    Nice review, TechnologyMafia. I just bought the normal Commlite EF to E adapter and the Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 lens not too long ago and I'm pretty impressed with the autofocus capabilities on my a6300. Phase detection works out great besides video AF just like how you experienced. So far for less than $100, it was worth it for both. I like how almost any lens can adapt to Sony's e-mount with an adapter. I'm thinking about trying an 70-300mm lens for telephoto reach pretty soon!

    C/P button is your Contrast and Phase AF detection. You gotta detach the adapter from the camera to change from contrast to phase and vice versa.

    I dropped a 18-135 kit lens once and I had the same problem as you had. There was a noise when you shake and the zoom ring did not extend the whole range.
    I had given up on it but as a last ditch I just forced the zoom out to the point where it should have been and after some brute force it just snapped in place.
    Maybe you can give that a shot.

    I was planning to use this adapter and thank you for this video, I have a6000 and if I purchased it, It was a waste of money. I found a Sony Zeiss 16-70 f/4 perfect condition for only $300 and grabbed it. I have used 18-105 before and this piece is far more better than 18-105. Now I covered a very good range and I tried it with Meike AF macro extension tubes and get 1:1 macro with Zeiss optics quality. I was planning to buy Canon EF 100mm macro with this adapter which will cost me more than $500. I believe Zeiss with ext. tube is a better solution.

    I have the Fotodiox version of this adapter. I must admit, that on my A6000, the AF performance with Canon lenses wasn't great. However, when I sold my A6000 & moved to the A7ii, all of the lenses that didn't focus well on the A6000 performed flawlessly on the A7ii.

    C/P is the way AF works (contrast or phase detection). One way you could use AF-c, however, I heard it doesn't work so well and it wobbles too much. Thanks for the great review.

    Thanks for your videos Arthur. I started using Sony this year, after watching most of your camera and lens reviews. I use a Fotodiox FD-nex adapter with a Canon 50mm 1.8 manual (vintage?) lens. I absolutely love it!! I find myself using this combo more than my sel1650! And it looks cool too :) I have the a5000 and a6300. Greetings from South Africa!

    So for $20 would I be able to use it in single focus or manual focus or even switch from auto to manual in video mode if I already have a canon 18-55? I’m asking because my only other expensive option for wide angle is to buy a Sony kit lens or sigma 16mm. I want a sigma but I also need to wait a wedding or two before I can afford one... vs buying this for $20

    From my point of view for APS-C format the most interesting Canon EF-S zoom budget lenses adequately priced are:
    - Canon 10-18mm f/4,5-5,6 IS STM
    - Canon EF-S 55-250mm F/4-5.6 IS STM
    - Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2,8 IS USM ( not so cheap )
    Here is my opinion:
    1) Standard zoom lens started from 18mm is too narrow on APS-C. The best option should be zoom 16-50(70) and personally I like my Sigma 17-50/2.8 with MC-11 adapter.
    2) As for EF-S lens almost all adapters I saw had an issue with AF on the long end.
    For example: 55-250mm STM AF doesn't work on the long end ( Fotodiox SNY (E) Fusion Smart Af). With previous generation of Commlite adapter it is nonfunctional.
    3) I came to conclusion that EF-S lens support is not a top priority for adapter manufactures and as result gave up any attempts to find something usable.
    Left old Commlite for my Canon 24mm/2.8 stm and MC-11 for Sigma 17-50.
    4) I believe that in nearest future we will see a lot of new AF lenses constructed specially for natural e-mount support. Hope some of them will be for APS-C format.
    That's it.

    • @YevgenSh
      @YevgenSh 6 років тому

      I returned my canon 55-250 stm back to the seller as AF worked just awfully. I think the original SEL 55-210mm f/4,5-6,3 is a better option instead.

    • @DashFlicks
      @DashFlicks 6 років тому

      I think you did the right thing. I'll probably do the same and save 50 on that premature converter, and save some space in my pocket for Pentax-M manual primes or sony pancake that I already have and put my heavy canon artillery on the backburner for the beach days etc when the viewfinder is a must. I can leave the bag at home that way and put the rest of my stuff in my fishing vest.

    I have an older model of the Commlite EF to E adapter for my A6000, and like you said, it won't work since the A6000 only has contrast detection. In my case, it focuses, but it's always a bit behind the focus point, so I use it for controlling the aperture only.

    Hello chat, I have one important question!
    I want to buy a second hand Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD. The reason is, of course, because it is cheap.
    I will mount it on a Sony A7RII with the CM-EF-E HS adapter that I already have. These lenses are NOT in the list of the supported lenses for this adapter.
    I DON'T need a very good autofocus in fact the aperture is the only thing that must work correctly.
    Will this work? Has anyone tested the adapter with this particular lenses?
    Thank you in advance!

    • @davidteer80

      So just stay with the far cheaper a6000 if video is not essential, and use Sigma 15mm, Sony 35 1.8 and 50 1.8.Good kit unless you want tele.

