What's the Picc doing at Kensington High Street?? Also it wold have been nice to see the Picc stop at West Kensington and the other district line stations if it's going to run on the DL tracks..
Relaxing as well. Been all over London many times through work and always said I would love to sit up front and see what the driver does. Excellent videos especially the part over ground lines.
Fascinating! Many thanks….especially for taking us into the depot! Excellent videography too…I’ve seen other videos of the Northern Lone but this one made my me fully appreciate the incredible engineering and the infrastructure behind this railway. I come from a SR 3rd rail background so it was interesting to see the extra complications of the fourth rail. Even though this video was obviously made during off peak times it’s surprising just how busy the Northern Line is. I’ve subscribed and look forward to many more of the same. Northfields used to be just a busy stretch if the North Circular Road (best avoided!) …but not any more., best wishes and thanks again, Rob in Bournemouth, Dorset.
Ex-Stagecoach London Routemaster RML 2748 seen on the left of the Richmond branch of the District Line west of Turnham Green station at 17:32. It was then used as a playbus back then but it looked very sorry for itself with its engine removed and all four of its tyres let down. It is now used as a welcome bus at the Liquid Leisure Water Park near Windsor.
This is a rare jem! 💎 '73 stock at platform 4 HSK. (you can see it's reflection in the mirrors at Earl's Court). Excellent footage of the approach to ECT, with all the usual sticks On🚦and the empty move into Northfield's Depot. 👍
Had an unscheduled visit to Northfields depot one cold winters morning when we reversed there with a D Stock having been diverted down the pic as the points were frozen (failed heater?). Was still a shiney new station guard back then... missed making a brew at Ealing Broadway because of it 😳 luckily that day I was running with an ex pic motorman who was road trained and knew all the moves in Northfields.
Love the view through the triangle Sidings area - unusual to see the Pic run through there though, didn't realise the 73s were allowed that way at all.
Route filming train. I was the last person to do this now the points have been pulled out and the traction current has been increased. On the day we were to reverse at West Ken but no so to HSK we went . I wanted to do Tower Hill or Edgeware road as 73s were cleared to there.
Great cab view, bet some passengers at the stations were a bit confused! First video i've seen ending in the depot! One query; why are there 4 tracks between Acton Town and Northfields?
District line used to run all the way to Hounslow West which was an above ground station before the extension to Heathrow. For at least one weekend the Piccadilly line ran to Ealing Broadway, that caused some very confused looks from passengers who did not believe what the staff were telling them!
Without a doubt a 1973 Piccadilly Line train not in service, you can see it on the platform mirror at Earl’s Court, it only stopped at stations to clear the signals + Northfields is a Piccadilly Line depot.
I didn’t know Piccadilly line went to High Street Kensington? Never-mind it’s on the district line tracks which it’s allowed to go on. My question is why were you on it and were you doing passenger service?
Shed leads provide traction current in the shed roads, the idea is the leads can “ follow” the train as it is moved from the unpowered shed road back onto the current rails. Usually sets booked for service would be left with the front unit parked back on the juice and a shed lead left in the rear. Woe betide the driver who forgets to check if there is still a lead in the receptical box on the rear unit and drags it out of the roof as he “pulls up” ready to leave the depot
Hey, great shot... But there's something confusing me. Pause at 0:56, that switch is getting me out of my mind. Why isn't it correctly aligned to the departing train?
I believe they are like that on purpose to accommodate their usual route and I think are called spring points and jump to the direction this train is running as the trains flange hits them
jetblast787 That's affirm... couldn't stay calm and I went reading about switches. The train overruns the "wrongly" set spring and acommodates it by its own speed. Thanks for answering!
Agustin Ge Yes spring toggle points. If you travel from South Ealing to Acton where the track goes over to the local platforms there is a set there and at Hanger Lane on the east bound
Alicia s piccadilly line toy that for me she drive the to the Abbey wood and Ama clat salt drive bakerloo line she back to the Abbey wood and her train everyone can see any thing A underground train
Between Baron's Court and Hammersmith? I see a train coming out of the tunnel just before Baron's Court, but that is just the standard Piccadilly route coming out of the deep level tunnels. Originally most trains there will have started their journey at Cockfosters.
