking about your opponent's next moves, it will get faster. I think it would be ideal to combine ALL the baseline rules you have at the moment including the development ones: This would have saved you a lot of time in the opening as you spent precious minutes deciding if you should develop the bishops. Keep up the progress, this is good.

      He is never going to get anywhere near 2000 doing what he's doing now. He was overrated at his peak rating of 1550. You cannot burn nine minutes in the opening in a 10/5 game, post a 69 accuracy rating, and hope to reach 2000. You have to know your opening repertoire and the ideas associated with it much better, so that you play more confidently and faster. And you have to churn out 80+ accuracy, ideally 85+ accuracy, game after game.

    • @chad1755
      @chad1755 День тому

      2000 is never coming. 1400 elo is only when chess STARTS to get hard. There is a massive chasm between 1400 elo chess and 1600 elo chess. And the space between 1600 and 2000 elo is absolutely staggering. Patrick's ceiling is miles below 2000.

    I think you need to count OUT LOUD while calculating, "up 1 point, back to even, up 3 points, back to even, ... ect." You are going into lines that you calculated, and then realizing after the tension resolves that you lost material.

  • @DDZGRH
    @DDZGRH День тому +8

    This is going nowhere. You are talking about principles but then breaking one after another. If you are getting closer to time trouble, just make the obvious simple principle moves, i.e. improving pieces, getting all the pieces into action, connecting rooks, getting rooks to an open file....and so on. This way, you will not overthink every single move while you are 5 minutes behind your opponent....

    • @chad1755
      @chad1755 День тому

      10+10 is a very uncommon time control, so there are very few players in that pool and he gets matched with a lot wider of a range. If he played something more common he'd face players closer to his rating.

      @@chad1755 Looks more like 10+5 to me, and it still doesn't explain why his opponents are mostly higher rated. I don't remember him playing someone 100 points lower rated. The moves you should have calculated, you didn't. You need to be calculating and planning your response when they're in the clock. You don't seem to be doing anything other than planning your moves or waiting for them to move. Their time is also your time. Missed a lot of tactics and gave away a winning position several times because you snap took.
    You lost several minutes again in a fairly common opening you should know. Study your openings more!