    • @YT-NPC

      Robert Cudlipp I have no special use for it... I will probably go for the a6000 + selp18105g, and a samyang 12mm 2.0, and maybe later a ~30mm prime lens. Because I just want a affordable versatile-multi use setup, without switching lenses all the time and carrying around a big DSLR sized bag...
      Sure the extra image stabilization & audio options of the 6300/6500 would be nice, but they are just out budget... I am no professional, just a young 0815 student, so I don't want to spend unlimited money, as it isn't worth it for me

    • @YT-NPC
      @YT-NPC 6 років тому

      Robert Cudlipp the reason for my comment is just, that Sony E is fucking expensive, when it goes to lenses... If there would be a good and "cheap" AF adapter, other branded lenses would be even more interesting... (As 3rd and 4th lenses)

    Informative video. You can pick up Canon glass for quite cheap so I'd be intrigued to see you do more of these videos with different lenses.
    Just an idea in case you want some ideas on what videos to upload.

    Hey there, which do you think I should go for with my a6000, the commlite or the mc11? For use with Canon lenses...

    • @slr7075
      @slr7075 6 років тому

      Sigma MC-11 can only work with full frame Canon lenses. If you also want to use crop EF-S lenses then the Commlite can do both.

    You have so many pretty cheap Canon lenses that would not suck in both performance and AF for example 50mm F1.8... AND YOU ARE TRYING ADAPTER ON KIT LENS?!

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  6 років тому +8

      The kit lens is listed as a compatible lens, so I was more curious as to how well it would AF especially in video mode.

      The cheap plastic Canon 50mm 1.8 is a good lens but not runs well with the Commlite adapter. I have the Canon 50 and the Commlite.

    • @BitWolf
      @BitWolf 6 років тому +1

      Yes but that is the new Commlite Adapter. I had an older version too and I paired it with Tamron 17-50 F2.8 and Sigma 18-35 F1.8. The AF just didn't work at any circumstances. But EXIF and stabilization worked perfectly.

    All lens adapters will work decently only on photos and with static objects. Great for product photography, portraits, macro and astrophoto, forget using it for sports. For video AF is almost useless even the expensive Metabones adapters.

    Your videos are really helpful for me as a newbie to Sony cameras. I have a Sony a6000 and was wondering if you could do a video on the best lense for vlogging? I have seen a lot of your lense videos that show them being used in a photo or large video setting but it would be really useful to see what you would recommend as the best lense for a vlogging setup! Thanks anyway for your brilliant videos!

      Caleb Shaw kit lens or SEL1018. Both have OSS and good auto focus. Sigma 16mm f1.4 also nice with gimbal. I use SEL1018.

      He has made previous Video on this subject. Look at his review of the Sigma 16mm 1.4.. its pretty much the best lens for Sony, and best Vlog lens almost every Sony Vlogger is using the Sigma 16mm 1.4... Lense does have slight motor noise that will be picked up if you use a Rode mic Macro..

    Hello. I am your regular subscriber and I really like your quality reviews! Please write a review of the sigma 50-100 f 1.8 objective for canon, through the mc-11 sigma adapter, on the a6000 sony camera. I will be very grateful to you and not just me. If all the channel viewers agree with me, keep my comment like that, then the review can appear faster.

    Hi, since A6500 uses a Hybrid Phase/Contrast Detection Autofocus (Phase for fast focus and contrast for correct focus or so i've read...*) Is it possible that this kind of hybrid is messing with the exclusive duality C/P (OR Phase Or Contrast) focus modes from the Commlite? You've tried Autofocus with Contrast Detection selected on the Commlite? Thanks!

    Why would you ever do that to yourself, the focus doesn't work and the lens is bigger than your camera, total waste of money, not to mention the adapter costs 150$

    ACHTUNG!!! Der Adapter schrottet Objektive! Habe mein bis jetzt gehegtes und gepflegtes 10-18mm Canon Objektiv durch den Commlite Adapter geschrottet.
    Am ersten Tag lief alles, ich konnte den Fokus einstellen, die Blende im Modus M auch regeln. Doch am 2. Tag ging das Verstellen des Modus F nicht mehr. Danach hat der Fokus den Geist aufgegeben. Ich arbeite mit einer Sony alpha 6300.
    Ich werde wenn ich wieder in Deutschland bin das Objektiv an meiner EOS 760D testen, an der es bislang reibungslos lief.
    Danach schaue ich ob es mit einem Firmware Update oder dem Zurücksetzen der Werkeinstellungen vielleicht funktioniert.
    Ich kann hier nur eine eindeutige Warnung aussprechen.
    UPDATE:
    Wieder zu Hause, an der Canon das Objektiv installiert, und siehe da, es ist endgültig kaputt. Autofokus und Blende lassen sich nicht mehr bedienen.
