And Isabella, my heart goes out to you for those bites! Not at all fun. I went camping once in Norther Wisconsin and the flies were so nasty the bites were like welts and took weeks to clear up. Praying that yours heal quickly.

Hello. I am an avid outdoorsman and Canadian ex-army: To limit mosquito, horsefly, etc attraction to you while in nature, you must limit any stimuli. Do not wear any makeup even lipstick can attract. Wash only with an unscented soap (Ivory or Dove). Make sure not to use hairspray or scented shampoo.. Also a product that is a very good deterrent is Avon's Skin So Soft.. or a product with DEET. Just a few suggestions. Hope you continue have a great time in Canada! Happy Travels!

Try to get a spray containing DEET. This is a bit "oily" but it does quite a good job against mosquitos and those horse flys (Bremsen in German?). For our trips to Asia and Tansania we took Nobite (a spray you get in Germany) with us. Sure something similar exists in Canada.