For a short period the piccadilly trains ran on the district line tracks (some problem with the district line maybe I don't know) because between earls court and acton their routes are the same. The trains would have accessed the district line platforms at earls court via points further down the line where the district and piccadilly run side by side
Even if you can't see the signal go to green because its out of shot, you can at least see the train stops go down.😁 I notice a lot of the time that the signal at the platform end is always red just up to the point when the train approaches it, then turns green. Are these signals being manually controlled?
Some signals are approached controlled, so might be that: These will automatically clear to green once the train slows to the permitted speed, provided there's no train in the section ahead.
It lets you know how much of your train is still in the platform. This is used in case an alarm handle is pulled. If within the station deal with it there if out of station stop find out what the problem is then continue to the next station and deal with it there.
The Picadilly line used to use the Local I believe if the fast lines were too busy for moves such as going into depots like this one. However, the Picadilly line can no longer use the local as apparently they have taken the points out.
The train was probably going to a different depot, or it was origionaly at a different depot to start off with, and if you didn't notice, the doors on this train never opened so it was NIS
Oh no :( That would make a great video though, I have a question seeing as you are a driver for the Pic Line, what are the possibilities that a Driver would let me put my GoPro in the cab to film the journey?
Does anyone else find these tube cab videos pleasantly satisfying ? .
What's the Picc doing at Kensington High Street??
Also it wold have been nice to see the Picc stop at West Kensington and the other district line stations if it's going to run on the DL tracks..
Yeah need more of these! If you're interested in District Line there's a good vid by Ben Elias.
Relaxing as well. Been all over London many times through work and always said I would love to sit up front and see what the driver does.
Excellent videos especially the part over ground lines.
Curious, bemused and then fascinated watching this unusual routing. Thanks for posting 😊
Very interesting, especially the trip into Northfields depot. Glad I came across this.

It's very unusual for a Piccadilly Line train to stop at the stations between Hammersmith and Acton Town!
Great film , all the way to the shed 👍🇬🇧
If you look at 28m22sec that is where the back end of the train will stop. Car 6 the rear motor car is still on power.
22:28
28:22
Magnificent there’s a cross city line that also has a station called Northfield which is similar to the Piccadilly lines station of Northfields
Which Ciry is that?
Love these videos. This old girl though sounds worse than my back at 5am in the morning.
Proper creaker. 😂❤
What is the Piccadilly doing on the surface at High Street Kensington, very interesting
Why isn't the Piccadilly making the district line stops if it's running on district line tracks??
@@scooterahlers9666 replacement services, that’s what I heard, i wish the Piccadilly lines stop at Ealing Broadway too
I am surprised at the track position between 0:54 and 0:57 seconds. No derailment!
Spring Toggle points. The train moves them as it passes.
toggle points...the train moves them
Same at 26:01 haha
Yes. I saw that as well. Never knew that was as you all say....a Spring Toggle point. Strange but I guess it works obviously.
Piccadilly Line 1973 Tube Stock
Correct me if I'm wrong, but High Street Kensington isn't on the Piccadilly line, is it?
No but can use if need be.
Piccadilly line hello I'm the metropolitan line I'll see you at Rayners lane (NOT)
Piccadaly Line hello im the district line i'll see you at Earl's Court (NOT)
High Street Kensington is on the District and Circle lines.
there is a secret Northfields train at high street Kensington it is rare to see
How are the trains powered when they enter the depot? There is no third and fourth rail above the inspection pit.
Had an unscheduled visit to Northfields depot one cold winters morning when we reversed there with a D Stock having been diverted down the pic as the points were frozen (failed heater?). Was still a shiney new station guard back then... missed making a brew at Ealing Broadway because of it 😳 luckily that day I was running with an ex pic motorman who was road trained and knew all the moves in Northfields.
decent video, just needs a few caption. ie. station names and junctions
seeing the depot at the end was an absolute treat!
Thankyou. Will try and do Cockfosters depot sometime.
Love the view through the triangle
Sidings area - unusual to see the Pic run through there though, didn't realise the 73s were allowed that way at all.

Very confused. How did the p. train start at HSK? It also stopped at every lampost between E.C and A.T. #Sunday?
Was there any reason Piccadilly line trains were diverted to HSK that day?
Yes filming.
Fool stop. Nice to see inside the Big Shed. "Grease and oil change, Sir?"
Question... What are the set of chevrons with S7 on for ? They are situated at platform ends adjacent to the driver's cab.
Stopping marks for the S Stock trains
@@projiuk Many thanks.
