Ok Gaten describing his ideal Dustin death actually gave me chills, the trope of comic relief character dying right when everyone thinks they're safe gets me every time
I always thought Gatens character would die from his mouth constantly getting bigger and bigger and more deformed as the time went on. Turning into a monster himself.
The contrast of stories here from someone so young is awesome Most guests: "When i was in Venezuela i found this place that makes this" Gaten: "When i was in 2nd grade my life was made whole by this tuna sandwich"
For real. Diversity is such a great driving force for media. Giving a wider spread of people to relate to and spreading awareness if it's about a medical condition.
I think this episode came at the best time for me. Today on October 3rd, my big brother passed away 14 years ago. Him speaking on his cousin passing really stuck a cord with me, especially when he said “it’s like a missing puzzle piece” and being older than his cousin. I’m 26 and my brother passed when he was 21, I tend to feel guilty about being older than him now, so it feels nice seeing someone else talk about death in the way that Gaten does. Someone who understands. I love it. God bless Gaten and his future endeavors.
Keep it up, stranger. It's a better world with good people around. Or even mid-people. Or even >mid people. I'm sure your brother would agree, no matter how much you stress, he'd be glad you're around.
It's crazy, I'm 25 and I feel like a 70 year old man. And this guy is 22 and he has so much energy and zest for life. I'm inspired, I'm going to start enjoying life more :)
I KNOW I wasn't. Probably still am not. He really knows himself and speaks so well. I'm incredibly impressed with him after this and can't wait to see his career progress. He's a versatile actor
My man, I was NOT expecting “the hemmies” 😂 I also didn’t expect what an amazing interview this was, they had such good chemistry together and I loved listening to his stories. Very wholesome and relatable ❤ the time outs were fun and loved the variations on Mac n cheese lol
37:03 gaten's answer is so soothing and comforting.. he just soothed like 2 years of anxiety regarding this topic, he is so so wise and articulates himself so well... what i'd do to have one convo w him
I hope the new time rules and the lightning round passes become a part of the show like the last dab is for hot ones. I love how both of these shows have been evolving because of their genuine interactions with the guests instead of horseshoeing in nonsense like network tv does
This was so good. Many literal laughs out loud, but also awe at the wisdom this young man has 😮 Then out of nowhere I suddenly found myself in tears at Gaten's description of his aunt's hugs 🥹😭 Also, congrats to the members of the Mythical Kitchen team who prepared this entire meal with what sounds like basically no actual guidance from your guest beyond the names of things for some very specific dishes 😅 Impressive work! I hope your stress has now fully faded 🫠😆
I got literal tears at the hugs, too! And when he brought up his cousin Joey. My cousin Joey died at around 19 in a motorbike accident almost 30 years ago. He was my absolute favorite cousin. RIP Joey x2 💞
Gaten talking about his aunts hug almost made me tear up there I love this guy. He's really chill and so positive and funny while also being so well spoken despite being 22, which most people might think is really young. This episode might be my favorite of all of them. The overall vibe is just so wholesome, thank you so much :3
He’s such a JOY! Such a big hearted, goofy, adorable sweetheart! What a great interview! It’s cool how he loves his Mom, Grandma and family so much too! Aww! 💖💖💖💖
Gaten always come off as such a great guy whenever I watch interviews with him. As much as I love him as Dustin on Stranger Things, I really hope he gets to expand his career past that role in the future. He clearly understands what it takes to be a good actor and has the passion for it.
What a smart, self-aware, funny guy. Yet another example of how really knowing yourself and liking yourself is one of the greatest strengths a person can possess.
“You live with him every day in the back of your mind or in the forefront of your mind or wherever he needs to be for you that day” was such a beautiful way to describe how the death of someone stays with you.
I have absolutely loved and adored (almost) all of the guests they've had on Last Meals, but I have to say that this one might be the best so far. The answers Gaten gave for this episode were incredibly well thought out, wholesome, and so damn relatable. What a wonderful human.
I remember in 8th grade when stranger things first came out and I ran a fan page (SUPER SMALL FOLLOWING, mostly just my friends who followed lol) and Gaten noticed and commented multiple times. He seems like such a sweetheart. Dustin will always be my fav character
i had the luxury of meeting Gaten in wildwood NJ just before season 2 of stranger things came out. He was such a kind kid and seemed more happy to take photos with us than we were lol. Awesome dude.

