Barons Court is a great station for various reasons: 1) Only stn on LT with those wide blue station signs over the benches. 2) Best place westbound to transfer from District to Piccadilly. (Can't tell you how many people look at the map and lug all their bags up the steps at Earls Court.) 3) Lovely walk to the Queens Tennis club. The tournament is the warm up for Wimbledon.
I have been to earls court as it was my hotel station and tbh if you use a LU tube map online it’s kinda easy to clarify which train is on which platform
I really like the clicks and hisses of the Piccadilly line trains, it really blows my mind that they are being replaced before the Bakerloo trains that have spent years taking a battering on the mainline section.
The Piccadilly line is 46 miles long, the Bakerloo just 14. The Piccadilly line is also more frequent, both of these factors meaning the sets pick up way more miles, meaning they require more maintenance. The Piccadilly line also has much higher passenger numbers. This is why the 73 stock is being replaced first.
Because all of the old trains the C, D, 1972 and 73 trains are all made by Metro Cammel. The modern ones are made by Alstom, British Rail Ltd and Bombardier
Your videos are awesome, thank you a lot. I love trains and massive transport, too bad there's only one metro system in my country... greetings from Colombia!!
nice video and the 1973 stock is 9 years younger in Design than a R32 C,J, & Z trains but 11 years younger in service than R32 or 5 years later than a R42 J train regarding the D78 stock MTA subway equivalents are R62 R62A R68 & R68A since these trains entered service between 1980 and 1989 alongside the D stock which entered service on the Underground from 1981-1984
Please visit Barcelona! The new L9nord it's amazing ,and other sistems a part from metro lines,FGC ,the train that run to Montserrat also it's cool.I live in Barcelona and my pont of view is that system network is modern and practical
Amazing video. I plan to stay somewhere near these 2 lines, and I think this video will help me make the most of my trip in London (along with visiting the landmarks lol).
It's such a shame that the D stocks got withdrawn. You used to get a huge variety of stock on the Sub surface lines. Now it's just bland and boring. All they use is stupid S stock trains. Hardly any of the A, C or 1967 stock got saved. They all went to the dreaded Rotherham scrapyard instead. At least the deep level lines have a variety but soon it'll all be replaced by those awful NTFL. Why do national rail companies have a massive Fetish on standardizing the railways. Soon the so called "aventra" trains will replace everything so it not worth trains potting anymore because all you'll get is Damn aventras. A shame really.
dennis trident william true, but they’re ignoring public demand. They might have more space yet morale is lost, you don’t get the same feeling anymore.
sirbinary I disagree. I think the S stock has far more character than both C and D stock. There’s something very fascinating about standing on an old-style platform at Baker Street and suddenly seeing a modern train coming through.
They standardise because it's cheaper, there isn't any reason to have multiple different types of trains running on the same tracks. They cater for the travelling public, not enthusiasts
That section of the Piccadilly Line is express so none of them stop at Chiswick Park, Stamford Brook or Ravenscourt Park. During late morning, all afternoon and early evening Piccadilly Line trains also skip Turnham Green.
Greetings from a US rail fan. What happened at 00:53? I wanted to believe that this would be a "timed transfer" between lines, but the train on the left shut its doors and pulled away. Do timed transfers occur on the Underground?
+David Thaler Trains run every 2-5 minutes, so there is no need for a timed transfer. In fact, if the Piccadilly line train would have waited, it would have probably delayed the trains behind it.
I think they've got fast enough frequencies that there'll be another train along in a minute or two anyway. Waiting would only mean that delays are more likely to snowball from one line to another.
+Liam Doyle depends where you are, most of the major stations have trains every 30 seconds. That is, all city stations and Strathfield, other than that, there are trains every 7.5 minutes on a lot of lines. Also another thing, Sydney doesn't need trains every 2 minutes to everywhere, because there aren't as many people compared to London. (9 or something million, compared to 4.5 million. That is half)
+Liam Doyle yes, Sydney is more spread out, which in my opinion, is why a Metro system does not work here, the distances are too far, and the one they are building already goes out of the zone that most cities have them confined to.
Yep :), automatic train operation always makes a excellent increse of the trains power and speed, allowing faster acceleration to higher speeds, braking later and entering stations at higher speeds and still accurately and safely parking at the station :)
@@acnhsasha3085 the A stock is nasty. Their bogies burst into fire flames instantly when they are running so fast over cross junctions. And the spark alot too

Not to mention the picadilly is the airport line so it is what people coming into London might see first.

Nice video. I didn’t know the London underground has express services.
Thanks....! I love it
The old District and current Piccadilly line stock sound so similar

+Grant Adams My pleasure, glad you like it. Watch out for the second part. :-)
+Grant Adams cant wait :)
+Luftschlange great video enjoyed it
+Sam Rogers Thanks, glad you liked it!
Sometimes at Ravenscourt Park (both directions) and Stamford Brook (westbound only), Piccadilly line trains change drivers.
Wonderful informative video.
D stocks running along with them 1973 stocks...
No it's actually Between South Kensington and Ealing Common (because two lines shares 1 double rail)
the 1973 stock wasnt very nice to the D78 stock.
I still miss the D78 stock.
But good news d stock was converted to d train
I've known that for years but thanks anyways.

Will there be anymore NYC videos? LOVE those.
+Plane_Flyer Yes, there will be :-)
+Luftschlange Great! Your channel is awesome and deserves more subscribers like DJ hammers if you know him. Thanks for putting up great videos! :)

NiffIncentro At6/5 Because it’s cheaper and more economical to have the same type of train ...?

Yeah London Was best in 1990 because there was lovely d stock and the fucking s stock makes me vomit.
I though it was South Ken to Ealing Common
Why doesn’t the Piccadilly line stop at Chiswick Park, Turnham Green full time, Stamford Brook and Ravenscourt Park?
That section of the Piccadilly Line is express so none of them stop at Chiswick Park, Stamford Brook or Ravenscourt Park. During late morning, all afternoon and early evening Piccadilly Line trains also skip Turnham Green.
You didn't even mention the connector blob clocks at Hammersmith.
Piccadilly lines are slow to be honest in the tunnel the stations are a little close
Why don't they put some sort of a fence on the unused platform egde (probably some sort of an easily removable one)?
If the District has an issue that platform edge suddenly becomes quite handy.

To be honest, I can only see timed transfers for any potential night service.
Will you be considering a visit to Hong Kong anytime soon?
+Andison Iu I’d love to but I have no immediate plans.
not 2025, 2018
2:29 Why is there a cab in the middle of the train?
louis stuyck I don’t know, they do that on the Bakerloo too
Only 18 metre long carriages? In Sydney all trains are 8 cars, and the longest cars are 24 metres long, and the shortest being 20 metres...
Also all the trains are double decker, and the largest train can fit 972 passengers seated, without any standing up!
+Tanki Divide no-one cares.

I think so
yeah but the s7 and s8 ones engine are the same as the 2009 stock but the s7,8 stock ones are slower
Not really lol, just wait for their ATO upgrade :)