Thanks for posting this wonderful video. I would take the Piccadilly line from Osterley to Hammersmith during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
I've been to Northfields Depot before because my Dad drives the Piccadilly line but never actually been inside
Great cab view, bet some passengers at the stations were a bit confused! First video i've seen ending in the depot! One query; why are there 4 tracks between Acton Town and Northfields?
Ermm yes got a few strange looks. The District line used to run down there many years ago.
District line used to run all the way to Hounslow West which was an above ground station before the extension to Heathrow. For at least one weekend the Piccadilly line ran to Ealing Broadway, that caused some very confused looks from passengers who did not believe what the staff were telling them!
What's the power source of our train running through that roofed dépôt at the end there?
Last car still on power.
The Piccadilly line dos not go to high street Kensington
but it can do at the moment
but i doubt if if it will once the SSR resignalling gets going
Great camera work on this video. Makes me want to live in the UK for a while to drive tube trains.
Cheers mate. It was a Go-Pro stuck on the outside of the train.
I lived in London for two years....you might I am crazy but there is nothing better to me than the underground!
unusual stock move! why the 73 stock ended up there would have been good to know. interesting video ;)
Yeah I was wondering that. Lived in London 32 years and have never seen a deep-level tube at High Street Ken.
Piccadilly line trains will not stopping at Hight Street Kensington.
this one had to or you would have had another Moorgate
are you having a stroke
how are you going from high street ken??
How come Piccadilly Line went to High Street Kensington?
Without a doubt a 1973 Piccadilly Line train not in service, you can see it on the platform mirror at Earl’s Court, it only stopped at stations to clear the signals + Northfields is a Piccadilly Line depot.
absurlutly awesome vid realy enjoyed thank you
Is High Street Kensington to Northfields on the Piccadilly Line a once a day train service?
No route filming train just incase. But since the District went 890vdc past Barons Court sub we can't go there anymore : (
Pardon my ignorance, but on 00:57 are the points set wrongly when the train goes over them? They look as if they are in the wrong position to me.
+Sion Lewis I'm just guessing here but they look like they may be spring trailing points
awesome video, absolutely awesome.
Spring toggle points no need to be powered as only one way. Train moves them .
I didn’t know Piccadilly line went to High Street Kensington?
Never-mind it’s on the district line tracks which it’s allowed to go on.
My question is why were you on it and were you doing passenger service?
How is the train powered in the depot? No third and fourth rails.
Probably battery locos to move them around.
Back end on rear power car on juice. Or if all else fails shed leads.
Shed leads provide traction current in the shed roads, the idea is the leads can “ follow” the train as it is moved from the unpowered shed road back onto the current rails. Why did you not stop at West Kensington but did at all stations between Hammersmith and Acton Town, which the Picca usually skips?
Filming train already done West Ken the stop is to allow to add info on video.
Hey, great shot... But there's something confusing me. Pause at 0:56, that switch is getting me out of my mind. Why isn't it correctly aligned to the departing train?

Spring points
Hi Mate! Would I be able to use this video please?
Wow this is rare.
Look at the points at 0:57...should'nt they be open for the line were on ?....
It's a loose points, it can only be moved by the train (and it must be used at reduced speed), they are more frequent in trams networks
I don't get this video because first of all the Piccadilly line does not go through High Street Kensington or above Earl's Court
At Acton Town is there any sign of the platform for the South Acton shuttle?
Yes, when standing on the eastbound local platform (District) look through the grill holding up the adverts and it's visible.
What's a Piccadilly line train doing on the District line?
They share the same route for some of the way
Yes it is 17 years on the Picc and my first time to HSK
Alicia s piccadilly line toy that for me
she drive the to the Abbey wood and Ama clat salt drive bakerloo line she back to the Abbey wood and her train everyone can see any thing A underground train

Nice train ride. Where had the train come from on the underpass between Barons Court and Hammersmith?
Between Baron's Court and Hammersmith?
I see a train coming out of the tunnel just before Baron's Court, but that is just the standard Piccadilly route coming out of the deep level tunnels. Originally most trains there will have started their journey at Cockfosters.
why was it at high street kensington?
Was there some rare track upon leaving Earl's Court as the Piccadilly lines at that station are below ground?
For a short period the piccadilly trains ran on the district line tracks (some problem with the district line maybe I don't know) because between earls court and acton their routes are the same. The trains would have accessed the district line platforms at earls court via points further down the line where the district and piccadilly run side by side
Why did the train stop at 10:00 when it had a clear signal?
jetblast787 we were filming from inside the cab as well need about 5 seconds pause in each platform to add bits later on in the edit.
jetblast787 Give about 5 seconds for the filming work we were doing to add bits .