This kid is a old soul. Super likeable, super wise for his age. I hope you do well in life Gaten! Your on the right path, dont let hollywood get the best of you.
I would love to see them have alton brown the guy started the cooking show good eats i feel like him and josh would be a vibe beyond comparison due to all the food trivia they both know
Holy crap... I never imagined anyone knew about the Cheeseburger song from Vegitales HAHAHA. I can sing that sucker start to finish without looking at the lyrics lol. Gaten you are now my favorite person in the world!!
Gaten's description of his Aunt's hugs,is exactly how my deceased son used to 🫂 hug. You get it 😭I miss my sons hugs. He died at 24 ,7 years ago 💔 thank you for appreciating the 🫂. You get it 🫶you made me cry. Wishing you all the best in your future ❤
Gaten seems like one of those people in Hollywood that I would genuinely want to be friends with because he just seems like a great person and also being a nerd is a huge plus hahaha
Gaten is such a kind and humble person. I've met him twice, once right after season 2 of ST dropped and again last year when he was in Sweeney Todd, and both times he's been just the sweetest person. His family is incredibly kind too, his mom is from the area I grew up in. He really is just a very simple, down to earth, grounded person. I adore him so much
Gaten just exudes a warm, welcoming, and joyous personality. It really shows in his characters on screen too! This just confirms his coolness since he was a kid on Stranger Things!
I am so stoked to see Gaten on this show! He's my favorite actor in Stranger Things and man, does he deliver in this interview. He's so smart and funny
Brilliant idea! I cant count the times ive noticed the interview get in the way of enjoying food. Calling time needs to become a per episode thing, if not per meal.
Gaten's experience with someone telling him his different abilities meant he shouldn't be an actor is truly heartbreaking): I am so happy we are able to experience his talent and he didn't let that opinion discourage him!
Gaten is so sweet and adorable and an awesome actor. Josh is also sweet and adorable and an incredible interviewer so this Last Meal ep has been such a joy to get to see!! Thank you guys for making it! 😊
I LOVE when someone else knows about kid nation!!! Side note Jeff probst has spoken extensively on wanting to do a survivor jr and they have decided it’s not a good call lmao
He is such an intelligent and emotionally intelligent person. I'm glad he has such supportive and protective parents, being in the industry he's in and from such a young age. He's also wildly talented and I can't wait to see where his career goes.
the way josh can have chemistry and banter with anyone is the best part of these interviews. he makes the whole process so cosy and natural, it's what makes this show so easy to love on top of the incredible cooking and interesting guests. ❤
They need to call time for every episode, it’s always been some kinda pet peeve that the chefs worked so hard for such perfect food for them to barely eat it. Huge thanks to steevo who ate A LOT!
Gaten has always seemed so mature - it's refreshing to see a child actor not get sucked into all the negative parts of Hollywood and come out as a thoughtful, mature young adult.
I feel like im watching a master of their craft for over 40 years just expound upon their journey. Only 22 is crazy for how well spoken and aware he is.
Gaten is a real one... especially putting cream cheese on a fruit loaf. Pumpkin, banana, or zucchini even get that treatment if the CC is in the fridge.
I know I'm commenting on this 2 months after it came out but I find myself in tears at the @36:00 minute of this video. Gaten describing his experience with religion and anxiety and it's so very similar to my own. Great not knowing I was the only one to feel such a way. Thanks for this video and interview Josh.
This is by far and away my favorite episode of last meals. What a genuine good guy, seems to have a great head on his shoulders and loves what he’s doing ❤️
Mythical's target audience is all over the world. So I guess it is a compromise to put the videos out in early morning for you folk in the west coast of USA. For us in eastern Europe it is early afternoon, and for australians it is late evening.
Please Josh continue to do these until you go, it never fails to amaze me how incredible these people and how enjoyable these interviews are. THANK YOU!

This genuinely made me giggle so much and it was a very nice addition to the interview, I really hope it catches on.❤
Yes the time outs were brilliant
It was a nice add on indeed
I laughed way toooooooo hard at this little seg! 😂😂
I love how simple the meals are compared to all of the previous guests
His taste buds have not evolved from a childs tastebuds ... How sad😢

Don't forget post melon lol
Probably because he is still a kid and hasn't explored that much yet
He's 22. I think he simply likes his family lol
Ok Gaten describing his ideal Dustin death actually gave me chills, the trope of comic relief character dying right when everyone thinks they're safe gets me every time
and then straight into an erotic fanfiction adaptation. what a duo.
It's almost the exact same (spoilers if you havent watched Maze Runner)
as chucks death scene in the first film. Pretty much described to a tee
I always thought Gatens character would die from his mouth constantly getting bigger and bigger and more deformed as the time went on. Turning into a monster himself.
But it's gonna happen to Steve
Ah yes, the Wash treatment from Serenity. “I’m a leaf in the wind”
Man, this kid (now adult but still so young) seems so well adjusted, emotionally mature, and well spoken. Props.
thats what happens when you've been media trained for 15+ years
I’ve met him several times and he really is the most kind and genuine person all around!!
It’s funny you say this because of all the serial killer jokes at the start. Because of his insane first course.
@@laoruska8003 its also what happens when your parents care about you and your future
Little Gatten having egg salad and it being the best day of his life is very dustin coded
Its so funny that Gaten's last meal is 100% what I would expect Dustin from the show to get. Way to accurate.
too*
He has been playing Dustin for awhile it's possible the lines have blurred
The whole reason they asked him to play was because some people just fit the character so well that they are them. His whole personality 😅is Dustin
😂😂😂😂
FACTS - I think Dustin is playing Gaten.
“how much you love is how hard you grieve” - thank you, josh 👏👏👏
The contrast of stories here from someone so young is awesome

The egg salad choice was less serial killer vibes than Joseph Gordon Levitt's all cereal menu.
My brain is absolutely refusing to accept that the kids from Stranger Things are adults now
I woke up to pics of Millie's wedding, and now this. People get old 🥲