Was the train is service
please make more videos like this! Please please please
Others have said this was for filming, but what was it filming...? I presume it was in aid of Route Learning, but can you clarify?
Even if you can't see the signal go to green because its out of shot, you can at least see the train stops go down.😁
I notice a lot of the time that the signal at the platform end is always red just up to the point when the train approaches it, then turns green. Are these signals being manually controlled?
Some signals are approached controlled, so might be that: These will automatically clear to green once the train slows to the permitted speed, provided there's no train in the section ahead.
Why was this at Earl’s Court?
Why do they still stop in the station's even though they have a green signal?
Filming helps with the final edit adding things to video.
Anyone else spot what appeared to be trespassers at 2:15?
What are the signs with white numbers on a blue background(1 - 6) for on departing each station?
It lets you know how much of your train is still in the platform. This is used in case an alarm handle is pulled. If within the station deal with it there if out of station stop find out what the problem is then continue to the next station and deal with it there.
Thanks
8:59.. perfect! :)
Cool
6:57
Correct this was a filming train.
Finally we arrived at piccadilly line tracks 17:24
Love this one!~
where is this 1:42 ? Great video!
Why did it use the local track
The Picadilly line used to use the Local I believe if the fast lines were too busy for moves such as going into depots like this one. However, the Picadilly line can no longer use the local as apparently they have taken the points out.
Kensington High Street is on the District and Circle Line.
What train am I driving?
the picadilly doesnt serve high street Kensington?
Ex railway?
Even slower than the district line lol
04:15 the birds though
Funny Piccadilly on wrong line lol
high street Kensington isn't a picadlilly station it's district and circle lines
Yep true but what stock is it?
Piccadilly line for you its 1973 and for the district it's the s7 stock
Yes it was a 73 stock doing filming
ua-cam.com/video/ZvYw3XVrWro/v-deo.html what is this area used for? I have seen it on another tube video? Looked like some sidings?
High Street Kensington is not a Picadilly Line station.
What stock was it?
Where was 1:35?
Triangle sidings
The Piccadilly line does not go to High Street Kensington...
The train was probably going to a different depot, or it was origionaly at a different depot to start off with, and if you didn't notice, the doors on this train never opened so it was NIS
It was a filming train apparently
Piccadilly Line? Think u mean District Line as High Street Ken isnt on the Piccadilly and Northfields isnt on the District
I, too, was thrown by the title. It's definitely District Line.
What the HELL? that line does not go to high st kensington?
It does when we want it to ;)
Isn't that the District line???
No it isn’t, on the mirror it was a Piccadilly line train
At 27:36 at the right of the depot is that a 1992 Stock?
Yes courtesy of the test train driver. It has a 62 on the back end. Rail adhesion train
Oh right, can we expect anymore Driver POV's soon?
Will be doing whole line again. Get the Go-Pro charged up!!!!!!
The train sitting on one Boston at the moment is the Asset Measurement Train ex 72 stock. They wont let me play with it : (
Oh no :( That would make a great video though, I have a question seeing as you are a driver for the Pic Line, what are the possibilities that a Driver would let me put my GoPro in the cab to film the journey?
picadilly line does not go to Kensington high Street
Depends if you turn left after Hammersmith Filming train up to HSK and back.

why didn't you name all the stations so non Londoners don't get lost. please name station next time thankyou.
+Colin Wilkie ask me!
Pretty sure there are signs telling of you which station you're at.
This wasn't a passengers service
Why so slow?
That's a District Line yo, Piccadilly never calls at High S. K. nor Ravenscourt, Stamford Brook, and Chiswick Park.
Look in the mirror at the start of the vid its a 73 stock.
I'm aware of that, but what's with the route? Why is it stopping at stations where Piccadilly never meant to be?
We were filming a route knowledge video. The stop at the stations is to give a chance to put some other bits in the video.
And we do stop all stations Hammer to Acton when the District is in trouble (some times) :)
I see, my second though was that Piccadilly replaces the District time to time. Thank you for explaining!
😼
Loose pionts
What idiotic puerile comments some people post
It really is a complete mess
In what way ??
Boring without commentary or at least captions of station names , junctions etc
It's meant to be a POV- you don't drive trains and see captions etc scrolling!
